    Hi Kim. Really enjoyed this video. Would love to hear how you approach Pinterest. I'm a member of your Patreon but love your more general chats about running a small business as I'm in my first year and it's all new! ❤

      Hey! 👋 I'm glad you enjoyed it and I can certainly make a video about how I'm finding Pinterest, or at the very least cover it in future resets. Thanks for the suggestion. 😁💚

    Great update review :)
    I had a great start to September on Etsy and then went on holiday in week 3 killing any momentum😑... Generally when I go on holiday I always increase my dispatch time to 2 to 4 weeks(longer than I'm actually away as a safety net) rather than going on holiday mode. I was nervous this time though with how Etsy has been changing the estimated dates based on how fast you previously get orders out, as you mentioned in the video. It seems however Etsy gave my customers a strange meet in the middle estimated date, not based on my usual 1 to 3 day dispatch but they didn't fully take into account the 2 to 4 weeks production time I has changed it to and so they actually increased the estimated times to about 1 to 2 weeks... better than nothing I suppose.
    I love the Christmas decorations BTW too! I've never seen embroidered clay before, it's really unique!

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh really? That's interesting. I do wish Etsy would just leave shipping alone though. The estimated times, the costs etc etc. It's one thing we can't control and they act as if it's all up to us. I wish it was! 😄

    Thanks Kim. Looove the acorn mug! I hope the next few months are calmer and less stressful for you. September for me was my third best month this year - but that means nothing as my income from Etsy has been so low. I am actually dreading the next three months as people are still looking after their pennies.

    Hi Kim: September was a desert landscape with tumbleweeds rolling by to a soundtrack by Sergio Leone. Zippo. Zilch.

    I do like the budget section. Sometimes you talk about knowing you wetr going to need to restock supplies and you planned for that. Occassionally something unexpected comes up. I would say keep the budget aspect. Some months there will be more to talk about, some months mich less, and that's ok. I look forward to your videos every week. :)

    Hi Kim. Love the acorn mug. Glad things going well for you. Etsy can be very up and down. I recently increased my dispatch times and that may be one reason for lower sales. Sadly I’ve been struggling to make a decent revenue the past few months, sales are dropping consistently year on year too 😭 I’m having to learn to market better and consider more social media which to be fair I should do anyway, I just find it draining. Anyway, all the best with your homeschooling adventures and fingers crossed for great sales this Q4! 💕 👍🏻 best wishes Heather

    September made me want to cry too. I got some items ready to launch my Etsy on October 1st. Took me hours to make my first listing look and sound nice. Then got to the photo ID part. I don't have photo ID and it's proving to be a massive pain to get it. SO! I'm just looking at it as more time to get items ready for my store...yeah.

      Your home educating will depend entirely on your kids, their needs, support and ages. I've home educated 2 teens with SEN needs with varying degrees of success. It did mean much of my attempts at business were put on the back burner. But that's in part because my kids needed more support than say another child who is capable of independent working.
      Good luck, it has been wonderful to see my kids mental health improve and their interest in learning come back.

    It strikes me (admittedly from a very outside position) that Etsy seem to be wanting to drive everyone's craft business towards the Temu/Ali-express end of the market with all focus being on low value, high quantity factoryware. Their stuff is most certainly NOT craft. It simply isn't sustainable from a handmade artist/creator's pov surely! Because profit is, at the end of the day, what puts dinner on the table! Doesn't matter how 'many' sales are made. It makes me very sad to see so many wonderful creators and lovely people trying to dance to such a macabre tune. If Etsy want to go down that route I'd honestly say stuff them, and walk. Let them see (if they even care that is) the quality they've chased away with their impossible model. Let them become just another T or Al-e. Eventually, someone will invent another "Etsy" to replace them and which embodies what Etsy once was. Just my two penn'th... :/

      @rcampbell4366 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes and no. Many handmade sellers do make a lot of sales on Etsy, but success really depends on supply and demand, branding, and sales velocity. There are many handmade items on Etsy that don't fulfill a specific need, which isn't necessarily due to competition from platforms like Temu but rather a lack of product-market fit.
      Additionally, many handmade sellers struggle with branding and optimizing their listings. Often, their keywords aren't well-researched, making it difficult for their products to be discovered. Handmade products are also frequently not designed for high production capacity or have a unique quality that justifies a high price. As a result, their sales velocity tends to be low, which means Etsy's algorithm won't prioritize pushing traffic to those shops.
      If there were to be another "Etsy" platform focused exclusively on handmade items, I think success would require a higher barrier to entry-perhaps requiring artists to present a portfolio that gets vetted by a team, similar to how Not On The High Street operates. They have a curated approach to handmade items, ensuring quality and a good market fit, which allows those products to sell well. But the majority of Etsy sellers wouldn't get approved.

      I don’t know if there’s anything like it in the UK yet, but there’s Go Imagine in the US, which I am impatiently waiting for them to expand to here in Canada-they are hand-made focussed, and seem to embody some of the wonderful vibe of what Etsy started as, on top of wanting to give back to help children in need.
      My point being that I think the fact that Etsy has fallen from grace so much (and continues to fall regularly) is encouraging other platforms to rise to the challenge of filling that old Etsy space’s ideal with their own spin, so who knows 😊 viable (and worthwhile) alternatives might not be that far off

    I found it a bit confusing when you said Etsy won, but Shopify won in terms of revenue. So are you saying it won simply in number of sales? I don’t think that’s a very valid metric to use for winning. I would think gross revenue would be the number to use for that.

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's exactly what I'm saying. 😊 I would disagree that revenue is a more valid metric though. It can be a pretty misleading metric by itself. Profit is ultimately the most important one.
      Obviously I can't share that though but I think what I do share in these videos is more than enough. 😊
