I'm decent at budgeting and absolutely hate owing money on anything so I always pay anything quickly. But everyone I talk to says to get one. I know that it goes against what is said often on this channel from what I have seen. Looking for advice on if there is any reason to get one and make small purchases on it or should I just stay where I am and keep savings for things?
@@RealCryo Nothing wrong with having or getting a credit card. You sound like you would be the type that pay off your balance in full every month. The die happy philosophy is so funny. Do people think they’ll be dying happy at a young age, desperately clinging to life, because they ate that cheeseburger 25 years ago. Go for a walk, see the world, meet people, treat your body well, and then die happy.
You can have both! It's very possible to have an early and still painful death. Diabetes, stroke, heart disease and other conditions can make your rest of the life a living hell.
As someone that works in safety, it's fantastic that she has a passion for safety but the way she was so casual about the drinking and driving is wildly concerning lol
You can have a sweet treat. Just put it in your food budget (calories and money) and make it yourself. Don’t have to be all or nothing. And don’t make it your whole diet.
As soon as u get a job starting investing for your retirement! Live below your means! We bought homes and vehicles and we always were on low side. Did she really say that her and her motorcycle friends go to breweries and drink but it doesn't affect her because she's not driving? If you're riding a motorcycle with a driver thats been drinking, it definitely affects you.
She's riding on a drunk driven motorcycle. That's worse. Putting your own life on to another drunk person and say it doesn't matter cause I am not driving
I thought the exact same thing. Then, she tried to cover and say that they all go there and drink ONE drink and then just sit there and hang out. Sure, Jan! One drink, my ass!
I couldn't imagine having someone her size on the back of my bike in the first place and it not affecting my ability to ride let alone if I add alcohol to the mix.
Just FYI for you all, when people eat, drink, smoke to excess and then say "at least I'll die happy," they are horribly wrong. There are worse things than death, and these habits make you more likely to experience them. Vascular disease, diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, organ failure, cancer, emphysema, joint issues, early onset arthritis, all can afflict your for decades. Having a stroke at 65 and being completely debilitated for the next 15 years isnt "dying happy."
Yes! Also I really believe that inflammation in your body affects how you feel and your mental health. Your brain and your body are connected 100% of the time.
I used to say things like that. Im 26 and quit smoking last year when my wife and I decided to have a child. My dad died at 65 after smoki g his whole life. Had cancer but essentially suffocated to death in his sleep and his quality of life for the last 10 years was aweful. I had to say goodbye to him while he laid braindead in the hospital bed. Its not worth it.
Ummmmm as a yeahhhhh I am NOT happy when I gain weight. It severely irritates me non stop sensorily. I’m so jealous of these happy fat people with zero sensory issues??? Their skin doesn’t bother them??
Yeah, having to be catered by everyone around me, covered in sores and in pain constantly and unable to even breathe at night without assistance isn't my idea of "dying happy."
Thanks to Caleb and how he ridicule these irresponsible people, I have stopped eating out, went down from $1000 in food to $200, no credit card debt, 3 months saving and paying off my car this year ❤
I'm hanging on to my one-bedroom as long as I can before I need an extra room for my young child bc the rent is just a touch over 600 and ALL utilities are included in that. Where tf am I gonna find that?! I don't want to let it go...
I find it amazing that everyone on this show who is drowning in debt knows that “closing your credit accounts lowers your credit score” but somehow missed the lesson about paying off your cards! 🤯🤯🤯
My diabetic husband had that same attitude on sweet treats. I watched him struggle through 12 years of dialysis then suffer terrible pain as he lost circulation in is leg resulting in gangrene and the loss of that leg. After 2 months in the hospital he died in his sleep 4 days after getting home. You do not need that sweet treat and it will probably not result in you dying happy.
As a retired hospital dietitian I can tell you that eating poorly is not a guarantee to die young and happy. Try living twenty, thirty or more years with diabetes and heart disease. Try living on social security when 80% of your income goes to meds and medical expenses.
