Best Punisher version IMO, Ray Stevenson nailed Garth Ennis' Punisher and although it is very over the top, it is also quite entertaining. I like what Jon Bernthal did with the character, but as far as what the Punisher truly is, this is hands down the best we've ever gotten.

I agree. The movie was sadly far from good. But he was the perfect punisher.
The problem is, they don't have the balls to make a proper punisher. It would be too violent.

I saw this in the theaters and remember actually liking it more than the Thomas Jane version at the time. Yeah it was over the top but it is The Punisher so the excess violence wasn't surprising. My favorite scene was the guys doing parkour and suddenly the one guy gets blown to shit by a rocket launcher in mid-flip. That scene made me LOL literally. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @RYMAN1321
      @RYMAN1321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The rocket scene was definitely the highlight for sure, and I did like Ray Stevenson here.
But man the violence got so ridiculous that it felt more cartoonish than anything and that actually turned me off (especially when he punches that guy’s face open with one hit, I actually cracked up laughing at that because of how overkill it was).
Not to mention Jigsaw was not a great villain either, felt like the writers tried to make him too much like Joker. They even ripped off the bandage scene (no pun intended) from the 1989 film

I've always enjoyed the hell out of Punisher: War Zone. It felt more like a comic book movie than the previous screen versions of the Punisher, had really great action scenes, gunplay and I LOVED the soundtrack (mostly because I'm just a huge metalhead in general).
From what I heard, the movie was criticized for being too comic booky and Rotten Tomatoes called it "an 80s movie made 2 decades too late". But ya know what? Not every film can be The Godfather or Star Wars, and comic book movies aren't supposed to be taken 100% seriously. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
All in all, I think Punisher: War Zone is the best representation of one of my favorite comic book characters.

Had Punisher War Zone came out in the 80s-90s it would’ve done well. Along side all the other action hero movies, with it’s over the top action.
But unfortunately for all those involved in making the movie, it also came out in 2008. Same year as Iron Man and The Dark Knight. And those 2 movies set the standards for the comic book movies, that ‘Punisher War Zone’ just did not meet.
To me it just felts so out of place when I saw the trailers. I remember my old friend tried to get me to watch it but I lost interest pretty quickly.
Also, I counted at least 3 separate times Punisher would’ve gotten his head blown off in the 1st 3min of the movie, if it wasn’t for the plot. He was suuuuoer lucky it was the cop that snuck up on him, and not some goon

Films like this are becoming a myth , it may not be a masterpiece but telling your story with a R Rating can really elevate your story and make it truly poignant , all of the best comicbook story's are the dark ones , man of Steel , The dark Knight, Joker , Logan , the boys , snyders Watchmen , the snydercut The Netflix marvel shows , daredevil, punisher , Jessica Jones ( Season 1 ) , Marvel is paying so much attention to its extended universe when in fact their are better and more unique stories to be told with r rated material

"Punisher: War Zone" is one of the most underrated and important films in the history of Cinema. An absolute masterpiece of 21st century filmmaking. Starring Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle, "Punisher: War Zone" wastes no time when it comes to giving the audience a punch of adrenaline to the face. Frank Castle enters the scene by inflitrating in a mob dinner, in which our main antagonist of the film, Billy Rusotti, played by Dominic West, is present. The rest of the film is essentially a chase between Frank Castle and Billy Rusotti (nickname "Jigsaw") and Rusotti's crew and amidst this small, however, intense adventure, both sides of the conflict make allies and enemies. Without spoiling much of the film, it's a brilliant modern take on themes of guilt, regret, depression, pain, faith, revenge, friendship, loyalty and family. Frank Castle is a broken man still trying to find a way to deal with the demons born out of his family's death, however, he's now at a chapter in his life where he wishes to leave this life of "punishing" behind and find some form of peace. His personal troubles illustrate some issues that are particular to his line of work and his choices in life. One of the most brilliantly accomplished triumphs of this cinematic masterpiece are the action scenes. The action is absolutely stunning, rivaling that of works like The Raid. It's a two-hour ride of anxiety, much in the vein of other brilliant cinematic accomplishements like the Crank duology (two other masterpieces of Cinema history) which is this work's goal: to make us feel like Frank Castle. An often overlooked part of films are their accompanying soundtracks and this film sure has the gut-punching soundtrack. To summarize, it's an absolute must-watch brilliantly accomplished masterpiece of Drama, Action, Crime and Noir.

