But the narrative is total bullshit. My five year old niece could groom this cat. I wanna see how to do a cat that refuses to cooperate like my Kayla. Not the most chill cat in the fucking universe.
Good advice. Ty 😃 Raggies WILL knot and mat if not brushed regularly. Their little tongues are not enough to groom their massive, beautiful coats. Take care of your fur babies! They will love you more 😻💜🌹😻💜🌹😻💜🌹😻
My cats fur is ALOT more thicker and harder to get rid off. It’s literally impossible to remove by comb or hand and on top of that my cat hates it when we touch them, not even 2 people can hold him still.
I tend to use thinning sheers made for pets on the fluffball that's my dog. He likes being brushed but it has to be fast, so the sheers make it faster without removing too much hair (and so I avoid having "holes" in his coat).
♥️ I'm a little envious ! 😊 My cat doesn't get mats, but I wish he enjoyed being brushed like this one seems to ! I do speak kindly/gently to mine, praising him throughout. I I even tried a couple of treats yesterday, but that seemed to backfire. It interrupted the usual routine, and he seemed especially irritated, more so than usual. But thank you for showing us how your beautiful, sweet kitty likes it. Even when dematting ! 💕😊
My part Maine Coon cat has some mats on the fur just above his back legs below his butt on both sides. He won't let me brush them out, he's not nearly as calm as your kitty, but I'll try untangling with my hands. Thanks for the video!
Groetjes Carolien.
I'm watching my friends cat and I got the mats off his back end, but he's got some smaller ones near his face I don't think he's going to let me try this. It is amazing to watch your kitty let you pose him.
Thanks for the video, I have a cat who doesn’t like being brushed much and had gotten a few mats. I was worried I’d have to cut them out, but with careful brushing with a fine tooth comb I got them out.. it took a long time but I’m glad they didn’t have to be cut
My cat will absolutely not let me brush him, he’s an indoor/outdoor cat. I’ve had him since he was a kitten and I’ve always brushed him, but he likes to bite and push his claws into my hand whenever I try to brush him, he’s a mainecoon mix and had a thick coat as of right now due to the winter. His chest is super matted, any tips? I’ve considered taking him to a groomer.
My cat gets mats right underneath her butt area. I don't know how to fix it because she never allows me to brush around her butt. What do I do to prevent hair tangles? It's tangled really badly right now, how do I fix it? Thanks!
@@ashlynm.6714 Same here, unless you run the brush/comb by his cheeks or chin, to kind of scratch it, but everywhere else is a no go. He even makes trimming his nails a difficult task.
Helpful video. Just a comment. Different cats have different types of fur. Some have dry, easily tangled fur in which mats are harder to detangle. Other cats have more slippery fur, where this kind of detangling is easier. Don't feel bad if this doesn't work on your cat.
My cat is thankfully calm like this. He got a bit annoyed with me as the Matt's were clise to his skin. I had to cut them out. But on the whole he was quite co operative
My cat HATES getting brushed so whenever i do brush him I can only brush him on his back for 1 minute (actually he would only allow 10 seconds of brushing and then he would start meowing) and then he would run off
My daughter’s Scottish would not allow this and what’s more I’ve tried doing it with conditioner and it still won’t comb out. Her fur is very fine and gets matted in a matter of a few days under her legs and belly area.I am going to try cutting them with scissoring them off a bit at a time from the ends until they’re small enough to shave out but I have no experience with this. I’m going to use safety scissors of course but idk how she’s going to tolerate that. It’s so annoying that my daughter doesn’t brush her.
Thanks my cat gets them really bad in his armpits and above his but under his tail he was no liking me trying to brush them so I thought I might have to shave them never thought of just detangling them by Hand thanks 🙏
If it is really bad, it is better to go to a professional groomer. They can do it painlessly. Then you can also get information on how to shave if the knots have become too big to remove by hand.
My cat will only tolerate been touched like this not combed when he is asleep. He is long haired 17years old with many health problems that are helped by him wearing a stress jacket and coat in the Winter. This however has made the knotting problem worse. I am awaiting a de-knotting manual tool but he is so matted he seems to prefer a shaver. It is difficult to know what to do for the best as severe knots cannot be untangled by hand. Many thanks for how to tackle the smaller ones though.
Most of the time, cats don't accept combing and brushing because it hurts, especially with larger knots and matting. I recommend a professional groomer, they can shave your cat's knots painlessly.
@@BowieTheRagdollCat Hello, Thank you so much for kind advice. As my cat has life threatening car seizures, I am waiting for the vet, groomer to visit him. Meanwhile, doing what I can a bit at a time. I think I have done all I can. He even allows me to apply eye drops so I do not understand his resent objection to grooming and taking his coat off. I got another bit of the knot off today after applying coconut oil, but he wet himself. I rang the vet this morning for advice as I am worried the remaining knots are hurting him. Awaiting vet reply as not considered an emergency.

@@BowieTheRagdollCat Thank you for the prompt response. I think he's failing...been going outside the litter box and walks around "screaming" most of the day. Thank you for your helpful vids.
Olive oil applied to the mat’s roots every day. Kitty will hate you for doing it but will keep licking it off and on until it falls off, even the biggest mats. Sure be shaving or cutting. my cat is about to lose a huge mat and I just started today.
I have trouble with my boy too. He's a sweet cat but grooming is not easy with him. He currently has a few nasty mats I can't get out with his brush or even shaving. Calling my vet to handle it because he's currently bald on part of his back from me shaving some of the spots off. Going to ask their recommendations for brushes, etc because clearly I'm not doing enough for him and it's hurting me.
Oh I do wish Ozzy would sit and let us de-mat him. He'll let us brush him while he's drinking from the bath tap, but that's as much as he'll take😂 we have to get the vet to de-mat him when needed. Which isn't very often thank goodness. Was lovely to see Bowie enjoying his groom xx
My cat won't sit still then scratches if I try to persist anyway :/ she needs an anaesthetic from the vet to get hers done. Wish there was an easier way, she's not a placid ragdoll
My cat is not accepting of this and it hurts her. She has one major one and she freaks out when I touch it and idk if i can pull it apart with my fingers. I feel bad for her but I have to like pin her down to even get to it
@@BowieTheRagdollCat thank you! A little after I made this comment I tried pulling it apart and was shocked how easy it was! I gave her some whipped cream to lick up off the table and she let me work on it haha. Thank you for the video!
My rag doll never gets matted fur but my himalayans fur is a nightmare. He hates his tummy brushed and that's exactly where he gets matted. If only it was as easy as it looks here to get them out.
Ugh I wish my Maine coon still enjoyed being brushed, he liked it when he was a kitten and then all of a sudden he couldn’t stand it! I have to do very short brush sessions with him. Once or twice a week should be sufficient, preferably with a pet steel comb. Bowie likes the brush very much, but it is not very efficient. If your cat's fur still tangles a lot, there may be something else going on. Then you better go to the vet or a professional groomer.