More people need to hear this. I'm sick of smokers, alcoholics, and fast food eaters saying, "We all die anyway." K. I don't want to spend my time before dying being sick and miserable.
@@The_FreedomZone With medical science today and all the drugs, people can live a very long time with serious, chronic illness, but they can't live the way they would like to live. One of the best ways to prepare financially is to stay healthy. My husband and I are in our 70's, married for 50 years and still active, only taking one medicine each. Stuff still happens, I had cancer. But you don't need to add on a bunch of preventable stuff.
I highly doubt she is making a detailed dollar-in-dollar-out budget every month and then just ignoring it. She likely doesn’t write it down and certainly doesn’t follow it.
I budget this way. My monthlies are constantly changing, setting any limits doesn't make any sense. My goal is always just to spend as little as possible, So setting arbitrary limits doesn't really work
@@frankvonfrauner right, I'm not one to get very detailed. I just calculate my needs every month then decide how to invest, save, and spend with the rest.
As much as I’d love to be on financial audit to speak about debt and personal management , the risk of a jacked up thumbnail of myself poses more of an embarrassment than any of my finances
Apparently the guests approve it… but they are paid so maybe they don’t mind as much with money in their face. But you would still be “Irresponsible Person has NUCLEAR Finances and hits on me” with a Taliban plane flying behind you
She should look into Risk Management. It's kind of a catch all Safety career: - emergency planning; - safe workplace practices; - HR policies; - managing insurance programs; Plus a lot more duties depending on the risk managers position and industry. And it pays well!
Yes she clearly hasn’t actually looked into the field. I’m a safety consultant with an education and make a great salary but don’t just watch cameras like she kept talking about 🤦🏼♀️

Trucking guy here! Safety jobs can be well into six figures. If done properly, safety can not only keep us all safe but protect a company from hundreds of thousands in cargo claims! Critical position in mid to large sized carriers. Also, driver manager is a great, lucrative position as well. Typically start at $60k and can make $85-$90k if you’re willing to grind. Stick with it!
Absolutely! In fact, I was getting a little annoyed with Caleb in the beginning because he kept interrupting her as she's trying to explain. Plus he's deriding the job as unnecessary because "Isn't that something they can do themselves? " Just please let the guests explain their jobs! Let them get comfortable with some easy questions about their day-to-day lives and then you can go in with your interrogation regarding finances.
Glad to see the "what do you want credit for?" question being talked through thoroughly and explained as dumbed down as possible. Saw a comment about it on a recent video and I agreed. The guests didn't seem to fully understand the question the way it was phase previously :D Great Video
I can not take credit (pun intended) for it, but I did ask a few videos ago that exact thing. Personally from not knowing this concept from my side of the world. But it sounded like the guests did not understand the question, and then screaming will not help
The way he explained it this time was so much better than any recent episode. The “not taking advantage of it, it’s taking advantage of you” sound bite is fine AFTER he actually explains it to the guest and viewers.
Yeah, i basically said this when my mom suggests I get a credit card to build up a credit score. I paid for my house with cash, and my used car with cash. I went to community college so the basic fafsa loans were just enough to cover it and you dont need a credit score for that. I have no use for credit unless i want to buy a new car (i don't, my car is old enough to drink and it does just fine) or take out a loan for a second house? It has seemingly no use that i can see.
Girl, I feel you, I used to be in the same place as you, with little treats (both in terms of food, as well as other pretty objects) making me happy. I can't highlight enough how beneficial therapy was for me. Without it I wouldn't have been able to cut down my overspending, because it allowed me to seek happiness in other activities.
I’m not even three minutes in and it never ceases to amaze me that not a single person can say how many hours they work a week when they are asked without 1) getting it wrong the first time or 2) giving some random ass story
Yes lol for most people that have set hours, like how do you not know? Especially getting a paycheck tells you! I've been working per diem for 2 years so I truly don't have an accurate average, range from 26 per paycheck to 40 😅
She owes $15k on credit cards. An addiction to spending that much money on wants over needs is akin to how a drug dealer is looking for their next fix over getting clean
I think at that point she was kind of tired of being yelled at and was being difficult on purpose because I refuse to believe someone could be that daft
I can't believe she's only 23. If she keeps up her eating habits and tells everyone that there's nothing wrong with those habits, she's going to have massive medical issues by the time she's 30.