Jigsaw was horrible. They could have done much better with him. He's such a major villain in the comics but they made him too hokey. His brother was even worse. Like a bad joke that just makes you cringe. There was too much cheesey bullshit peppered in. The whole thing with the FBI agent and his family could have been left out altogether. The action and gore was great. Ray Stevenson was perfect as the Punisher. This could have been an awesome serious dark action movie but it fell short.

I always felt that way. Hokey is the right term. He was more menacing before he became Jigsaw. I also felt the Free Flow Gang wasn’t utilized to their fullest potential. Their acrobatic skills would’ve made for some interesting street level action sequences against Castle as worthy opponents with their swiftness and agility, but are far too easily dispatched like any run of the mill thug. What’s the point of showcasing their unique abilities as villains if you’re not going to have a match-up with them against the hero? Big missed opportunity.

I love this film, it's not perfect and it dose need to take a certain mindset and ignore some of the flaws to enjoy it. But when the film works it really works, the action is great, the villains is entertaining, some side characters is pretty decent and some idea is pretty good. Moreover, you watch this film is mainly for Ray Stevenson version of the punisher, when you see him in the film you didn't see the actor playing the punisher but the actual punisher. And I don't really think too deep while watching a early 2000 R-rated superhero movie with over the top action, gore and villains. So if you are fan of the Punisher or R-rated superhero movies but didn't watch this movie or heard bad things about it so avoiding it, give it a chance, it might surprise you in a good way.

    I personally hated it.
Tomas Jane was the best punisher (Netflix punisher is great, but Tomas Jane…. )
I found it over the top with the violence to the point of it being cartoony…. Which is more comic book, and not so much graphic novel. Punisher to me should be grounded in some realism (with the violence).
And in a bit of irony…. It lacks the creativity the 2004 punisher had (the plotting and setups for his revenge, using the enemy to hurt the enemy). Netflix punisher had a bit of this and was my favourite part of it.
But yeah just was too much of a brain turn off downgrade for me from 2004 punisher.
Bonus: I did enjoy the dolph Lundgreen punisher, although Barley remember the film XD just that I enjoyed it.

As a mindless flick, it isn't terrible. I see what they were going for. My main problem with it was that it took away my ability to suspend my disbelief. At the time I saw it, I had just gotten out of the Army and it was obvious to me that the producers and directors had no idea how weapons or tactics work. They were so preoccupied with making an over-the-top violent movie that they made 9MM bullets seem like Howitzer shells and grenades seem like magic potions. It was basically a really bad cartoon in many places.

I haven't watched this yotube video but all I'm gonna say is this.....this Punisher movie was solid. It was a proper Punisher movie and Ray Stevenson was a formidable Punisher. I think Bernthal is the best but Ray Stevenson was still really good. What Stevenson had over Bernthal is physical presence, it's a shame this movie didn't do better. EDIT After watching the video I have to admit yea it was kinda silly, but at the same time I think maybe people should appreciate what a movie is trying to do. If a movie isn't taking itself too seriously maybe the viewers shouldn't. The movie wasn't mean't to be that deep.

This film wanted to take itself so seriously but I just never bought into it.
I don’t mind over the top violence, but here it just came across as too cartoonish and even for 2008 it looked too fake at times. Jigsaw also felt too much like Joker, even the bandage scene they ripped off (no pun intended) from Batman 1989

The best was the first one and after that they really proved they don't have it.
Skulls and clothes and bullet proof vests but how about fights?
After Dolph no actor showed any decent fighting skills and coreographies were horrible.
