Excellent breakdown. I love every season of the show it's following the premise of both films, the first with hosts turning on the guests and the second with replacing humans with hosts. Am committed and in for the long haul. Hoping it doesn't get cancelled like Raised by Wolves.
I gotta rewatch this show. I remember being a bit disappointed by the direction s3 went. I remember wishing they stayed in the parks for the most part and getting out and explaining what was actually happening would be a natural end. Again, I haven't seen it in a while but I remember feeling like they got away from the core show that we were watching in the first 2 seasons
i hear ya. i think i had that same feeling as well. but while making this video, i rewatched it 3 times, and i realllllly liked it each time. one thing that may have changed my view on it is that i went into the rewatch with a vague memory of the humans being the hosts. so if you rewatch the season, think of it from that perspective. its no longer happening at the amusement park. but its not too different. the humans are all effectively on loops. and hopefully, they can break free =))
Tell me about it. WW Season 1 was my all time favorite season as a stand-alone. And then the writers focused too hard on trying to subvert expectations rather than writing something solid. The writers came off as pretentious by how S2 & S3 went by attempting to make each idea more cerebral than the last. I’m still going to watch mainly because the visuals, score and acting are stunning, and probably because I’m hoping it will improve.
2+ years late, but finally catching up on all three seasons. Thanks for making it easier to understand what I just saw in the S3 Finale. Now ..onto Season 4
Even with this careful break down I could barely keep up with all the twists and turns near the end. Haha. But I feel like I see the season much more clearly now so I appreciate that.

Great job! I disagree with one point, Maeve. The main reason Maeve helped Serac was because she is not awake. She is stuck in her 'i must be with my daughter' loop. Serac used this to his advantage and was able to manipulate her. Once Maeve broke from her homesteader she chose to save Caleb. Up to that point, Maeve was operating within her loops.
oh wow. haven't watched yet, will do now. but just seeing the title gave me anxiety, this video couldn't of been easy hah. Season 3 was so convoluted. I've watched it twice and I really couldn't easily summarize half the plot lines or attempt to have them make total sense in my own mind. This will be helpful for season four. Thanks!
yeah, i usually watch an episode or season once, right a rought draft, then rewatch a second time, then make the video. but with this one, i watched rewatched the season 3 times before finalizing my final draft and i technically finished last weekend. but over the last week, i sat on it and ended up taking out some sentences and adding in new ones (which is why my voice changes in parts lol) but now im so pumped for season 4. i didnt recall loving season 3 when it came out. but now, i really liked it (also rewatched season 1 and 2. and i loved them as well =))

I honestly wasn’t that hyped earlier because while I enjoyed season three and compared to many thing on tv its really good, it didn’t have the same hook for me as season one did, or even season two to a lesser extent. That trailer for season four though looks really interesting and I totally want to know what some of those crazy things are, hah. Finished the vid now btw, great job. Also, kinda a random question and you don’t have to answer if too personal, but is there a reason you use NJ for your logo? Just asking because I live in Atlantic City ;) .

Season 1 was fantastic. Season 2 was good. 3 and 4, ok. Unless the whole thing is happening in a simulation. Explain to me, how there could be a split in the dam all the way up into the sky?