@@1983BoyBenny going bald that early as a women can also be a sign of PCOS. high amounts of women with PCOS are also insulin resistant. it's kind of a chicken/egg situation whether the bad diet causes PCOS or if it makes it easier to be less healthy WITH a bad diet than people without it. but it absolutely does make it worse. i hope she has an obgyn who cares about her.
The people that say at least I’ll die happy really have never been not fat. I’ve lost the weight and become way more healthy and I just feel better I could never go back to being obese
Same, especially after ending up in the hospital the day after my birthday 2yrs ago. Don't know exactly what happened. All I know, is I went to sleep, and I woke up 3-4 days later in the hospital. Ended up being extremely high blood sugar. "I'm happy" after eating whatever/whenever, turned into the complete opposite REAL quick. It makes you feel like you ultimately let everyone around you down, embarrassed because you're in a hospital bed and can't even get up to go to the restroom, having someone else wipe you, etc. I have a "cheat" meal once a week, but it's almost instant regret. I really never want to get fat/unhealthy like that again
I felt bad for her. She seems like a sweet but very naive young girl that just needs to learn. Unfortunately if parents treat their kids too much growing up they think it’s normal and continue to treat themselves as adults. It takes a while to realize how to adult.
@@JasonGroom I think there's a disconnect that "credit" is the core of it all. We "use" credit, we accumulate access to it via the score, our debt is "credit", etc. I know I never thought of the overlap in the terms because I see "credit" as a positive and debt (as in "I owe x") as a negative so I didn't think of the fact both the room and the usage of the room and the ability to get the room all boils down to credit.
Maybe the way to ask it better is something like this: “Your debt has already destroyed your credit score. You basically have no credit anyway. How is that supposed to help you any time soon?”
I thought he phrased it pretty well. He gave examples of what credit people can take advantage of. When he gave options she could use credit for she realized oh none, I don't have any plans for those at the moment.
Oh they're driving motorcycles? When she mentioned "bikes" my innocent European brain genuinely thought of cycling and even doing that under influence is dangerous, but driving a motorcycle under influence is something else 😭
Love the rephrasing of the "what are we taking advantage of credit for today"! Excellent way to re-ask and explain whyyyy we're asking and whyyyy we shouldn't care about our credit score right this moment. We have bigger problems than a low credit score right now
I really like your new thumbnails. The reactions still illicit curiosity and interest, but they're not as goofy and a bit offputting as the past thumbnails. This one is sleek but evocative; I love it! The lighting here is better than the one where the lighting is directly on top of your head cause it made it look more sinister
I have to say I am a fan of the new thumbnails. I understand the brain-rot crazy colors and imagery are supposed to catch attention. But these are much classier and the quality reflects the production value of the actual show. Also I can relate to and was very inspired by what you said about your struggles with eating habits, Caleb. I went from having an active job to working from home and have gained 20-30 pounds the past 2 years. With the weight of my unhealthy lifestyle making life more and more of a struggle (pun intended, physically and mentally), I am being forced to face my lack of discipline and poor relationship with food. It's that or become a black hole, as you joked. It's so much easier said than done, but you're not alone in this struggle. You can do it 💪💪💪
Yeah! That was the part where it was obvious this whole discussion made no impact on her. She's going to get her frogs, eat her sweet treats and go to conventions instead of making any positive change.
I’m pretty successful just figuring it out. But I also have ADHD and fail about 6 times and then succeed in the space of time it takes most people to try once.
