Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host - and this video we're breaking down Westworld Season 4 Episode 1. The latest entry is extremely complex and filled with a lot of hidden details, easter eggs and references to the prior seasons. There's also a tonne of theories that I have for what's going on and how that character at the end has managed to come back.
Now we open much in the same way that the third season did. In that we watched an extremely rich man being tormented by Delores until he did what she wanted him to. We discovered that he was an abusive wife beater and here, though the circumstances aren't beat for beat, they do share some similarities.
We join a Cartel leader who took over the hoover damm with the rest of his gang. As with most Westworld openings, we start with them getting ready which is when they head out to meet none other than the man in black.
The Cartel Senior talks about how much of a nice guy William is and as we learned in the previous seasons, guy actually was. It was only when he got to the park that the darker side of him came out and he turned unrecognisable. He'd set up several charitable foundations in the real world which guests even thanked him for but he was such an evil guy his wife even ended her own life when she saw what he'd been up to.
He arrives in the same vessel that Serac used to travel in when he'd hover above humanity judging and deciding the fates of all.
If you cast your mind back to the ending of the last season we had a post credits scene in which he arrived at a Delos Headquarters in Dubai. Here he was seemingly killed by a replica of himself which the version that arrives seems to be.
Now if you cast your mind back to the previous seasons then you'll remember that william lost some of his fingers and at the end of season 3 he wore a glove that covered this wound. As this version gets off the drone we can see that he doesn't have a glove but he has all his fingers, showing that this is indeed a host.

Love the season, but you missed the clue from the trailer. Caleb's daughter is shown in the first trailer as a generation 1 Host with flies coming out of her split open face.
Which begs he question who built the kid at least and possibly the wife. IF they are Halores models then she could have them kill Caleb and not send a hench-host.
Loved the episode, I'm not a season 3 hater, I loved it, even the slow burn. But this first episode was more Westworld than the first episode of season 3.
The other symbol you missed at the end of the montage is the eye of a fly which is made up by the people trapped in the glass bubbles.
What an ending, literally had goosebumps from how perfect everything worked as a whole, from the scene, to the music and the final reveal

My theory: I think Delores “is” Rehoboam now. Rehoboam somehow backed itself up to her when Caleb told it to delete itself at the end of the last season. It must have had some sort of sentience of its own. That’s why the story that “Christina” wrote was so accurate to someone’s actual life in the real world and how she knew so much about them and what would happen to them
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too, too similar with the prophecy and prediction stuff
Exactly. But not only that, whenever we see Christine we are actually INSIDE Reheboam-her world is the simulation that takes place in order to make the predictions on ppls behavior/futures. She is either like an app in which anybody in the outside world can have access to (so her friends are just people who are accessing her information for that time) OR the video came company she works for is some kind of black market system of selling people‘s predictions to them.
The description of the episode on HBO Max also mentions “its all in your head”

They never really explained the power surge Rehoboam had when Dolores was hooked up to it in S3, E8, did they?
Theory Time: I believe Delores (Christine) is in The Sublime. There was a comment about how time moves differently there. I think this is a society that has evolved over what's been hundreds of years for them, but only a few in reality. The world Maeve and Caleb live in still seems scarred by the riots, while Delores is in a sleek, prestine environment. Westworld has always told related stories taking place at different times. This would be a play on that. Or, maybe it is the far future, as you suggested. Regardless, the events involving Delores are not taking place in the same place and/or time as Marve and Caleb.

This could explain why Teddy is there. This Dolores could be the copy of prototype Dolores without the merging with the Wyatt persona which is why she is a damsel in distress here
William is using her code to decrypt the data she locked up.

