lever blow gun for your air compressor. Here is one that might work: amzn.to/3z9RAR3 OR amzn.to/3xdvhtb

It’s not the head. It’s the timing cover gasket. The timing cover has coolant running through it. Replace the gasket and you should be solid. I own a 88 Z24 cavalier with a 2.8l V6. That’s the 3.4 sfi same set up on that. So timing cover.
Interesting! Thanks for the info. I will have to take another closer look at it.
Yup
Dude, thank you so much for saying what it actually is. Geez. I went through 8 videos, only found 1 for my 04 Monte Carlo, yet to no avail. Appreciate you for stepping in🙏🏾
It was still impossible to see the exact leak location, but it removed a lot of items from the list.
I'm about to pull this this car apart. My assumption was timing cover leak and this comment reassures me
Interesting Mark! Hopefully it is NOT the head!! I think you're safe that it is not, but keep us posted!
It is a gamble for sure. And it is me working on it as well, so it’s a gamble TIMES TWO! Lol! Not doing a video but will keep all posted. (I have to get this thing fixed or scrapped)
@@unclemarksdiyauto It's ALWAYS a gamble when we get cars, LOL!!! But I will bet money I think you're safe!!!
Nice
Well was it the head
It’s the timing chain cover. I’ve done many of these. Easy job to get done.
Had an 03 Oldsmobile with this same exact engine, 217,000 miles, but it had an intake manifold leak and a head gasket issue, used some green fiber stop leak in both coolant and oil, was able to put over another 50,000 before it just wouldn’t compress any longer and she was too far gone. One of the best vehicles I ever had.
They were pretty good engines but had intake gasket issues. This one I ended up putting head gaskets and intake gaskets and a water pump and it is still going strong. Too bad the body is rotting off of it.
@unclemarksdiyauto Yes, same here. Put the jack the car come with right through the floor and under backseat 🤣 Could definitely tell it had been driven in the Midwest since it were bought.
Yep, rust eventually gets them all!
sometimes the simplest things go over our heads. Man why did it have to be instilled in our mind that you need to “seal” to pressurize when all you need is a little pressure to expose the leak and sealing isn’t necessarily necessary. Haha, man thanks for posting this 👍
Thanks! I was not sure this was going to be of much help. Hope to hear from you again!
First pulleys I ever seen on the side of the block no radiator or cooling fans? No weep hole to let that pressure out? And with nothing but water coming out that should be coolant yes use all the pressure to get it out. You don’t wanna wait till the problems happen like the dealerships like. I’m just a diy far from a mechanic but Dust, moisture on sensors and connectors is what I think causes most problems. But my diagnosis is this engine was installed sideways lol
Front wheel drive, so engine is sitting sideways. There is a weep hole on the water pump. Looks like the leak is part of the timing chain cover. (GM car, weird stuff)
Dude what a smart idea . I was driving last night (99 Sentra GXE B14) & I smelled coolant & my engine was overheating fast. I parked it & opened the hood to hear a loud hissing. Also from under the intake manifold coolant leaking onto the exhaust causing it to burn & create steam. Shit looked like my car was smoking. I jus ran her home since I wasn’t too far & left her to park. I don’t know if I wanna tear the motor apart to fix the issue or just get a new motor altogether.
I tore this one apart, did head gaskets etc, but must have had a warped or cracked head so leak continued. (No shops near us to test either) This stuff worked for about 6 months. Here is the video on it: th-cam.com/video/yhFQiejnwDA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks. Just got a sudden major leak underneath my intake plenum on a worthless van I wanted to keep going just because it bugs my coworkers that I still drive it. I can't see it but maybe with this idea I'll get a better feel if it's worth the effort.
Hope you figure out the leak!
Copper seal
Copper seal it it will be fine
Change your intake manifold gasket and if there's any pits in the metal on either side just get it as smooth as you can and run copper seal with a new gas gasket
@@unclemarksdiyauto it was the intake plenum heater hose, about 6 inches long but what a pain to change (install) without removing plenum
What did you use to push air through and discover the leak? Any links? Just trying to find my own tricky little leak this second.
I have a 20 gallon air compressor. (Used for running air tools and pumping up tires.
What's that tool with which you're pressurising the system? Do you have a purchase link? Thanks
Its a lever blow gun for your air compressor. Here is one that might work: amzn.to/3z9RAR3 OR amzn.to/3xdvhtb
Thats the coolant passage that goes THROUGH the timing cover. had the SAME leak and a fucker sold me on intake manifold gasket job. change the timing cover gasket, much easier job
Good to know! Will have to look into it as car still kicking around! Thanks, Dereck.
On the motor is one anti freeze thing(idk how it’s called) and it might leak from there.if is that it’s 10/20$ fix
Like a frost plug? Used some type of stop leak product, (I don’t recommend those kinda fixes) The car is kind of a junker anyways, so added some. It did help for a while. Car used very rarely, so not sure how it is doing now as it is not mine.
Another quick genius hack 👍
Your too kind!
Thanks...
