I do agree, there are much better guitarists but the dabbled in many more genres. Plus Joe Satriani would come along, and he'd teach Kirk Hammett of Metallica probably about the same time. So really things were just evolving in the early 80s.

Takes me back to 1981 seeing them on the “Diary Of A Madman” tour at the Cow Palace, San Francisco. Would love to relive those days. Great concerts that year. VH on the “Fair Warning” tour was another. 👍

When asked at a guitar clinic held at a music store in the eighties about that last run, (there is audio of the session somewhere here on youtube) he replied, "yeah, its in f# minor, i dont remember, i dont really play that live anymore."
