This card came from a one print set and was very powerful. At this point, it’s not as used, but it’s become the status symbol of the game
Love it Scott. Go big or go home. You can't go wrong on any 1st ed base......there is a ton of security knowing that even very young kids these days play Pokemon. Not only will the baton be "passed" from our generation to theirs, but also people our age are still buying and it's increasing! Going to be a bright future for many many years to come.
Are we talking even the uncommons and commons? If they're simply 1st edition base (and preferably a high PSA rating) do you reckon they're worth jumping into?

i sold my first edition base charizard in mint condition for $450 on ebay back around 2011.. so much regret.. but you're right that the market was super slow then.. most people in our generation stopped collecting cards after neo.. and then few of us actually came back to the collection hobby. I sold many first edition base holos for like $30-$50...hurts my soul

Scott do you think you publically sharing your strategy and position on 1st edition base will cause a spike on these cards due to others copying you? It happens a lot these days in MTG, someone will mention an old card or product on a podcast or video and people rush to buy it out and spike the price.

Yeah I'm still seeing 1st Edition Fossil and Rocket cards going fairly cheap and I can't think why! They're not that common still, are they? Every now and again you might also see someone putting base cards up on eBay that go pretty cheap, and they're 1st Edition, I think it's just being in the right place at the right time!
I honestly believe there are only a couple of the newer sets that will raise value. But for the most part, with the newer sets, they won't hold value. The older sets will bc they aren't as flooded as todays market is.
Cards will continue to climb. Eventually, fossil, jungle, and base set 2 will follow suit. If the entry is too high for you now build up until you can close the gap because the gap will forever widen if not!
hey! I had 5,000 dollars worth of holographics and 1st Edition Base Set Rares in my second PSA returns video, and 6,000 worth of Base Unlimited Charizards in the fifth. They sold really cheap some years ago and I regret doing it, so I know how it feels to have opportunity slip right through my hands. hell, the Growlithe and Clefairy Doll came back to me twice for 20 bucks just to make me feel more stupid(I sold them), but hey, I guess its something you gotta live it. But now I know to keep them...
reminds me alot of the bitcoin/crypto market. it fluctuates and sometimes its best to get capital and keep it flowing to possibly acquire more over sitting stagnant.

Well the prices difference seems large but when you look at gold for example which was £14 per oz in 1970 and is now £950 per oz its not that much.
