- This video shows an in-depth look into the PLR Hemi ProCharger combo we built for the Dragzine.com BlownZO6 Corvette. Follow along from our engine dyno to the race track as we continue to make great progress with this combination!
Feel good video for me. In the60s and 70s I worked in performance development at Chrysler and heard a lot of my lab days from you. Funny we used 671 or 871. Lots of us drove hot rods to work.
After 30 years of saving, I MIGHT be able to buy a proline short block.
they're that high
are rhese guy's more expensive than Fulton, or sonnys,
@@anthonyjennings8108 they are totally different beasts... Sonnys specialty is n/a... Proline is boost. But yes proline is double the cost of the others after you add all the induction and electronics... And more than double the hp too
@Paul Wilson proline prices around that bad when u think about it. 80k for 5300hp isnt bad
@@xkobeplayz5396 agreed, in the long run its cheaper than constantly blowing up nitrous engines. I have had slight problem with the bottle so I don't judge.
Kudos to Allen Johnson Engineering for this sweet piece.
as a crewmen for 15 years from top sportsman to ProMod i can promise that you don't need to spend 120k for a bullet to compete.; especially in an 1/8 world...2500 hp is obtainable in many ways these days. the big HP #s are nice to brag on but it really comes down to the converter and application/tuning/longevity .. you can go 4.0 @ 185..or 4.0 @ 200..we do a small alky turbo motor ,450+ ci , that goes 196 mph in the 3's, for 1/3 the cost... just look at what Chuck can do with his small engine on the StreetOutlaw show.
Seems like in rvw you do
@Paul Wilson doesn't matter how much horse power your motor makes if it doesn't get through everything to lay the power down properly
@Paul Wilson evidently you can't comprehend a comment that has nothing to do with how their motors run lmao. everyone knows they're at the moment probably the best in the business but that has nothing to do with what i said or the comment i replied to but since you keep up with so much what do you race?
brianmathew09 thanks Brian I just ran across you reply. It's using the right tool for the job that day at the track!! In other words using your head instead of your pocket book, the laptop is a powerful tool now!!!!!
Steve Morris came out with a water jacketed 481X that is nick named the SMX this year that Tom Bailey took out for a test drive during 2019 Drag Week and he ran a Drag Week best of a 5.86 @ 253mph and to me that's an accomplishment all in itself because Tom Bailey ran that on the last day of Drag Week so after going over 1000 miles and going 6s at 5 different tracks during the week he ran his PB and set a Drag Week record I'm not trying to take anything away from Proline but there is engine builders putting together engines that are just as capable if not more capable of making the same amount or more HP than a Proline built Hemi for less money but I do like the fact that Proline will sell you the whole package from the engine to the ECU to the turbos to go with it all for close to $100k
I will always be the biggest fan of big roots and especially screw blowers coming out of the hood but I must say that the performance of prochargers and where it is now, I plan on seeing less it wasn't bad because of how badass prochargers have become and all the different gearing options, etc. where you can definitely put out a massive amount of air! These things are going to be dominating everything and are already starting to, so even with my preferential bias roots and screw blowers, these Pro Chargers are EFFING-BAD-ASS!
I like how you use BME rods virtually exclusively. I've been running Bill's rods since I started building your routine 500" Iron block mopar stroker. I've gone 6 YEARS on a set of rods once without changing the bearings! LOL The one thing I've found, I've had TERRIBLE luck in that combination retorquing rods. EVERY time I've done that I've kicked the rods out in short order. I suspect it's because the rods are so big and the space is so small given the low pan rail you can't get a stretch gauge in there. I'll keep using bills stuff unless I learn a secret, I'll use em once and hang em on the wall or give em to kids at the track. GREAT vid! Your stuff is WAY too expensive for me but it's clearly awesome! I'm starting another 500 stroker motor with a blower now. It'll be my very first forced induction build.
