I did a Bob Ross style oil painting in high school for my AP Art exam portfolio. Its not as easy as it looks at a normal size so taking on the challenge of doing it in miniature is even more impressive. These are stunning and I wholly believe that he would have been over the moon if he could see these and see how many people he continues to inspire daily.
A true bob ross project in every sense. And wow, coloring the highest number on all dice should become a trend amongst dicemakers! So much easier to tell the D12s from the D20s etc.
that's actually how i think about nat 1s in game most time - it's just as useful and important to the narrative! there's a thing that i heard somewhere, and it was "make the failures as epic as the successes," and i live by that as a dm and a player
You could also get a cheap set of sculpting tools. Some have a tool that is basically a tiny offset palette knife. While I don’t know how unwieldy it will be, you’re far less likely to find yourself painting the dice with your own blood.
I've actually had to make a Bob Ross painting in high school art; It took me about 3 weeks. Seeing something replicated on dice that is as complex as an actual painting is super cool. Props! They look really good
Saw this on my google feed and dropped everything to watch it. XD This is amazing. Don't be too hard on yourself with the painting. Bob Ross uses oil paints, which paint super differently to acrylics. So a lot of his 'pull through' techniques are totally differently in acrylic.
Rybo, I've been watching for a long time, and I've gotta say that these are my favorite, maybe even my a longshot. I love Bob Ross, so there might be a lot of bias there, but these are just plain beautiful and so unique. If they were for sale, I'd spend entirely too much money on acquiring a set. Keep it up bud!
A small tip for anyone, if even your smallest brush is too big you can try the tip of a toothpick! These look awesome and I love the whole attitude about them
These paintings are very impressionist style where up close it is easy to see the brush strokes but when you step back the image comes together. I think Bob Ross would be proud.
These actually look really amazing! Who would have thought little deliberate paintings inside dice would be a thing that could be done... color me impressed.
Bob Ross's technique is designed to be nearly fail-proof when followed! I think he would be extremely proud of these! And huge props to giving the dice the same red as his signature in respect!!!
As someone who has more experience in art than dice, I cannot express just how much I love everything about this. One of the most wholesome dice-itans crossed with one of modern histories most wholesome artists
Have to agree with you there, the D4 turned out the best. The hint of sunrise red behind the mountains is just 'chef's kiss'. And you showed it really well, what artists and crafters have to deal with. While working you're practically with your nose on your work and see every little mistake and imperfection, while anyone else never gets that close and sees the whole picture without the crippling self doubt involved.
these look so lovely! dont worry about them looking bad up close, not all paintings are meant to be enjoyed close up. a monet wouldnt be viewed from a inch away
Stephen beat me to it again. But this video came just when I needed it. Today could not have been worse but this is the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for this amazing content and lifting my very broken spirits today :)
I'm currently painting faces on some dice right now and have an equal amount of paint smeared on my fingertips! You're a delight to watch Rybonator and a huge inspiration, thank you.
These are gorgeous!!! Love that you turned around this project (mistakes are part of learning) and made them into something beautiful that also brings you, and us, joy. You really rock Rybo, thank you for carrying on the spirit of sharing, creativity, and love that Bob wanted to leave behind. You honor his memory with these dice. Best wishes to you and Rybowife, and your family
I love painting (minis for me) and reaching a point of almost despair and then suddenly something happens (usually black wash or dry brush) and they look so good!
Wow this was amazing. Super creative. One tip I think for the future is either smaller brushes or I think sometimes you had too much paint on your brush. Details like the trees are easier to layer with a more dry brush. They look amazing but I think if you re did it you might need to dry brush more to have more control of the paint.
Omg that intro was almost as beautiful as the dice. Rybo Ross was perfection. I think this set turned out really well. It’s more Van Gogh than Bob Ross up close but people like Van Gogh for a reason and they look great.
It is amazing how much of a difference zooming out makes on these. Looking at them with the super up close camera and you can see every error. look at face value and see he whole thing, and these are masterpieces. Amazing work!!
Bob Ross is my favourite person of all time - I am a huge fan. You did such a great job instilling not just his art but his ethos in this dice set 💕 Bob always told us to just do our best no matter the outcome 💕
Geniunely the most gorgeous set youve ever made, and i dont say that lightly. I would definitely love to see a round 2 at some point. Hot damn Rybonator, youve out done yourself
I'm sure Bob Ross would be proud of you for rescuing those "failures" and turning them into an awesome dice set. Even though you had inexperience and an absolutely tiny canvas working against you, they don't look like it. A testament to both your own talent and Mr. Ross' teaching ability, I'd say.
These look amazing! Just think, if they had been a success as a gradient, these amazing wonders may never have existed! Gotta love the happy little accidents.
So as it happens, I have done a few tiny Bob Ross paintings before. I prefer to use a scalpel as a pallet knife, it even allows you to add teeeeeny weeny highlights to things and miniscule sticks and twigs in bushes. Just thought I'd share for those wanting to attempt something like this
This is so awesome. Having seen a bunch of videos of people "following a Bob Ross tutorial but...." with some catch, making them into dice is sweet and they look fantastic. I bet even Bob Ross would have found recreating one of his paintings on such a small canvas and a 3d shape challenging. Well done.
This is very well done, especially for the scale of the project (bigger canvas is way easier than smaller) but also because you say to never have done painting. You've done a good job and you can be proud of yourself.
These are amazing. I’m proud of you for going out of your comfort zone and making these. It’s very well done and I think this set looks better than what you actually intended to do. I kind of want to see you do a few more sets like this, painted and coated, just to see what you come up with.
I did a bob ross painting (1st ever painting for me) not too long ago I must say I got up and walked away several times. I hated the way it looked. As a joke I gave it to a neighbor thinking it was more of a prank/gag gift. She started crying proclaiming how beautiful it was. I genuinely didn’t think it was good at all. Then she sent me a picture of it mounted in her living room and I finally saw it. Distance made it go from really really bad to WOW!!!!!! These dice almost brought me to tears no joke! In all seriousness these are borderline masterpieces! Absolutely stunning!!!!!
I’ve always loved Bob Ross’ painting videos and have even made a painting based off of his aurora painting. The dice really did come out beautifully, you did an awesome job painting them. Also if you ever want to try doing gradient dice again Rybo, maybe you could try using acrylics and dry brushing on the gradient. You’ve probably already heard of the technique but dry brushing is where you get very little if any paint on the brush and use it to blend colors together. Anyways, loved the dice! And any bad rolls on them are just happy little accidents. :)
Those dice are beautiful and I think you did a really good job for your first painting. I paint miniature paintings for dollhouses and it does take some time to get a handle on the scale and what techniques you can use at that scale. Great job.
This was honestly a great result, I'd totally make terrain dice out of these kind of dice if I was good at any other kind of art aside pixel art Slowly but surely you are getting to more artsy dice designs, really looking forward to the egg shell carvings
@@Rybonator You know... if you ever need a pixel artist to help you out with that, it's literally my job, I can think off a few ideas for that, it would be a lot of fun haha
I just wanna say, I've been following you for years--like long enough for me to have spent months thinking of dice making as something I wanted to do "someday" to Covid to have pushed me to do the damn thing--and I think these are some of my favorite dice that you've made too. Nice work!
ngl when you said you weren't too impressed with them before you left them for a bit I was actually impressed. I was never good at painting traditionally but I work in digital all the time and sometimes when I zoom in too close I just hate what I'm doing, but if I show someone else that section they almost always say that it looks great. I think we artists in every medium are just way too critical of our own stuff and we just need to learn when to step back or come back with a fresh set of eyes and just see it from a new perspective. Often literally.
Ahh beat the devil out of the resin 😆 I've never seen dice painted in this way and I think they're beautiful. And it's such a wonderful tribute to Bob Ross to do this with things that started out failures / happy little accidents, especially from a guy who doesn't just keep Bob's spirit alive through one dice set, but shows a Bob-like perspective on failure throughout many different videos.
I think Bob would have been tickled to death seeing you do this. I know I certainly enjoyed you doing this :D Your "happy little accidents" came out very fine indeed and it was a "Joy of painting 🎨" to watch ;) Cheers Ryan! Keep on doing what you're doing.
wow! these dice are incredible, they look lovely! it would be awesome to see more painted dice like these in the future, if you felt like it. i never thought about dice as a tiny canvas like that, but it works so well. also i hope to see more of rybo ross and his manly chest hair, too ;D
Don't be so hard on yourself, the art looks amazing! If you want to get finely detailed brushes for any more paint projects, may I suggest nail art brushes? They are much more suited for small projects like these.
these are gorgeous i think you did an amazing job. im glad you toughed through this project and showed us the results. all in all they turned out beautiful!!

