Great video and photos! 1:26 The “something” is a mode you have to set in fuji called the dr400 mode. It internally under exposes your file, while boosting the shadows and mids. Basically what many folks do in lightroom if they purposely underexpose to preserve highlight detail. Works in Raw too! ❤ Couple that with an adjustable highlight curve, you can control how you roll off of highlights. This, in Canon cameras, is called “highlight priority mode”. Think of a wedding photo: exposed for the bridezilla’s face, the white wedding dress clips. With Fuji’s dr400 mode, or Canon’s highlight priority mode, the shot internally I. Camera is under exposed, and the blacks and mids are boosted. You look in the back of your camera, looks like a normal photo. Load it on your Mac, the OS sees a dark image. Load it into lightroom, the Exif data sets up the file correctly and it looks like a normal exposure. Look at the white wedding dress, it looks blown out! 😮 No wait, bring down the highlight control or go to curves and round out the highlights. Look at all of that detail. Even take the exposure dial and bring it down 3-5 stops, you can see the sky and the clouds that looked blown out white when exposure was set to normal! Nothing is free: what the drawback? Your blacks get a little grainier. Denoising blacks is WAY easier then clipped highlights! Experiment and find out!
Love the video, I’m right there with you on your impression of the camera, too. I’ve had an X100S, F, and now the V. And before them all years of shooting high-end Nikons to get the perfect picture. It’s amazing how now we’re asking technology to get the perfect old-school film look again. I personally love it, really like your Instagram page. Curious to know what the recipe is that you’ve landed on to get a consistent look in your Instagram. It’s really gorgeous. Thanks again for the video, well done.
own a X100s and it's a great camera; recently been eyeing the X100V and it's still hard to obtain; heard elsewhere that Fuji may announce a successor next month; would love to get an updated version; great idea for creating your own mist filter ... good video.
That’s one aspect I forgot to mention! People are absolutely less intimidated by it and have a much easier time posing for it. It’s not a huge, intimidating camera in your face. 👍
I have the x100v. It is great but there is one flaw. Instead of going back and forth with which lens to use for my Olympus, fuji has one lens but I am always stressing about which film simulation to use. It’s so weird. Sometimes I go back to Olympus and I love the freedom for clear photos without any filters.
I have definitely had a hard time with that. BUT… I feel like it allows you to experiment with different color palette until you find your “style”. Style is more than just an instantly recognizable color palette though. It’s about content, environment, subjects, framing and all sorts of other aspects. It’s ok to use different recipes for different environments/occasions. Here’s what I do. Shoot in jpg AND raw. Then I import both images into lightroom and play around with the raw file then I compare them to see which one I like best. If I like the raw file better, then I might try to mimic it with a recipe in camera.
@@OverlandExposures one feature I loved about the x100v is the sooc images. I really didn’t want to edit photos after taking them. I am still coming to terms with the recipes. Just haven’t found one I love all the time.
Fuji's resale value and lack of actual camera production is why I'm saving up for a Leica. I mean, if I'm gonna get resale "r@ped" then it will be by a manufacturer who is worth it thank you.
Have you actually tried any other Fuji camera? Apart from the fixed lens just about all of them have the ability to cook a recipe. It's nothing special to the X100V. It's easier to buy a pound of Unicorn poo than it is to buy a new X100V, all because of hype...
Appreciate the in depth and high quality review dude! Hope you enjoyed your time out here 🤘
I did! We love it out there. One of our favorite places to visit. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I’ve been loving the “Eddie’s point and shoot” recipe lately.

Thanks so much! Yeah! I can’t wait to hear what the successor will be like!
Awesome man!! looks like a great camera
Really loving it so far!
My silver x100v is my heart and soul ❤️. Always gets a smile and a compliment wherever I take it. People are always anxious to pose.

sweet camera brother.
Thanks duuuuu
What kind of filter do you use? Great review and I love this camera!
I described the filter in the video 👍
Wow. A feature all Fuji cameras have, not just the x100v 😂

Yeah, fair point. I just got extremely lucky finding it locally for basically retail.

I have shot Fuji in the past and they were great too. I think it’s the classic neg hype and better optics that sent this one over the top. 👍