Just a heads up, speaking from my small pool of experience, the OSHA 10 certification is pretty much the bare minimum standard OSHA certification, everyone in the construction field has it (I’m an architect and I have it) and it doesn’t really set you apart from everyone else, OSHA 30 would really be something that would set an individual apart from others

I wonder if people understand what a credit card really is. Like, it isn’t YOUR money, you are borrowing money from a company that charges you extra money if you don’t pay it back right away.
Debt counter in corner is perfect touch caleb! Nice! would like to see it hang out a bit longer or even stick around during the whole show to really drive the point home to the audience.
Yay, Thank you Caleb for asking the question 'what credit are you trying to take advantage of?' in a different way! It's so refreshing to see the concept explained to this guest so that she actually understands. Please keep doing this
Why? Not everyone has dumb friends. I have 2 friends my age who can’t afford to move out/live alone. One friend made more than I did and lived at home and still couldn’t afford things. That didn’t rub off on me?
What I don’t understand is how these young people get credit cards with so high of a line of credit. While I make almost 90k and my capital one card is only 3600 they won’t even let me get into debt.
I have a ridiculous amount of credit. I don’t abuse it and will be out of debt by the end of summer. House paid off etc. I’m still amazed at the amount of credit I have and they keep sending me pre approved card applications. There is no way I could pay off the balances if I maxed them out with the amount of credit I have ( $90,000!) it’s nuts. I don’t question for a minute how irresponsible people get under water. I always love when Caleb hollers “ STOP, YOU ARE NOT A CREDIT CARD PERSON!”
Your approach is so necessary. I’ve tried to help so many of my friends “the nice way”, and they just do not get it. I think your channel is awesome, and much needed. This should seriously be a class in school.
21:00 I don’t blame her at all for that answer, because I am the same way. And it makes total sense. Some people don’t want anything out of life besides being happy. I don’t have any major goals for the next five years, just work, pay rent, have food and my pets. As long as I am happy.
So as a truck driver myself, her describing a job in the safety department is why I dislike the safety department. Making up work to justify their employment and then just watching drivers actually working in order to harass them
I've seen a company lose a 3 million dollar contract because they ignored a ton of regulations and received a stop work order before they could meet their product delivery deadline. It sucks if your company has a EHS person riding you but wont give you the time to work compliantly and won't spend on maintenence, but severe safety violations can result in fines or stop work orders that financially impact everyone at the company.
I specifically came to the comment section to say that I am appalled that she (with no business or practical sense) is in safety. I haaaaate safety people like this.
Thank you for bringing the debt counter back!!!!! And the sound effect!!!! I typically have these playing while I work and the sound effect is my cue to check what the total debt is.
I think she was talking about getting rid of the subscription car wash. Which also, wtf. Wash your car when it’s dirty. Doing normal (non-wet Texas) driving, like, 1x a month?? If she was driving Uber for her work or something then at least it would make sense, otherwise it’s just wasting water.
The convention question almost destroyed me. “I guess I’ll just have my friends go eat without me” and “Too bad I can’t get a refund.” Holy shit, if your friends don’t understand making sacrifices for financial stability, the are 1) shitty and 2) ENABLING YOUR BEHAVIOR.
@@amn1088this comment is so true. The older I get the more I realize the people I considered friends just want to take advantage of you and/or use you as a benchmark to tell themselves how awesome they are
I'm always so impressed by your empathy and kindness. I think it helps the WHAT ARE YOU DOING sink in a bit better. You're such a good dude, I appreciate you. And shoutout to our girl having the courage to get ripped apart for the entertainment of others. But also... I'm pretty decent with finances, but I learn so much and it prompts me to look more closely and think about how I spend and budget.
Great episode! My spending was so similar to hers just a few months ago, excluding the credit card debt. Finally realised that the "sweet treats" I kept getting (plants, thrift store finds, driving to work instead of public transport etc) was TERRIBLE for my future finances, as I wasn't saving or investing any of it. Trying to break the habit of "just a little treat" is so incredibly hard, but I've started listing ALL of my expenses and going through them weekly, just to make my own accountability more visible to myself. This show has definitely been a great help. Thank you!
