You have NO idea how helpful this was to me. I have 3 able bodied brothers who should be more than willing to cut my mom's grass . My dad passed away in 2009 . When I was a little girl...I would always ask my dad if I could help him. His answer was always "no...you're a girl . You just sit there. Well, I sat and I watched and I learned many things . What I did not know was that when I grew up, I would have to do "those things" because my mom cannot depend on her sons. So today, I had a lawnmower handle that was in the 'stuck mode'...came to your site and BAM! I Your tutorial worked. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

Did my little trick and it fired right up, grass looks great! I wish I had an answer as to why it happens, but as long as it un-sticks, who cares? Happy mowing!
We are one of the same. I always wanted to help my dad and now here I am mowing my mom's lawn who is turning 90 yrs old this year. My dad would be happy that one of his daughters stepped up and took care of his beloved lawn.

I said "WOW" !! couldn't believe it. I bungeed corede the handle, leaned the mower back and turned the blade !! Cord pulled right away !! Need more simple videos that actually work !! AMAZING !! THANK YOU !! Who ever would have thought !! ?

I can't even explain the torture you just saved me from. As a guy who is too cheap to service it and would rather take it apart without having any knowledge of what I am doing, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving me money and days of frustration and confusion.

The same thing happened to me today; ran over some debris while cutting overgrown grass, took it hard on myself for a while then I decided to flip it up with the brick at the end to look underneath it. Turned out there was rotted bungy cord rapped around the blade so I took a knife to cut that sucker off, the only stupid thing I did before finding your video was that I didn't unplug the spark plugg oops! So I tried it again, and still it was stuck. So I gave up on it for a while longer before deciding to go to TH-cam, tried other videos about it, nothing. And then your video came up and it was exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for the video brother, and for the first attempt thank god I still have my hands!

I'm pretty handy.... And the first video was seemed fairly simple ish the second video oh hell no! And a little bit more than frustrated, I went to go do something else for a moment next thing you know I hear my phone talking, and it's this video playing!! Since the time this video was recorded, I got the mower out this year to mow for the first time and it was locked up again. So I followed my own advice and got it unstuck, and yet still managed to forget to plug the spark plug wire back in. I will have an entire video showing this tomorrow featuring this same mower. Thanks buddy! Had quite a bit of grass packed/caked/dried up in there. I MADE SURE to disconnect the spark plug prior to chiseling out those chunks, but I was still scared though lol. All is well and the darn thing started right up. 🎉
Yep, cleaning under there is normal maintenance. I hose the underside of mine off every time I mow. The blade, even when sharp, is way too blunt to really hurt you. With one element of the fire triangle missing, you'd probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning than it firing. Not to mention you're really not spinning it fast enough for it to pop off. No need to be scared. Freak accidents are always a possibility, but you can't go around in life thinking an airplane will fall out of the sky and kill you. Happy mowing.
This worked for us! All the over videos said to remove the spark plug and add mystery oil to the spark plug hole. We had no tools for that... but we did this and in less than 5 minutes it worked! Thank you so much! 😊
You're welcome. I'd recommend you get the proper tools for that, just in case. But these are the types of repairs I show. Using simple tools and simple methods anyone can understand.
Wow, I really liked this video. This fixed my issue and I was able to get right back to mowing the lawn. I was going to take the lawnmower apart, you saved me a lot of work and a real headache!!! God bless you!
I can't thank you enough for this tip.I used the mower yesterday then for some reason it started reving really high.I assumed it was the governor spring.While I was trying to diagnose the fault I notice I couldn't pull the cord.The engine just didn't want to turn over.I followed your tip and to begin with it was really tight to turn over the engine.I kept on trying then it was suddenly free again.I got it to start and it ran absolutely fine.Thank you so much I thought it was seized.
The over-revving may have caused that to happen. But being that you were able to get the engine unstuck, and if it runs fine now, you should be all right. Make a concerted effort to check the oil each time before you mow, just in case it has started burning oil. All engines burn oil, worn engines burn more. Mine is very worn. On really hot days when the grass is really tall and the mower has to work hard, I can see the smoke from mine only when I stop the engine. Mine is probably due to all of the factors I've listed. Oddly, since this time it happened to mine, it hasn't gotten stuck again, where they year before this video was shot, it was also stuck. Now we both know what to do if it occurs.

I'm surprised the mower even had a problem sitting out in front of a home like that, would have figured they'd waste money on a landscaper. But either way, you got yourself a working mower thanks to my fix!

This fix worked for me. When I tried it the first time it locked up again. Then I turned the blades again and it locked up again. then I did it again and I noticed that the mower sounded like it almost started up. That made me want to try it again. Turned the blades again (forgetting to unplug spark plug, whoops) and then the mower started working again. Thank you, sir, for being a man who does what men do.
Thank you for posting this! I have a Yard-Man leaf vacuum that did this same thing. My first thought was that I should've checked the oil first before starting it but thanks to your video, I found out that it wasn't locked up.
I can practically guarantee they would have deemed your lawnmower unrepairable. You made the right move coming here, and I'm sure your lawnmower will be around for many more seasons to come.
OMG, I just borrowed my sons lawnmower and when I got home with its, the cord was stuck just like it in your video. I followed your instructions and since I didn’t have any work gloves I used a rag to spring the blades. Amazing! Such an easy fix. This 61 year old mom is feeling empowered. Thank you 👍🏻
Awesome to hear! You've got a good head on your shoulders--you used a rag which did the same thing, so you've clearly got the ingenuity to improvise. That's what I did when mine locked up, I used my ingenuity to devise this solution.

