  • This is pretty much a "how to kill weeds in crack and crevice" and also "how to kill weeds in landscape beds" video that just happens to focus on spurge.
Here is my original weed torch review:
    • Propane Weed Burner To...
This is a good all around spurge (and other weed) control that will work in cool and warm season grasses: amzn.to/2gwDTy3
SpeedZone will also work well in cool season lawns and Bermuda (but not St Augustine): amzn.to/2gwHyMg

Thanks for helping me finally learn what that weed is. I live in Clearwater and have been fighting it since moving here last year from Pittsburgh. That stuff grows anywhere. I found it in Pittsburgh on the tiniest crack on my asphalt driveway.

I would like to say we used the mats around our house about 9 years ago and then topped it with lava rock. We never had a single weed issue in 9 years. We moved out a month ago and are going to do the same to our current place as the weeds are all through the landscaping.

Fine tip markers.... just the tips right?
I've had a lot of luck with Speedzone red label herbicide. It's ok to use in grasses as well. However be careful to measure carefully because it will kill off anything and everything if mixed too strong. I actually did this on purpose to kill off stubborn unwanted ground cover in my beds and it worked better than glyphosate.
Great vid, I look forward to every Sunday and can't wait for the next one.

You can still put it down. It will be a dormant feeding, but that will help the grass come back strong in the spring. As a rule of thumb, you can put down Milorganite any time the ground isn't frozen.

Great educational video. I have quite a bit of spurge in my postage stamp. Unfortunately it's too late to pre-emerge but with what you've given me I have a weapon for next year. I also have a weapon of knowledge on how to get rid of it this year. Not going to be easy in that I have roses growing where the spurge is and I also have lantana and even RTF... None of which I want to kill. Of course. So thank you very much. And if you have any suggestions please feel free to give them. I will take them to heart.

great info thanks. Hoping to starting studying for comm appl license, so more videos like this informative weed identification and selective elimination is MUCH appreciated. One caution...I cant speak for the pine straw mulch, but im guessing that stuff is pretty easy to ignite! Might want to consider a fire extinguisher or water hose handy if you are running the torch to kill the weeds.

Triclopyr is about all you need for spurges and oxails in my opinion. Turflon is what I use. Typically takes no more than a tablespoon in a gallon! It works every time and does not volatilize as much as Dicamba or even 2,4-D Amine (let alone the ester)... Though don't get me wrong your three-way will work or four-way like Speedzone works, too.

In Michign, for a lawn in the country, my grass looked pretty good even w/o any fertilizers. Then this past autumn I experienced big patches of bare lawn, and the only thing that survived was spurge. I pulled a lot out as it was the only thing left in large patches. All the leaves of the plant were gone and only the flat stems were evident. I want to treat the remaining lawn with dithiopyr, but I also need to reseed the lawn at the same time to cover the huge bare spots. Will the dithiopyr kill my grass seeds?

The Lawn Care Nut I understand. As much as we all enjoy lawn care, I'd much rather be focusing my efforts of growth of good plants vs death of bad ones.
Make sure it's POLYMERIC Sand. when it gets wet the first time, it has silica binders in it that bind the sand together forming a seal between the pavers. Sweep into cracks, give it a light cleaning with the blower, mist with water hose. You may need two apps to get a good fill.

Gonna throw a different take on this.
    1. NEVER use fire as recommended in this video. Two reasons for this - The first being is that the seeds will jump (several feet even) when you apply heat. The second is that the plant WILL come back with shorter stems and what seems to be concentrated seed heads. Unlike other weeds with soft crowns where fire works, this has a woody stem (crown) over the (also woody) taproot that will protect it. Fire on weeds works when you heat just enough to make the leaves shrivel, thus cutting it's food supply and works on soft tissued plants - this is not one of those.
    2. Just use a mix of Speedzone and Mesotrione once they first pop up and you won't see them again for at least a month. Then reapply if you see them again (you probably won't). Best and cheapest method there is.

We moved into a house that was vacant for about 2 years and we have quite a few trees or weeds that turned into trees (they don't look like any normal tree) that have grown in the landscape. Now I have cut them all down but they keep coming back. How do I kill them FOREVER??? These things will grow even if I cut them just below the soil line - DAM ROOTS - HELP ME PLEASE!!! Oh yeah (edit) we later found out that the people before us was alergic to everything and never put down any fert or as she put it POISON so that's part of our problem. Let me tell you one thing we THREW IT DOWN this summer and it's going to take next summer of THROWING IT DOWN to get it thick as your lawn was at your old house.