I’m right there with you and I know it’s job related( nurse). It also doesn’t help that my husband was diagnosed with severe glaucoma. He hasn’t worked in 6 yrs so the burden is all on me along with his multiple eye surgeries.
Hope you're doing well! Citrus fruits are known to be mood boosters, helping with stress, anxiety and tension. It also curbs cravings You should try adding to your diet.
Same here. In addition to fighting it, once the pattern is known, it's worth considering phasing the stress out of your life. Grad school is temporary, but watch what career you get into.
I'm in the same boat! I lost extra weight 2 years ago and was the lowest weight in my adult years, but between work stress and getting into a new relationship I gained about 30 lbs in a year and was unexpectedly diagnosed with a chronic condition and the weight gain could have attributed to it. Practicing self control to eat more wholesome can be hard, but I take daily walks now which is good for my body and my mind!
She seems smart and like she was growing in understanding as the episode went on. It was enlightening and she was receptive to it. Treat culture is rampant, and easy to succumb to when you are young and don't make much money. I think this experience will be a turning point in her life, and she deserves to be happy and financially secure
So happy to see the if you make the minimum payment this is how hard you’re gonna get screwed section. An extra $70 saves all them years and interest. When you make a payment, pay the interest and the payment.
I got myself out of that habit in a counterintuitive way. I used to be a “treat yo self” gal after a rough day at work, like a candy bar or Starbies. Then I noticed how it was adding up in $ and calories. So I changed to buying a $1 lotto on those days. Or as I think of it, a ticket to the daydream of what I would do with the money if I won. Except walking to the store to get the lotto was further than getting Starbies or candy from the vending machine so I maybe spend $3 or less a month on the lottery, which is less than 1 Starbies drink.
Consumerism at it's finest. I recently almost bought some sunnies with a 40% off coupon, and had to stop myself cause I dont need them. And in our fast paced world, the spark of that "ooo I want a drink" usually isn't snuffed out. I even have trouble cause I wanna snag a flavored tea but remember my water is fine enough
I'm not sure that cutting up her credit cards will help her. She has to change her behavior;. She's still go to a brewery with her friends. Then what? Bum a drink off her friends? Borrow money from them? Maybe she needs to carry a SMALL allotted amount of cash to limit impulse spending.
I am glad that this channel exists. Ive been watching for months. I can't help but feel bad for the situations people get into. Whether by choice or not, they need someone such as yourself that is willing to point out their faults and rewire their excuses. Keep changing people's lives man, they may not like hearing it in the moment but it is what they need.
I do very similar work to her, I make 61k salary + productivity bonuses in my first year with no degree or experience. She can definitely make more than 70k as an EHS Manager. She should look into EHS consulting, you end up learning a lot of regs and looking at a lot of different facilities. Fun to have someone with a similar job to me on the show! A lot of consultants end up being government regulators and inspectors, you can get really good benefits. Something else to look into.
I'm in safety as well and make 95k/year. I have a bachelors degree in safety so that has helped, but there is definitely decent money. It's definitely not for the faint of heart though!

Absolutely
I used to say things like that. Im 26 and quit smoking last year when my wife and I decided to have a child. My dad died at 65 after smoki g his whole life. Had cancer but essentially suffocated to death in his sleep and his quality of life for the last 10 years was aweful. I had to say goodbye to him while he laid braindead in the hospital bed. Its not worth it.

My only thought is renting a new place. If you’re moving into a new apartment they’re going to check your credit score

Same here. In addition to fighting it, once the pattern is known, it's worth considering phasing the stress out of your life. Grad school is temporary, but watch what career you get into.
I’m the opposite, low appetite/can’t eat for hours when i’m stressed and depressed. Everyone is fighting their own battle
She doesn't get sweet treats sometimes, she gets them ALL THE TIME.
