The last game i attended with my dad. I went away to college. He passed a couple of years later. I can watch this game over and over, knowing we were there.
The Astros needed this win--and a Rockies' loss--to force a tie for the first NL Wild Card. The Cubs were in the race into the final days, and were only eliminated the day before. Houston did their part, rallying from 6-0 down to win. After the win, the Astros headed for the clubhouse, hoping the Giants would win in Denver and force a one-game playoff at Coors Field. The Rockies didn't listen, and 30 minutes after the Astros' win, they beat the Giants, 10-9 and make the playoffs in just their third year.
The last few yrs left with WGN as a Superstation status with the ushering in of The WB. And close to the end of the Superstation in general. During this time we would turn to WGN for WB programming as WVTV was still Super 18 and didn't become a WB affiliate till 97-98 I think.
Because of the strike, the schedule got juggled to the point that we played our final 11 games at home in 1995. Stayed in the race right up to the end too. I'd also forgotten this was Thom Brennaman's last game with the Cubs and WGN.

Had there been no division realignment, the Cubs would have won the N.L East in 1995. Would they have beaten the Braves in the N.L.C.S? Who knows.
