Re-queen to fix the temperament of the hive. Here in Texas we re-queen every spring from breeders in the north where there aren't africanized genetics to keep our bees well bee-haved and gentle.

Hi William, It has been a joy watching you branch out from your Mom & Pop and absolutely love your channel - GREAT WORK!!!
    Couple questions;
What are your thoughts about bees under home power electric wires?
On our SW Oregon farmstead we have a 1/2 ac multi species/varietal stone fruit orchard and use 5ft plastic tree tubes to protect from deer and small varment, growth seems slower than what I anticipated over the 3 1/2 years since bare root planted with cardboard and continuous heavy wood chip mulching - thoughts or ideas?
A friend gave us ALOT of old worm leachate in plastic containers (supposedly vented for air) from last year, some mold seen growing in some of the containers, is this stuff still alive at all, any benefit to still using it or will we be introducing bacteria’s that we don’t want to to our gardens and orchard?
Lastly we have an opportunity to get Heritage Gravenstein Apples from a 100 year tree orchard, would love to propagate on our farm, since I don’t have root stock to graft I was thinking of using a “Stefan Sobk” method of burying the apples …any idea?
    Thanx JB !

I remember hearing the same bee problems when traveling to Europe 15 years ago from farmers and beekeepers that the telecommunication lines were causing Bee death and confusion - and thereby less honey & pollination. Sounds feasible - all those internet / phone / radio waves has to negatively impact something

Yes, some bees are very angry. For them, it's protective. All those stingers pretty soon, you won't have any bees left.
Smoke is a distraction they get ready to escape a forest fire. Try hanging some cloth so it flutters in the wind in front of the entrance to the hive. Ten or twenty feet away. It may get them accustomed to movement near the hive. Some bees get protective if you get in front of the entrance or your shadow crosses the open hive body. Some times a new queen will take care ot the problem in a few weeks.
PS. Provide a water source near by for the bees if they don't have to go a long way for water they will have more time with the plants. Water helps them make honey and keep the hive cooler. Clean water with something they can land on in the shade. When you.move a hive it needs to be a two step process. First step move two miles away for several days then move back to the location you want them in. If you make one short jump your bees will get lost and try to go to their old location.

This is what the web has to say about the bees and microphone.
Bluetooth microphones, specifically those using the 2.4 GHz frequency band, have been found to disrupt honeybee communication and behavior.
Honeybees rely on complex communication methods, including:
    1. Dance patterns
    2. Pheromones (chemical signals)
    3. Vibrations
    4. Electromagnetic fields
Research suggests that Bluetooth signals, which operate within the 2.4 GHz range, can interfere with honeybees' ability to communicate effectively. This interference may:
    1. Disrupt navigation and orientation
    2. Alter dance patterns
    3. Impact pheromone release and detection
    4. Affect colony coordination
Studies have shown that exposure to Bluetooth signals can lead to:
    1. Increased agitation and aggression
    2. Disrupted hive activity
    3. Reduced honey production
    4. Impaired navigation and homing abilities
    It's essential to note that:
    1. Not all Bluetooth devices affect honeybees equally.
    2. The impact may vary depending on factors like signal strength, duration, and proximity.
    3. More research is needed to fully understand the effects.
To minimize potential disruptions, beekeepers and researchers recommend:
    1. Keeping Bluetooth devices away from bee colonies
    2. Using alternative frequencies (e.g., 5 GHz)
    3. Implementing shielding or signal-blocking materials
    4. Conducting further studies to better understand the effects
Remember, honeybees play a vital role in our ecosystem, and understanding their behavior is crucial for their conservation and our environment!
Thanks for sharing your observations with us.

To each his own as far as how you keep your bees.
I’ve had dozens and dozens of hives over a lot of years. I never went into a hive without smoking them. If you consider every bee that stings something dies so you actually are loosing bees with each sting. The smoke will calm them down and you will loose less bees each time you go into a hive.
They will also lack much to eat during the dearth (from mid July to Fall Goldenrod bloom). So yes they will eat their honey at this time. But they’ll build it back up with fall pollen flow.
Why don’t you do an experiment video and smoke them vs no smoke and show the results? This would be interesting.
Suggestion: Rather than move your hives just install a shade tarp over them with a few metal T posts and give them some shade. Maybe raise them up too so the skunks won’t eat them too. Get the boxes off the ground. Just sit them up on a couple cinder blocks.
Love your videos! Keep posting please.

Thanks for the advice buddy! I definitely want to get them up off the ground.
I'm not opposed to smoking them, I just haven't seen much of a difference in the past. It seemed like it would work on some hive and then just make other hives mad. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

    • @MississippiFiddler

@@ThePermacultureConsultant If you decided to try smoking, get you a decent smoker and I also use a small hand held propane torch for keeping my fire going. (it comes in handy lol). Anyway, if you try it, really smoke the entrance heavy at first, then just wait a couple of minutes, then open the box. Give the smoke time to work and calm them down. As you gently open the box, hit them a few more times with the smoke. And as you work them, hit them with several puffs of smoke really good every 10 minutes or so. You should see a big difference. Just don't rush into it. Go slow. Hope this helps! Appreciate you sharing your vast knowlege of permaculture!!!!!! You (and your dad) are the absolute best on TH-cam! I want to meet you someday lol! All the best!

Sorry had missed if you explained why you didn't smoke your bees. I'm not a Bee Keeper but have followed some cousins that did. Generally they visited the hives in the cool of the mornings. They had hives up here in Ohio and would move south in the winter, do recall they took some to Florida. Of course they did not have cell phones or such back in the 70s/90s before they retired. Too I never recalled them taking their spinner and supplies back to the yard as you have shown. Will follow up with a cousin now running the business to get some inside from him. They family was started by their Grandfather originally, now ran by 3rd generation 100years later.

Man, you need a Honey Bee Consultant! Far as the mic goes, it's black and furry. Like a Bear. Bees and Bears are natural enemies. I do believe the Bees don't like the stuff bluetooth and any electronic equipment puts off. Another thought, You may have been a bit hyped and anxious doing the video. That and the electronics were maybe a double whammy on their attitude. Yes, you should have smoked them lightly or sprayed with a water/sugar solution. Would have helped. And yup move those Bees into a dappled sun area. Helps to keep the hive and their temperament cooler. Don't go full shade or the hive beetles will take over the hive. Like anything keeping Bees is a learned thing. Stay with it and you'll get it.

    Verse 68:
And your Lord inspired the bee [saying]: ‘Make your home in the mountains, and on the trees and the trellises that they erect.
    Verse 69:
Then eat from every [kind of] fruit and follow meekly the ways of your Lord.’ There issues from its belly a juice of diverse hues, in which there is a cure for the people. There is indeed a sign in that for a people who reflect.
The Messenger of God said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, the believer is like a bee which eats that which is pure and wholesome and lays that which is pure and wholesome. When it lands on something it does not break or ruin it.
