Thanks for this - one of the solos I transcribed many years ago, even though I’m a Trumpet player myself. Of course I love Freddie’s solo, but Olivers for me is just sublime. Just love the end chorus with that fantastic, yet very simple descending line. Beautifully put together and as you say each chorus builds superbly.

So glad you enjoyed this. Yes, what a great album and iconic solo. Hey, please subscribe to the channel if you haven't yet. There is MUCH more good stuff coming. And hey, if you haven't already, please jump in to a Free 30 Day Limited access to JazzWire. I would love to work together with you in a more meaningful (and not too expensive) way. With the Free 30 Day Trial, you’ll see what we're doing behind the wall! You'll be inside in about 20 seconds, no credit card required. www.jazzwire.net/free-trial/. These videos are great, but they are a SHADOW compared to the real work and we can do together!

Check out Oliver's "Afro American Sketches." I've loved Stolen moments for 60 years. Wonderful perspective. Thanx so much. Oliver's tenor solo is perfection on this earth.

Great choice! "Blues and the Abstract Truth" - one of my favorite albums! The solos on this cut are so cool. On other albums (pieces), sometimes Oliver Nelson's solos sound like "exercises," but this solo has a lot of feeling to it. PS (Coltrane's "Equinox" is on his "Crescent" album).

This solo of his is STILL very "exercise - like" in its structure, but as you say, it hangs together well and sure don't sound unmusical.

As a drummer I have to correct you: It's the fabulous Roy Haynes on drums, not Philly Joe Jones! Once you entered the guided listening you refer to Roy Haynes correctly. However, love your giüuided listening videos!

OH MAN! What did I say? I know it Roy for sure. I guess I said Philly Joe, huh? It's hard to say "Paul Chambers" without "Philly Joe" being the next two words. Good catch. ROY!!!
