- Former Liberal deputy prime minister John Manley doubts the major spending geared at a millennial and Gen Z audience in the 2024 Federal Budget will be enough to keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in power once election time rolls around.
“I subscribe to what I call the Seinfeld theory of political longevity,” John Manley told West Block host Mercedes Stephenson.
“Seinfeld, great show, lasted nine seasons. And if you think in terms of modern political history in Canada, think back to Brian Mulroney: nine seasons, Jean Chretien: 10 seasons, Stephen Harper: nine seasons,” he said, referencing the years they spent in power.

- took regular recession which should have lasted a couple of years, tops, and turned it into a decade-long Depression
- was more opposed to resisting Hitler than even Neville Chamberlain
- refused to update Canada’s navy, even when he knew a war was coming (cost Allies 72,000 lives and almost 15 million tons of freight in the failed Battle of the Atlantic)
- tried his best to discourage voluntary enlistment in WW2
- when shocked at turnout of volunteers, tried to redirect them to Commonwealth Air Training Program, basically a glorified welfare program which he could then tout as his war contribution
- enacted a form of war communism through food rationing
- even when the most common reason for refusal of volunteers to the military was malnutrition, refused to stop it
- did everything possible to prevent people from growing their own vegetable gardens in cities, even forbidding or discouraging sales of garden tools and seeds to urban areas, despite Victory Gardens being a huge success in WW1 here and in Britain and the USA
- refused to enforce even limited conscription for domestic military personnel when 1st Canadian Army was exhausted for his own political purposes, leading to the glacial advance at the Battle of the Scheldt, causing tens of thousands of Dutch civilians to starve to death and thousands of Canadian casualties due to lack of manpower
- and let’s not forget, he forced Japanese-Canadians into concentration camps on exclusively racial grounds
- had the gall to rake in all the glory after somehow by some fluke we won the war, despite total political failure
Trudeau might be really bad, but he doesn’t have almost 100,000 needless deaths to his count.
Trudeau shouldn't have made it past the pilot episode, let alone get 9 seasons.
People are ready for him to leave NOW!

Do not overestimate the intelligence of a large portion of Canadian voters. My neighbours still think that he is god even while they complain about inflation and the carbon tax.
Unfortunately, there’s a sizeable number of completely out of touch Liberals out there who fervently believe that Trudeau is a messiah, and Poilievre is a blood-drinking demon.
Trudeau has something for everybody to hate now. Everywhere you go no matter who you are, you’ll probably find something you don’t like caused by this government.

Trudeau needs to stand up and speak to Canadians. Housing, healthcare, gas prices, and grocery prices are at an all-time crisis point. The bandaid approach is not sticking because we can not catch up, and the starting line keeps moving.
This requires engaged and transparent leadership. It's not okay that the government has become so powerless to all of these issues, and corporations have taken over. This is a huge part of why Canadians have lost faith in the government. Not to mention environment and global issues. Trudeau MUST roll up his sleeves and work on making Canada a leader for progressive and proactive change.

Voters keep a leader long enough to forget why they kicked the last guy out, with a list of new grievances. The Liberals survived both Trump and Covid, which is saying quite a lot. But the list of new grievances is long and we’ve all forgotten the previous ones now.

Trudeau’s show should have been canceled many seasons ago. At this point it’s a horrible reality show that we are being forced to endure.
Other parties need to give us something to vote for if they want a change. Seinfeld is still a great show today.

I doubt that. The Prime Minister is not done yet. His work is not finished. People seem to forget that there have been three general elections since 2015. We are coming up to 8 1/2-years in office at the end of April 2024. Canada is in a critical juncture in regards to its future and to disrupt that work in progress, with a new Prime Minister (ie. the leader of the opposition or someone else) does not seem plausible. Question: How many Prime Minister's have successfully lead this country out of a "world wide", global pandemic, since it began? Answer: Zero.
