Saving, investing and being minimal is great and really the only real way to build wealth. On the other hand however, it doesn't make sense to not spend part of your money on experiences and other expenses that will create lifelong memories, even if that impacts your potential monetary growth
100% this. No one needs a super car, it doesn't really improve your day to day life dramatically a normal car will do. However life experiences and memories can be invaluable. Everything in life is about balance, when you get to the end of your life are you going to look back and say wow I'm so happy I have this bugatti, a mountain of cash and a mansion, or would you rather have a shit ton of amazing memories, real friends, great experiences. I know which I would rather.
Funny things how common that is... my father has been a Doctor for 32 years and tells me stories of Brain surgeons (Dr. Strange) who make 600k+ who are in Debt 🤣👌... My personal operational costs haven't change by much since I was 21.... I'm 30 now and make exponentially more. So that rule of thumb of being a minimalist has allowed me to have that much more Liquid Cash saved up than friends who make 4x what I make on a yearly basis... 😬👌

Going 30-40 mph through woods and mud will get your heart rate up quick! Adult go-carts cost a coupe of low-grades charizards each, but man you get a several years of fun out of them.
There was this news story here in Norway sometime ago about an old guy that died. He had been living alone in a small shed and never bought anything fancy for himself. Turned out he had several millions on his bank account that he never spend. As with all things in life, it is a balance. It is good to be minimal, but it is also important to allow yourself to have fun and do irrational stuff from time to time.
I’ve read stories like that about people here in the states as well. They have a six figure job yet shop at goodwill and eat ramen noodles all week. When they die it’s discovered they have millions in the bank.

My friend worked as a bank teller back in the day and the person that used to come in with the most cash in their account looked like a homeless person. People my age in Australia complain about house prices and how unaffordable the market is, yet they're the same people that have travelled the world for months on end .. I stayed at home and didn't travel and I own my house, it's all about priorities.

Love this video. I wish more people would practice stuff like this. I read that book about a year ago and it blew my mind. I am nowhere near your level, but I’ve only been living a minimal lifestyle/forgetting materialism for a couple years and I’m already near 6 figures. I wish more people were honest about money. I think it would fix a lot of the problems we have in this country because everyone thinks they can consistently buy 500 dollar shoes and be rich.

This video is pretty much where I am at my life now with money. I'm 31. We've always been decent with our money but now we're tightening up our budget. Bought brand new vechiles in 12/13. They are both now paid off, and never again will I buy new and finance. Planning to pay off the rest of our smalls debts to have our only debt as our mortgage. Once our kids are in school full time my wife will get a job so we can pay off the mortgage hopefully by my early 40s
This girl sees your beautiful red/blue/yellow boxes and wish my family hadn't pilfered my room when I first moved out. My parents threw out my storage boxes full of every pokemon game case and my binder of complete base, jungle, fossil and movie promo cards/ancient mews, etc. Pretty much everything before 2008 gone and I was ocd about keeping things nice too. They just compare it to beanie babies thinking its trash.
Best way to save money is cooking your own food. buy potatos carrorts beef/ chicken stalk, butter, salt, and pepper. You can make all kinds of different dishes with those ingredients and itll be good every time.

My strategy is silver and gold when it comes to preserving wealth then once i hit a target value of it i transfer it to a better investment vehicle. May it be collectibles or stocks or (to hell) bitcoin. At my few years of doing stocks and etc. while im reading constantly about finance, i learned that bearish people most likely win against the bulls. the profit margin is overwhelmingly better and the amount of risk is quite lesser. Gradual accumulation. No overnight moon shot investments. Slow and steady is the name of the game. But hey! If you can get a 1000% profit why not but it's always better to minimize risk.
Hey scott, I enjoyed what you had to say about what you collect holding its value. I collect sneakers and cards but mostly sneakers, almost all the money I earn I am usually trying to flip it. sometimes it cucks me because I will overdraft my account sometimes
Most famous people like rappers lease their million dollar vehicles for appearances. Atleast they used to, now they buy fast food franchises, water companies, and sell headphones lol
i enjoy having just enough a month to pay bills and get myself a little something for another month well done. i work around 21 hours a week and am widely happier than when i was working 40+ hours. more money and luxuries just bring more stress
i feel as if putting money into pokemon card collecting is my way of investing in something. im not sitting on high tier cards or anything but the market is never fully predictable and who knows what i could be sitting on in 10-20 years time

haha the book you mention is terrible. This book is a classic example of taking a few simple concepts and restating them in every imaginable form to reach a decent book length. The useful information could be summed up into a small pamphlet. "Be as cheap as possible : buy used cars, leave in poor neighbourhoods and buy cheap clothes from Winners. Save as much money as you can."
Great book selection! If you are interested in more finance books like "The Millionaire Next Door", I would recommend reading Benjamin Graham's classic "Intelligent Investor" (which holds up very well for a 60+ year old book) and Ben Bernanke's "Intro to Economics" (All of his books are great but the older ones like "Inflation Targeting" -currently reading this one - are a bit dry)

I'm a huge Pokemon fan and I have been checking out your videos for the best Pokemon cards to buy for investment purposes and for the nostalgia. Your videos have been invaluable in confirming what I have presumed would be the best conservative investments for cards. Keep up the great work, you should certainly have many many more subscribers.
Besides the fact that I would underline "being minimal" as an essential way to live a happy life, the definition of "success" as "having a lot of money on my bank account" is somehow disturbing me. Furthermore there is the question in which way people who are just trading things (no matter if this are collectibles or stocks or whatever) are contributing to our society. At least they are not bulding or constructing homes to live in or streets to walk on, they are not caring for other peoples in a hospital or daycare center, they are not producing food etc. Don't get me wrong, but somehow I feel that you lost your real passion for the hobby and became just concerned about the investment side of your activities or with other words the money you can earn. For me success means having a wonderful wife, having great children, doing a job which gives me the feeling of contributing to society and sometimes, of course, playing a round of Pokemon tcg. :-) All in all I would rather prefer videos in which you are intoducing rare cards, aspects of the history of the Pokemon tcg or other interesting items.

Also, people who need to get rich quick but are not willing to put in effort and contribute to society are the same types of people who were responsible for things like The Great Depression of 1929 and the Recession of 2008. If something is only in demand because people think it will go up in value, it is bound to crash. That's speculative demand, which is unsustainable. The alternative asset bubble is already starting to burst.