I had problems with Caleb and was like why would Aaron Paul play this really what I perceived a weird weak character that I just couldn’t get into or sympathize with but with season 4 oh I get! Ok season 4 is a lot like Maxtrix Resurrection but as much as I love Keanu I think Westworld season 4 was much easier to follow. Maybe I can watch Matrix 4. I’m kind of surprised the Westworld writers came really close to mimic Matrix Resurrections almost beat by beat (except Lawerence Fishbourn the Bowery king? Maybe Teddy?
I consume a lot of Westworld content. This is a great video. I'd say that it's less about libertarian free will, though, than it is a mythological epic about the nature of sentience, the human condition. Our consciousness and intellect create a tension within our minds: the need to survive in a universe of scarcity can cause us to act in ways that change us, ways that make us lose our awareness of Being qua Being (not to get TOO Heideggerrian). Dolores chose Caleb because he MAINTAINS an orientation of "goodness", and his ability to "choose" is ancillary. Free will is not a good thing, implicitly. The free choices made by MANY people are deleterious to others, the world, and themselves. In this way, "will" and intellect are really just the first Technologies we use to affect the world around us. The way we affect the world around us is based on our underlying axiological hierarchies, ie what we value, what we want. Caleb is chosen because he transcends the base, selfish, tribal, and barbaric drives to which so many people are beholden. Basically, Westworld is the story of the children of Cain vs the children of Abel. But as we see with Charlores, EACH of us can be in either one.
The ability choose clearly plays a major part because hosts and humans are being controlled. They are unable to make choices. And ultimately the entire story of the show is based on William and his decisions. Season 4 is showing this. Yes our decisions affect others and the world in negative ways but William's decisions are leading to humans and hosts being completely wiped out. He views humans as flawed, which we are, but also as unfixable. And because humans created hosts they too are unfixable.
I liked season 1. *Loved* season 2. But I was very very disappointed with season 3. I could never get over (and I still can't) how ludicrous an idea I personally think "Rehoboam" is. I just personally believe such a concept (a computer that can manipulate...."everybody") is beyond impossible. It's absurd. And so it was very hard for me to get into anything else going on. I did like the first couple of episodes. I really liked the corporate intrigue, the scenes with John Gallagher Jr. and Pom Klementieff. But the more the plot focused on Vincent Cassel (who I think is an excellent actor) the less I cared. Again, I think the idea behind his entire character is just ridiculous. And unfortunately the Aaron Paul character I didn't give a damn about either. I actually guessed what his "twist" was going to be, and I do not ever guess twists. That is not my skill set. Maybe I was so bored with the story, my mind was able to wander off into other directions like that. Not "excited" about Season 4, but I'm curious so I'll give it a few episodes. Hoping for the best.
Such a great video so many of my questions were answered, I truly love this show and can see how some people may default to not liking it due to so many twists the show makes, in my opinion this is a show you have to pay attention or else you'll get frustrated and just hate it which in the beginning was close to happening with me so glad I stuck with the show.
As soon as Christina appeared I thought she was human. That was my initial feeling and I still think she is human and predates the park. Perhaps they built a game first and then created the park. Maybe the game was testing the storylines for permutations.
yeh i hear ya. im pretty sure there was a time when i assumed that medieval world was going to be the dominant setting for a season (presumably, i thought that before season 2 dropped) but as a fan of japanese samurai docs (like the dramatized documentary on netflix), i found the Shogunworld episode to be pretty gnarly =))

i watched the rest of Outer Range, but those type of videos are very time senstive. and even when i dropped them right away, they got barely any views. so i ended up just watching the rest of the season for pleasure i cant even recall what happened tbh. i do remember getting a bunch of answer, but also a bunch more questions that left me very confused. ill be watching season 2 for sure tho if its renewed. but ill probably wait until then to try dropping videos on it again since im jammed up right now with a House of the Dragon prep series im working on. and next month 2 months will be mainly westworld, and the 2 after than mainly House of the Dragon did you enjoy the ending of Outer Range?

waddup OTDA. yeah mean, i had been expecting Glover by first round sub lol. the fight was so gnarly though. and then, the way it ended was tragic side note: i had Santos winning 1-3. the whole "damager" scoring is weird. (Valentina is my favorite female fighter. but i saw her losing that. and she was not humble in victory. on the other hand, Jiri had lost me lately because the warrior code stuff just got annoying. but he was so humble in victory. now im back to being a big fan of his)
haha EAE. i actually passed out during the last fight on the prelims (around 940ish). when i woke up, Joanna was being interviewed. so in a way, i got lucky. that little nap had me refreshed for the main and co-main unfortunately, i was awake until 4am, which is when i normally wake up. so my entire sleep schedule is effed. i cant stand "normal" time UFC cards
i vaguely recall having a similar feeling when watching season 3 the first time despite liking the actor. but i watched the season 3 times over the course of making this video, and i loved it all tbh i dont follow casting or anything, but id imagine that Caleb will likely play a major role in this upcoming season
The third season was a complete disaster. There is no contrast between the violence in the parks and the real world. Even the smartest people with endless ressources or hosts jump from one gunfight to another. The density of pointless action scenes is very tiring. In the first season, many viewers wanted the hosts to be freed. Some characters were very relatable. In season three, everyone is a killing machine. If no one dies for good even in the real world, the show loses its suspense.
Season 3 and even 2 are disappointing continuations of an amazing 1st season. I loved season 1, really disliked season 3. Season 2 was confusing, but it had a few good elements.
Westworld explained: Grew up watching the original movie, loved it. Something about 70s sci-fi, even though they were relatively low budget, no special effects (sometime stop motion effects), but were usually written well. So, I was hyped about the remake. First season was great! Stuck to the original premise with nice modern updates to keep it interesting. Then what happened? Did they fire all the original writers? Westworld explained: After season 1 it was a disaster! Season 3 was the worst!
I confess, I gave up on this show a long time ago, yet I also enjoyed its weirdness. If Raised by Wolves, another really weird show with tons of money thrown at it was scrapped, I have to wonder why this show is still able to keep going. I can't be bothered to re-watch.
Oh my, what a disappointing season. When the theories are exponentially better than the actual show, the writers really got the show wrong. Rehoboam and Serac did not do anything. They were outsmarted by childish moves. The heavy use of montages was boring. The action sequences were dull. Rehoboam and Serac seem like the dumbest villains, how did they conquer the world? Where was the conflict? I was expecting a chess match and got Dolores playing solitaire with hints activated. However, I have to say that all the youtube parodies of everything that do not make sense this season (Serac speaking better Portuguese than the president of Brazil), made the show worth it.
what a mess. tonally, thematically, scope-wise...everything is different and has no connection to the previous two seasons even if formally that is the case. This is an entirely different story.
S3 was the hardest to follow and understand.