I can believe I forgot you’d be going over this show. I almost forgot that it was coming on as well. I loved the first episode, the start of a new mystery. I don’t know yet what’s going on but we will figure it out as the series progresses. Great break down as always

I personally believe the flies and specifically when Delores killed the one on her neck during season 1, that was showing us that something had changed inside Delores. Where she wouldn't "hurt a fly" in her true Westworld persona, once activated by the phrase she heard from Maeve, she was able to kill and was starting to awaken.
That's been the most common theory since that episode aired.
It isn't "brain" that's crossed out in the graffiti, its the "AI" in brAIn. Got to love the attention to detail in Westworld.

When watching the scenes with Delores and the "stories" she's writing, I couldn't help but be reminded of The Matrix. With so many "outliers" locked away in stasis, maybe the stories Dolores is writing are simulations that keeps these people's minds occupied?? Things being too sweet or unbelievable to those people might make them question their reality and they're dying after they realize they're in stasis?
This show has everything you could ask for: exceptional writing, directing and acting, haunting dialogue, romance, very complex and evolving characters, surprising twists, breathtaking visuals, well choreographed action scenes and special effects that are cutting edge. The story is deep and enthralling and the plot progresses very efficiently in interesting directions as the characters evolve in huge ways throughout. It’s all set against breathtaking scenery with extremely intricate sets and costumes, enhanced with color and lighting that really exhumes emotion.

If you're talking about season 1, I agree with you. If you're talking about the seasons after, I'd say you're sent here by HBO
@@HeathenGeek Season 1 was…I’m going out on a limb, the greatest written TV show in history. They changed the majority of the writers for season 2 onwards and it degraded increasingly after, symbolised by James Delos’ failed copies.

I’m so excited for Westworld to be back! I felt like the show was doing a lot of under hand establishing of itself in a meta way. Telling Delores that if she doesn’t change the writing to what they want they will replace her made me think that they understand the core fans want that mind melt the first 2 seasons gave us that the 3rd lacked. And other things like that.
Season three was great. To proactive for most ppl I guess.
@@scottalfieri1303 the 1st 2 seasons were the best. The deep level and plot twist it masterfully pulled off twice we’re not present in the 3rd. Still enjoyed the show but it wasn’t the same caliber. The writers even said “we are going to make the 3rd season less complicated” because it blew up and small minded people couldn’t understand what was happening or why the twist endings were so heavy. So they made the 3rd season for people like that and I truly feel like the main core fan base enjoyed it but NO WHERE near the same level we enjoyed the first 2 seasons

S4:E1 was awesome. Just noticed something in S1:E1 The Original episode at around 22:00 Ford and Old Bill (the 2nd host ever built) are having a drink. The Old Bill says "Shall we drink to the lady with the white shoes?" then Ford says something that shuts down Old Bill. That line totally made me think about the black and white shoe scene with Christine in S4:E1.
This show never disappoints. Always keeps you wondering what the hell is really going on. Love it.

I think Delores is in a new park. There are some guys in the beginning of the episode that she passes on a staircase I think it was. They were speaking like guests of westworld. I also think the stories she's writing are actually for other hosts and that's why Peter came after her, the hosts are somehow finding out that the tower is where their lives are written. Just a theory.
Yeah I found it weird when she was walking up the stairs and the guys were pumped up saying how crazy this place is , meanwhile it was a very mellow upper class town
Good one. Makes a lot of sense. Perhaps hosts normally can't see the tower she works in, only the broken ones like that poor person. But she is confused because she can't understand which tower they are talking about. Maybe normal hosts can't even see or identify her. That's why that Peter guy kept saying "I knew you existed" because he was just broken. Might also explain why she feels lonely and not social in this world
Future world
I like the theory that Delores/Christina is part of a simulation, maybe even a virtual one rather than a physical one. At first I wondered why the show runners would bother to give her a new name, but then I thought that maybe she’s going to need to save the characters in the simulation again: she’s the messiah, the “christ” figure (or “Christ”ina).
in the "my brain my choice" just the AI in brain is crossed out. I think that probably symbolizing people getting rid of the AIs control over their minds also

I understand we couldn’t be at this season 4 premise without the previous season’s happenings (duh), but there’s something I already like a lot more than last season. The look, settings (NYC, Hoover Dam, California (maybe Big Bear?), the music, etc. Aaron Paul, Evan Rachel Wood & Thandiwe Newton all look great. Marsden at the end there. I got all-around good vibes from this season just after 1 episode. More so than last season. I hope it’s as a awesome as I’m expecting it to be. Thanks for the breakdown!

