I actually find this very useful. Watching very short videos. Break them down and repeat until you understand. Very useful. I am assuming that you are watching with french subtitles and not English.
yes 100%, always French subtitles. Also, once you can understand the whole sentence with subtitles, then start watching WITHOUT the subtitles. It will be challenging at first. But, it is how you are going to improve your listening massively.
Good point. You can't approach French on a word-for-word basis. Learning phrases in context is far better that the tedious grammar exercises from my college years.

Watching the full video by pausing when there are words that I don't know and going back and watching it again is such a strategy to learn French..!

very true, grammar exercises are sooo boring - and they don't work! conversations and stories make learning way better.