yeah, that's a really good first-time scene because it came out of no where. and it was the final straw that caused Hale to break bad

yeh i hear ya. im pretty sure there was a time when i assumed that medieval world was going to be the dominant setting for a season (presumably, i thought that before season 2 dropped)
but as a fan of japanese samurai docs (like the dramatized documentary on netflix), i found the Shogunworld episode to be pretty gnarly =))

i watched the rest of Outer Range, but those type of videos are very time senstive. and even when i dropped them right away, they got barely any views. so i ended up just watching the rest of the season for pleasure
i cant even recall what happened tbh. i do remember getting a bunch of answer, but also a bunch more questions that left me very confused. ill be watching season 2 for sure tho if its renewed.
but ill probably wait until then to try dropping videos on it again since im jammed up right now with a House of the Dragon prep series im working on. and next month 2 months will be mainly westworld, and the 2 after than mainly House of the Dragon

i vaguely recall having a similar feeling when watching season 3 the first time despite liking the actor. but i watched the season 3 times over the course of making this video, and i loved it all tbh
i dont follow casting or anything, but id imagine that Caleb will likely play a major role in this upcoming season
The third season was a complete disaster. There is no contrast between the violence in the parks and the real world. Even the smartest people with endless ressources or hosts jump from one gunfight to another. The density of pointless action scenes is very tiring. In the first season, many viewers wanted the hosts to be freed. Some characters were very relatable. In season three, everyone is a killing machine. If no one dies for good even in the real world, the show loses its suspense.

Westworld explained: Grew up watching the original movie, loved it. Something about 70s sci-fi, even though they were relatively low budget, no special effects (sometime stop motion effects), but were usually written well. So, I was hyped about the remake. First season was great! Stuck to the original premise with nice modern updates to keep it interesting. Then what happened? Did they fire all the original writers? Westworld explained: After season 1 it was a disaster! Season 3 was the worst!

I confess, I gave up on this show a long time ago, yet I also enjoyed its weirdness. If Raised by Wolves, another really weird show with tons of money thrown at it was scrapped, I have to wonder why this show is still able to keep going. I can't be bothered to re-watch.

Oh my, what a disappointing season. When the theories are exponentially better than the actual show, the writers really got the show wrong. Rehoboam and Serac did not do anything. They were outsmarted by childish moves. The heavy use of montages was boring. The action sequences were dull. Rehoboam and Serac seem like the dumbest villains, how did they conquer the world? Where was the conflict? I was expecting a chess match and got Dolores playing solitaire with hints activated. However, I have to say that all the youtube parodies of everything that do not make sense this season (Serac speaking better Portuguese than the president of Brazil), made the show worth it.

what a mess. tonally, thematically, scope-wise...everything is different and has no connection to the previous two seasons even if formally that is the case. This is an entirely different story.
Well Westworld is done after season 2. Season 3 was total crap. It doesn't count as Westworld. The story ended.
Man so glad I never watched this clusterfuck of a show, season 3 sounds like absolute trash