I'm liking this channel a lot and I've been encouraged to try to make my own dice set but I'm afraid that by not having a pressure spot it will fill with bubbles and be ruined This dice set looking awesome
Bob Ross may have infinitely more hair on his head than I do, but I think I have him beat in chest hair.
This would bring bob ross so much joy, eight down to the questionable whig
It's awesome that you literally turned them I to works of art...after you beat the devil out of them..hah
I did a Bob Ross style oil painting in high school for my AP Art exam portfolio. Using a exacto as a spatula could've made thinner trees.
But this concept was amazing. Nicely done.

What a fun take on recreating Bob Ross paintings that I never would have considered! Wonderful work, these look amazing and like so much fun!!

I love that these were the failed batch that are now sooo bad ass! So happy to see it worked out.
A nice change to the happy little accidents that they once were :)
Now that's a glow up. Looks great Rybo Ross!
Thanks Stephen! A VAST improvement over the gradient 'happy little accident' :)
@@Rybonator No worries! Thanks again for the great content!
I died at the “beat the devil out of the resin” comment. Glad I was able to come back to life enough to watch the rest of the video.
Listening to your story about how Bob Ross helped you through school as I work on my dissertation to your videos. Poetic cinema.
That right there is how circular narratives are born :)

I have never thought about doing mini paintings inside of the dice. That's such an incredible idea!
I’ve recently seen a couple dice makers on tiktok do “stained glass” dice, which is basically this, only stained glass patterns instead of Bob Ross.
You have combined two of my favorite things: Bob Ross and dice
A small tip for anyone, if even your smallest brush is too big you can try the tip of a toothpick! These look awesome and I love the whole attitude about them
I can almost see Bob looking down with a big, proud smile on his face. Great job!
that barely buttoned shirt in the intro, true to character, I love it LOL
almost like he was back. Smooth voice and such positivity. Brilliant!
Only at the beginning, but I'm already in love. Can't wait to see how they end up. 😁
I need to permanently adopt his look
These paintings are very impressionist style where up close it is easy to see the brush strokes but when you step back the image comes together. I think Bob Ross would be proud.
That dual layer of resins after painting is really great looking!

This is my favorite video yet.