Bill Miller has an AMAZING hand in lots of stuff, hel lm he helps the b only own fuel bikes, too. Guy is BRILLIANT and talk about badass rods, geezus.. 😁🤘🏻
I remember helping alcohol funny car team once that was just getting started and they were changing rod bearings and treating in the bottom in like it was a fuel car... well the rods a d the rod caps in the bolts weren't all cold like they would be with the fuel car, they were interchanging hot and cold parts and they wondered why they snapping rod bolts, etc. LoL.. I'll leave the details out on which parts they were mixing up but I'm sure you can figure it out since the rods were staying in the car 😂
Very interesting to watch this 3 year old video in hindsight knowing how far the Proline Hemi/Procharger program has progressed. Would be interesting to see a current video as to what specific things lead to the current dominance of this platform.
see you can buy all these part from somewhere off there shelf so i know its the people that come to the track and set these cars up for the rich people that buy them its not really a special motor its the people that work for proline that need all the credit
Great video you guys. Love what you're doing with the company Eric and all the guys working together as a well-oiled machine. Your quality shows.
Centrifugal supercharger driven off the front of the crankshaft. Engine design has now gone full-circle. Look at Allison V1710's and Rolls-Royce Merlins from WW2. Same general elements of technology, but with 70 years of evolution behind it. Beautiful pieces of mechanical engineering art.
FANtastic work guys! Magnificent!!
i work at BARE in the 1990, you guys are Killing it
I love cars and I love animals. I just just as emotional...just as misty...when I see an animal being rescued on "The Dodo" as I do when I see these beautiful engines do their thing.
Fun to look at'em anyway. My poor little ole 327 with Flowmasters is about all I can afford these days. 😆
brazil representando!!!!!!!!
Thank you guys for keeping it real!!! 100% it’s so nice to see real dyno numbers!! Hearing people claim 5000 hp makes people loose sight of reality. This film was EXTREMELY WELL DONE!!!
We see a lot of billet parts these days, but some of these are particularly nice.
The timing cover. The camshaft. The block deck surface.
Certain details about this engine are also especially slick.
The air plenum is easy to appreciate. Sometimes the metal will warp when you machine the crap out of it like that.
The angle from the supercharger to the plenum is the shortest I've ever seen.
The fact that it's a methanol engine and doesn't need an intercooler is also awesome.
I ain't got a clue what your saying but I like it.
I think you guys sandbagged that engine but in drag racing it’s all good 🙌😂
ProLine is in Ball Ground, GA????
Never knew Ball Ground had such a high calibre engine builder. I live real close.
Bet I know some of these guys by association.
This was beautiful . I'm a fan now .
Thanks for the video. Lots of great info. I was surprised by a few of the parts choices, especially the wet sump.
Kevin Carter same.
Kevin Carter but obviously they know what works and what doesn't, I guess that's why we're watching.
This was beautiful I am a fan now.
Awesome set up , got to have one see yah soon.
The dude with the red hat is that the guy that wanted to fight chief a few seasons back lol
now he builds his motors! 🤣
Would love to purchase one and take it out the back door. No one would touch you if the streets knew you were running this thing
isso é um sonho de motor e tambem montar cada parte de um motor desse é mais q um Sonho... muito top a proline... renan Brazil
You could test the flow rate of the charger in a windtunnel. Or just run it a tad richer incrementaly above 40 mph. Im sure its possible to calculate the ram effect though
Hurting FEELINGS in red hats
💪🏼😎 making drag racing great again!!!! It don’t matter if you like or dislike ProLine Racing🤣 EVERYONE RESPECTS THEM they are a freaking juggernaut!!!! Step to a side they are coming through😲
0-200 in 3 second.. Insane.
"We're gonna' make a couple "light" pulls, around 65 hundred rpm" !!! My Scat Pack redlines at 6k. That engine is just SICK! Gobs and gobs of horsepower!
APBA open offshore racing classes must be interested in this set up ?