Just worked on my mower! When I saw nothing was blocking the blades, all fluids were good, and spark plug was in, I didnt know what it could be. Searched for a solution and found this video. Instant fix. Thank you!

" Every day of life is a blessing, and even the challenges serve a purpose we just can't see yet! Blessings on you and your household! You will be tickled by this, his grandma would have him start her push mower when we would go visit her every two weeks. And even if she had company she'd be out there mowing her yard with her hat on. At 95! She was a treasure!
Just bought a brand new toro and it did this while mowing. String tightened up and it cut off with white smoke. You just saved me so much time, money and saved me from a headache. Thanks man!
Mower blades scare an old lady like me so I turned the blade with a broom handle...and it worked!!! Now to get some more oil. THANK YOU more than I can say
Whatever worked for you! It's probably safer using a broom handle, but then again with the spark plug wire disconnected there's no way it will fire up and chop your hands off. Bottom line is it's fixed! Great job on that!

Thank you this video. You are the best. After turning the blade like on this video, I can pull the rope all the way; but no engine starting. I checked the oil..Oh no no more oil. I put in more oil; then pull the rope again, Kaboom engine ran without problem. Thank you this video you saved me another brand new lawnmower which will cost $300.
You are the FIRST person I've seen that said to disconnect the spark plug. Bravo! I've seen an airplane engine start while a mechanic worked on it. And he was a "mechanic". Excellent video my dude.

I’ve had my push mower for 6 years now and runs perfect. Went to pull it today and it was locked up it’s never done that. Found your vid and it worked! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video. I couldn't figure out what was going on, thought oil got in the cylinder took it all apart and got it to pull a few times then locked up. Did this trick and worked instantly.
Yup. It works just the way you said. My problem was that grass jammed the blade, so when I got under there I just had to clear the grass. I heard the motor start to labor so I shut it off and then when I tried re-starting is when the cord was stuck. Back in business. Thanks for doing this post.
great video, thank you. after replacing the shear key it would pull only half way then rope got stingy and would let me pull some more with great effort, so then after installing the blade and new blade adaptor (since old one cracked) and giving few spins of the blade it started to work perfectly.

Just had same problem. One video had me removing the gas tank becuz of the rivets. To get to the rope. I tried your method first. It worked!! It pays to get other opinions 1st. Thank you!!

Found an almost new mower in the garbage of a million dollar home. Did what you said in the video, and started right up. Glad I picked it up.
I'm surprised the mower even had a problem sitting out in front of a home like that, would have figured they'd waste money on a landscaper. But either way, you got yourself a working mower thanks to my fix!
@@jaykay18 I'm sure they had landscapers because they have a lot of grass, but they probably used it for a small piece in the back or something. Found you video and fixed it in 30 seconds.

This fix worked for me. When I tried it the first time it locked up again. Then I turned the blades again and it locked up again. then I did it again and I noticed that the mower sounded like it almost started up. That made me want to try it again. Turned the blades again (forgetting to unplug spark plug, whoops) and then the mower started working again.

Thank you for posting this! I have a Yard-Man leaf vacuum that did this same thing. My first thought was that I should've checked the oil first before starting it but thanks to your video, I found out that it wasn't locked up.

OMG, I just borrowed my sons lawnmower and when I got home with its, the cord was stuck just like it in your video. I followed your instructions and since I didn’t have any work gloves I used a rag to spring the blades. Amazing! Such an easy fix. This 61 year old mom is feeling empowered. Thank you 👍🏻
Awesome to hear! You've got a good head on your shoulders--you used a rag which did the same thing, so you've clearly got the ingenuity to improvise. That's what I did when mine locked up, I used my ingenuity to devise this solution.

You will be tickled by this, his grandma would have him start her push mower when we would go visit her every two weeks. And even if she had company she'd be out there mowing her yard with her hat on. At 95! She was a treasure!

Mower blades scare an old lady like me so I turned the blade with a broom handle...and it worked!!! Now to get some more oil. THANK YOU more than I can say
Whatever worked for you! It's probably safer using a broom handle, but then again with the spark plug wire disconnected there's no way it will fire up and chop your hands off. Bottom line is it's fixed! Great job on that!

Thank you this video. You are the best. After turning the blade like on this video, I can pull the rope all the way; but no engine starting. I checked the oil..Oh no no more oil. I put in more oil; then pull the rope again, Kaboom engine ran without problem. Thank you this video you saved me another brand new lawnmower which will cost $300.
Oil's not going to make it run. if it were out of oil, that's likely why it seized. Anyway I'm glad you got it running.
You are the FIRST person I've seen that said to disconnect the spark plug. Bravo! I've seen an airplane engine start while a mechanic worked on it. And he was a "mechanic". Excellent video my dude.

Yup. It works just the way you said. My problem was that grass jammed the blade, so when I got under there I just had to clear the grass. I heard the motor start to labor so I shut it off and then when I tried re-starting is when the cord was stuck. Back in business. Thanks for doing this post.

great video, thank you. after replacing the shear key it would pull only half way then rope got stingy and would let me pull some more with great effort, so then after installing the blade and new blade adaptor (since old one cracked) and giving few spins of the blade it started to work perfectly.