I think there's something off with Caleb's family. His wife mentioned the daughter was seven, but the events of last season were seven years ago. So even if he met his wife the night of the last episode and she got pregnant right then, the child would, at most, be a little over 6 years old.

I think Delores/christene is in future world,she's acting like Delores did at the beginning of season 1,a damsel in distress.

I think Westworld has become my favourite show. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea because it’s so convoluted, but when you’re engaged in it, nothing beats it.
It’s crazy how by the end you see how everything was hinted at all along.
On top of that, genuinely I think the acting is among the best I’ve seen in anything, ever.

One of my favourite shows of all time.
I am very much in the camp that "New York" here is a park. Kinda plays nice with Caleb having a kid, or how old characters were resurrected. And these people who are "going crazy" are just those who are going through the maze as it was in the park. Peter's story is foreshadowed as the story that Dolores wrote that "did well".
I think what was "stolen" was the sublime data that was beamed out of the park, and there is a way to decrypt it hence it opened in the Hoover Dam. S4 is very much the theme of humans taking matters in their own hands without being controlled by any entity, rewriting their own stories if you will. If (this is a reach) S1 was about the hosts, S2, the uprising, S3 the human uprising, then S4 would be about the "journey" of these humans.
If William is a host he was created by Halores so she should know the encryption for the sublime you would think. I think s4 is about Hosts taking control of humans, like they did with the cartel guy. Somehow those flies can take over a human body and do the bidding of the host controller. William/Halores want access to the sublime so they can bring all the hosts to the real world is my guess.
At first I thought NY was a simulation but when I heard those guys passing Christina I figured it was a park. Judging by what Hale said to William in the trailer, this season will be a role reversal between hosts and humans…or the process of getting there. I get matrix vibes with Christina writing video games, and somehow those games become simulation of humans…? The flies will play a big role this season, they somehow can control human mind…isn’t that Caleb’s daughter in the trailer with flies coming out of her host skull?

That was answered at the end of last season during the conversation between Maeve and Delores in her mind, just before final wipe. Delores said she put the encryption key elsewhere so she would not be tempted. It could very well be that the Delores half of Halores was not given the information that Bernard has it. That way the 4 other Delores's would not know they could go after him for the key.
I can't believe you're the only reason I know about season 4 of West World aired last night. Swell marketing on HBO's part. 🤦♂️

I think she is the "writer" and somehow ppl are being replaced by hosts and she provides a back story (p.s. hosts where ppl replaced without their knowledge one by one and the tower is probably the one where we see Caleb working and its maybe a central control hub from which everyone is controlled like in WW season one (control room)

In SEASON 3 there was a scene where a single fly noticeably buzzes around (I believe it was) the President of Mexico during a conversation with Cerac at the end of a runway. This always stuck with me since it was obviously intentional and there was never an explaination or call back during the season.....

I just rewatched this just noticed Maya was humming the tune that controls the humans after the flies just like Anastasia was..
Those white host in the tubes on fire… is Caleb who was in one of those tubes being lit on fire. A lot like mr delos circular room being lit on fire when his fidelity tests failed. I believe Caleb died while raiding with Maeve and now he’s a host

@@lochofmceo she probably does hahaha. But if I’m right Caleb and William, aren’t human or host. They are something in between like Bernard. And Maeve couldn’t tell with Bernard. We seen Williams “fidelity text” in S2 finale, and there’s a good chance what we are watching with Caleb is his fidelity or after his fidelity test. We know how WW loves messing with timelines, and the fact we know the Hoover dam serves won’t need maintenance for 100years tells me that we will get a scene where the Hoover dam needs work done