I got a leak but I still can't find it. Where can I get one of those that u are using
That end Hooked to the compressor hose is probably 40 years old. Harbour freight in the USA, or Princess auto in Canada. Any tool store.
I have a similar leak thanks
It was not apparent when it was torn down what was leaking.
Timing chain cover gasket
Possibly. Coolant pouring out of there? Then they have even more issues. No coolant in oil or vise versa.
So replacing the head gasket fixed the leak?
Actually no! Must have had a warped head which owners did not want to pay to test. (No one close to us does it anyways)
What engine is this? Was this the one that you put the head on the GM motor
Chev Impala 3400 V6. Yep, I did head gaskets on it.
What year?? Is this duramax??
Not a Duramax. Chev Impala 3500 V6.
I might have same problem how can I contact u
When did you subscribe? Usually will offer help to my subs. Which engine?
Was it the head ?
They did not want to have heads checked as no one close by. (Closest 2 hrs away)
the water pump is what it looks like
Normally I would agree, but on these the water pump is faraway from this spot on these engines. Close to the rad, and where most cars would have their alternator. (Not situated in the middle of the engine as most.)
Timing cover. The water pump is on the right side of the cover.
Did kind out what it was????
What part you change
We did head & intake gaskets. Problem still there. Friend didn't want to have heads looked at for warping. So possible they are warpped.
@@unclemarksdiyauto did u have coolant in motor
@@MrDonny27 Yes, but as you saw, it wanted to leak. Not my car, so I don't know if they ever ran it out and over heated it.
Brilliant
Maybe, maybe not. It’s an idea if the leak is external.
Great!
Hope it helped you!
How much PSI setting?
I am not sure what I was pumping into it. I was using a variable air tool I would suggest not doing much. Sorry I can’t give exact pressure. I just did it enough to have it leak. I knew roughly where it was leaking already.
@@unclemarksdiyauto ok, that will work. One old fellow said look on the cap which tell how much psi it holding.
@@timjones6637 Usually are then not around 15 psi?
I think my town car is leaking from same place
Shops have a sniffer that would tell if its leaking there!
Could be the water pump
Normally you would be right! I’m this case the water pump is on your top right on the screen, the big pulley that I leaned the hose on. Weird design, and the water pump had just been replaced!
wow thanks for sharing that never ever thought of doing that now i feel like the stupidest man on earth 😂damn it first thing tomorrow outstanding sir thank you
You a NOT stupid. If anything, I am stupid for not thinking of this idea earlier! All the best, Steven.
3100&3400 timing cover leak looks to be
I did repair this, Velez. I ended up doing head gaskets on this 3400. (The caution here is have heads looked at for warping first)
How should it cost ..head gasket?
Not sure what a shop will charge. Parts & labour maybe $2500? Depends on the vehicle. Gert some quotes from a few shops.
For me $500 to get a headgasket replaced in pa.
@@MichaelRitchie-yl6jq V6 car?
@@unclemarksdiyauto yes v6 2001
@@MichaelRitchie-yl6jq By the time it is head gasket time, it is also timing belt or chain and guides time, and water pump. While it’s apart, it’s a good idea to do the thermostat and new coolant. If a shop does not suggest these things as well, it could mean some expensive issues later. I just did a 4 cyl and parts alone were over $800 CAD. Then we can add some labour to that…
did you find where it was coming from
Do you have the exact same vehicle with same leak?
@@unclemarksdiyauto Nope. Just an eager viewer
Long story short, friends with a little bit of cash to burn, said do head & intake gaskets but not spending money on checking heads for warp etc. Did all that and exactly the same leak! Not obvious when it was apart other than bad intake gaskets. They were ok, but said try one last thing. Here is that video. th-cam.com/video/yhFQiejnwDA/w-d-xo.html So far no leaks, and they have been driving it. Only a matter of time, but they are happy!
It's a water pump leak....not a head😂
I would normally agree. In this case, the water pump is no where near the leak. Water pump is the pulley closest to the radiator. (You see it in the video) Also, water pump just replaced. Thanks for your input.
All right where's the fix video?
Each different engine will have a different fix. What are you driving that is leaking?
@@unclemarksdiyautoI’m driving a t4 transporter 2.5 engine and having the same problem, only i’m 4 hours from home and been advised to stop and fill my coolant tank every 15mins cus can’t see where the leak is coming from without getting to a garage. any advice 😭
@@charlottehubble1426 Not off hand. It must be a bad leak. You may have already ruined the engine. (Depending on if it has overheated) Probably not safe to drive it another 4 hours. Not a fix, but maybe you could use a stop leak type of product to slow down the leak?
wouldn’t blowing in it work the same? pause
Maybe if you can blow enough pressure. Car can make 15 PSI... not sure what the human body can produce.
Water pump
You would think. Actually, water pump closer to the rad, where most cars have the alternator.
Thanks for the upload
Your welcome. It is one idea that might work!
@@unclemarksdiyauto Already used it. 😂😂👍🏾👍🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
@@UrHusbandsBih So this trick worked? Can you see what’s leaking?