I am loving the return of the original audit style
She seems smart and like she was growing in understanding as the episode went on. It was enlightening and she was receptive to it. Treat culture is rampant, and easy to succumb to when you are young and don't make much money. I think this experience will be a turning point in her life, and she deserves to be happy and financially secure
So happy to see the if you make the minimum payment this is how hard you’re gonna get screwed section. An extra $70 saves all them years and interest.
When you make a payment, pay the interest and the payment.
asking to budget in conventions when your budget is literally net negative is actually WILD
“Let’s go on a ride!”
“Go on a ride?”
That part got me 😂
The most American thing I’ve heard is “I deserve a sweet treat after a day of work”
After sitting all day and getting fat as hell. How do you get so fat at 23 years old? Sitting all day and eating garbage.
😂
I got myself out of that habit in a counterintuitive way. I used to be a “treat yo self” gal after a rough day at work, like a candy bar or Starbies. Then I noticed how it was adding up in $ and calories. So I changed to buying a $1 lotto on those days. Or as I think of it, a ticket to the daydream of what I would do with the money if I won. Except walking to the store to get the lotto was further than getting Starbies or candy from the vending machine so I maybe spend $3 or less a month on the lottery, which is less than 1 Starbies drink.
That’s what costco is for! 😅
Nah it’s more like “ I’m going to put myself in credit card debt for multiple sweet treats throughout the day”
yeah not sure where the "treat" culture came from. Everyone justifies stupid spending as "oooh its just a treat, i need treats to keep me happy".
Pavlov is laughing at us somewhere.
Infantilizing of society. It’s like how you’d give children a “special treat” for doing something good

internet culture
Consumerism at it's finest. I recently almost bought some sunnies with a 40% off coupon, and had to stop myself cause I dont need them. And in our fast paced world, the spark of that "ooo I want a drink" usually isn't snuffed out. I even have trouble cause I wanna snag a flavored tea but remember my water is fine enough
LISTEN!!!! Whether you close that account or don’t pay off your debt, it affects your credit score the same wayyy!!!!
Right off the bat she has a straight forward answer about what she does and knows how much she makes. I have high hopes 🤞
I'm not sure that cutting up her credit cards will help her. She has to change her behavior;. She's still go to a brewery with her friends. Then what? Bum a drink off her friends? Borrow money from them? Maybe she needs to carry a SMALL allotted amount of cash to limit impulse spending.
@@lynnw7155 Last I checked you don’t HAVE to order anything when you’re joining people at a brewery.
@@dnmitch True, but, does she strike you as a person with good impulse control?
@@fredfinger7092 Her fault for not being able to stand peer pressure or FOMO.
How did you feel at the end of the episode? :P
The lighting 🎉🎉🎉🎉 thank you it feels way more warm and welcoming
I am glad that this channel exists. Ive been watching for months. I can't help but feel bad for the situations people get into. Whether by choice or not, they need someone such as yourself that is willing to point out their faults and rewire their excuses. Keep changing people's lives man, they may not like hearing it in the moment but it is what they need.
Sweets Freak: try looking at government jobs or private sector engineering/construction firms. They always have a safety/health compliance section.
I wonder if her love of safety stems from a sense of recklessness in other aspects of her life
Insurance pools. I’m a loss control consultant for a risk pool and talk about safety all day long
I'm guessing there would be some kind of education required.
@@michaelmurphy6687 or experience, but yeah most likely.
"I got that mass" is my new catch phrase. 🤣
haha

I do very similar work to her, I make 61k salary + productivity bonuses in my first year with no degree or experience. She can definitely make more than 70k as an EHS Manager. She should look into EHS consulting, you end up learning a lot of regs and looking at a lot of different facilities. Fun to have someone with a similar job to me on the show! A lot of consultants end up being government regulators and inspectors, you can get really good benefits. Something else to look into.
how did you land into your position? i’m interested i think
I'm in safety as well and make 95k/year. I have a bachelors degree in safety so that has helped, but there is definitely decent money. It's definitely not for the faint of heart though!
Big props to her cutting up her cards! Her attitude is waaay more pleasant than most