2250 hp as a baseline measurement hahahahaha thats a number people dream about hitting
Damn, I could fit my leg in that throttle body
My D won't fit
#fueltech Brasil na gringa! Parabéns
I UNDERSTAND ALL THAT BUT, EVENTUALLY HOW BIG DO YOU GUYS WANT YOUR INDUCER TO BE ON THE CHARGER....I MEAN WHAT IT GONNA TAKE....THE PROCHARGER BEING ACTUALLY BIGGER THEN THE ENGINE....
???.....CRAZINESS
Damn every word come out of his 👄 is 💰 💰 this 💰 that crazy power this motor makes but don't forget 💰 just saying
I'd like to see a comparison on the AJPE and Brad Anderson engines.
Wind tunnel dyno is the way forward..!😐😐😐🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀😎
Are ya’ gonna be able to run a top fueler with a ProCharger? That would be trick!
if i drop 100k can i get a 4k hp engine `?
Badass motor!!!
So if it makes 3010 horsepower with a big a** blower what will it make with 2 giant turbos hanging off of it 4000+?
I believe it made ~5200 in the Alepa Corvette.
Superchargers dominate Pro Mod. Maybe it would make more with turbo's maybe not. But supercharger cars win the most.
Wish I knew what these cars are doing in a 1/4 mile
What are the engine (capacity) specs please?
Can you guys at pro line racing make a hemi under 500 cubic inches
I heard these motors are more expensive than a Fulton
That was sweet..
so tell me, why should i use a pro charger compared to twin 101s ?
Carbz 60’ time
Run both. At the same time
Most racing bodies give a pretty substantial weight break for the Procharged combo vs TT BB 98mm+. Procharged combo will out 60’ the TT combo all day long and isWAY easier to tune.
And what about Roots blown and screw blown deal
how many of you guys think it won't be long before they will run a bigger pipe than today's 5 inch intake pipe .. ?
Some run 6 at the moment
How much hemi would a 526 hemi make with a f3r-136 procharger
Yea proline is def top notch. But with fuel tech backing the programming with timing and fuel to air curves and all that goes with dyno. You wont take a 4000 hp cAr and outrun one these guys have properly tuned with 3200
This is what is currently happening
Why haven't ues the gm 637ci BBC that had 5.125 bore for your aluminum block
Hello, what is that square thing sticking out the top of the intake?
It's a burst plate. If the boost surges past the plate rating, the plate will blow and save the engine from too much boost.
It's long like that so it can reach the top of the cowl on the cars hood.
@@XITroll13 thank you.
Those valves are fucking huge 🤣
we need a motor to go with that turbo. The turbo is bigger than the motor. HOLY
there isn't a turbo in the whole video!
Edward Thayer lmfao!!
@@RustyWells2 lol, some guys leave me speechless!🤣😂🤷♂️
And BIG CHIEF’s still smokes them!!!
Like who? Chief is a ass hat clown.
#DADNUMBER1CARDYDAVEHAS U SEE HIS NEW CAR OOOOOWWWEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!
Horse power takes $$$$$$ and time.
Courtney Shoemaker and more $$$$$$$.
@@TheMattc999 stop druling and get back to work to make that money!! Do work ol son!
Courtney Shoemaker actually I am currently doing work. Just waiting on the lathe to get done with this last pass 👍
@@TheMattc999 👌keep our passion alive!!!
Mike Murillo just spank all the cars with Pro Line engines in them on street outlaws no PREP, with his FORD block / Ford wedge heads...
Such a great video to watch and enjoy..... and then it was all ruined by running 1/8 mile instead of 1/4. DRAG RACING IS 1/4 MILE
Are these engines water cooled.
No
Ok yes im stupid so what's the difference between a procharger an a turbo help a brother out I really don't no
A procharger is a centrifugal supercharger that's run by a belt or off the crankshaft by a gear drive. While a turbo is run off the exiting exhaust.
