    Caught a 163 lb. Homer Halibut Derby winning fish at the end of August, wish I could post a picture of it!

    Fished homer 2 hrs ago and caught great halibut. Biggest was 115lbs. But was told there was no lingcod because of low or no fish to be caught. Will be planning another trip but need a charter than has the option for both halibut, lingcod and maybe yellow eye or another rockfish species

    When we arrived in homer several years back we picked a fishing charter that was great but said we would not be allowed to catch lingcod only halibut, black rockfish and salmon. Was great but missed the lingcod fishing!

    wow - your captain knows his stuff and put you on it. Did you ship them home from Soldotna?

      We took them on the airplane with us in 50 pound boxes. Checked as luggage.

      yeah. overnight FedEx was $450 this year for a #46 box to a friend AZ plus the price of the box. I've done it both ways, checking it is less expensive but has its own struggles plus air lines can lose the boxes.

    I'm guessing you must have the wrong month when you said June 18. Just want to let folks know ling cod doesn't open until July 1st in Alaska.

    How do you know who caught what fish?

    • @midwestlifestyles851
      @midwestlifestyles851  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They notch the tail with a knife. Example, theres 3 groups of 4 on the boat. group 1 would get 1 notch, group 2 would get 2, etc. very accurate and efficient.

    My wife and I are going with Gabe, in July! How was the sea sickness? Did you take any for it? Thanks! Kick A$$ video...

      Gabe is awesome! You’ll definitely have fun and catch fish. We had some rough sea’s all day. Some of our crew took Dramamine pills which seemed to help them. I had a little sickness on the ride back in, but it got better!

      @@monster87024 everyone on the boat caught their limit. I’m sure poundage was close to at least 50 per person. We checked the box of frozen fish as an extra bag on our flight, and that was a super smooth process. Much cheaper option than overnighting fish in the mail. Pay the extra checked bag fee and you’re good to go.

    If all these fish videos are real, Alaska better Stop IT quick or there won't be any fish. Homer was a great small fishing place in 1997 I loved going there from Wasillia on weekends or taking the camper there and and staying on my friend,s beach watching bear's in the morning digging clams.. what a place. Better Stop these people coming there to exploit the fish Crab ect. Alaska doesn't need the money 💰 just put a small limit on the tourist!!!