I thought Steve Perry owned proline racing???
Steve Petty?
How much does this setup cost ?
More than you can afford pal, Ferrari.
@@gman2478 I’ll fucken buy two and you guaranteed
1.093 sec. 60’ is not the good. Apparently doesn’t help much at lower RPM’s.
is that 100% alcohol?
nitro methane or methanol, prob methanol the other shit is for the funny cars
Aaahhh what the hell " put one in a 1971 sport fury ....
Try to change the sound of your spark not the amount of power, j it st the kh not the kv. A little know secrete
i want this in my truck
QuadracerDays it can be done but you gonna need a lot of upgrades to accomplish it.
WHAT IT IS GARAGE same. In my Ford ranger🤣
well i know pro line builds bad ass motors but anyone can do that with money but its the people doing the tune and setting up the chassis right b4 the race and you cant really teach that you have to experience lots of races at different tracks and conditions
maybe I can afford a used one ....
481x hehe
ProCharger just lost Daddy Dave to turbo's strictly due to packaging constraints.
Not really. He couldn't make 3 passes without exploding the Procharger and he got tired of it. Turbos are a lot more reliable and don't stress the engine nearly as much as blowers.
@@wvXvxvXvw 😂🤣😂🤣😂how the fuck did you make that up!!!!! I sure hope you don't believe that!!!!!
A roots blower is better and cheaper than a Pro-Charger by far that why you don’t see top fuel using them cause there not as efficient, if they were the best blowers top fuel would be using them think about it, they used the best parts they can get and they use 14-71 roots blowers *( there not allowed to run 16-71’s anymore since they shortened the quarter and changed the rules for safety I think we’ll see the return of the 16-71 and the full 1/4 once the safety equipment catch’s up with the speeds the cars can achieve in a full quarter top fuel cars are hitting 330mph in 1000ft a 1/4 mile is 1320ft imagine how much faster they could go in that extra 330ft they would be getting up close to 400mph which current safety gear can’t withstand but there working on it )* running a big block out past 6500rpm is risky throw a rod or god knows what some ppl are running these out to 9600rpm and have there limiter set at 10600rpm on a BB there crazy
Yea so lets choose the most expensive the most Maintenance intense combo that requires the most people so we can have a school bus of crew behind our two 18 wheelers at each event Yea just what I love keeping it simple ... ... You guys really make me laugh .....
That hemi ain't got nothing on the WORLD RECORD HOLDING PLR481X
Not yet.
It will
How many PLR481’s are running on top fuel??? Yep, none.
The HEMI is new to the twin turbo world and still under development. Eventually it will do what it does everywhere it's been ALLOWED to compete without massive restrictions and that is dominate.
Besides, if one has ever looked at a 481X, it has a cross-bolted Y block just like a HEMI, shaft rockers, relocated distributor and spread intake ports. NOTHING like a 'chevy' in any respect. Not the valve angles, plug location, chamber design...........nothing.
@Dave Micolichek Countless simpletons.
Why in the hell would u use Mopar tech in a damn Chevy or Ford body style truly disrespectful to mopars
Numbers are all that matter
that other stuff is for oem builds
To trigger spethal folk like you
To make a mopar look better. Look at street outlaws. They all switching over from a wedge design to a hemi.
It’s not mopar tech buddy. The hemi was around way before Chrysler and I believe ford used it even before Chrysler.
@@zethloveless7238 No not true. Chrysler pioneered production Hemi's and these are clearly in that lineage. Chrysler built Hemi aircraft engines during the later part of WWII. Peugeot was probably the first to explore the benefits back in the 1920's on small displacement race engines...
The BIGGEST mistake I made was using a ProCharger. The company had no clew how to make it work on an LS3 in a Tri-Five. all the pulleys were wrong and misaligned. ProCharger rewrote their manuals at my expense. Never again BUYER BEWARE
The music really sucks. 👌👌
