    Made my own friction savor from 3/4" flexduit and a couple of flexduit splices (cut one splice off and smooth the cut...makes a nice end for rope to pass thru). Make a bunch cheaply.

    Didn't work out in the white pines so I ordered 2 Dan House 30" sleeves. The huge poplar 🌳 I was only able 2to get a throwline up 32' & the big crotch was 5' higher. I climbed up & double tethered myself until I was @ the right angle to toss a throwball a few feet with paracord over the big crotch. The sleeve worked perfect lengthwise & the angle climbing the 🌳 is ideal. This is a close range killing tree. 2 weeks ago a landlocked pregnant doe chased 2 bucks right on top of me & I was able to get over a minute of video undetected @ 10 yards. My other spot is a killing 🌳 white oak that needed a sleeve & it had huge vines & dead branches I had to remove. The sleeve worked equally well in that 🌳. The promo code was no longer available last week. Thanks for the help & tips since there is a way to get into the 🌳 even if it isn't always quick & easy.

    Thanks! Does going around the tree without the tube ruin the predator rope? How long should we expect a rope to last without a tube?

    • @NYSaddleHunter
      @NYSaddleHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What destroys a rope is heat in the Blake's hitch if you descend fast. It can literally melt and glaze the rope. My rope is 3vyears old and I climb often. Its still.like new. I inspect my rope immediately after every climb so I know it's in good condition next time I climb. A rope can become damaged by foriegn metal in tree . However if you don't run into that I expect to get 3-5 years out of my rope. But when in doubt change it out. Never climb on something you are questioning.

    I can't find this type of friction saver anywhere. The only ones I can find are Ring style. Would Ring style be too complicated to bring into a hunting situation?

    • @NYSaddleHunter
      @NYSaddleHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are noisy unless you stealth stripped the rings . You could make one out of 3/4 plastic sealtight . You know a seal tight whip electrical connection for outdoor use. Its basicly the same thing

    Scott, I have a tree I really want to hunt but the crotch is tight. The paracord loop goes okay but the climbing ropes tends to hang up. Do you suggest using one of these? The plan would be to set it in with paracord and leave it there. Do you anticipate any difficulties in have the paracord loop to climbing line connection feeding through? I have the platinum rope for SRT.

      Most definitely yes. Some crotches are tighter than others (humor intended!). Some bark is rougher than others.

      @@NYSaddleHunterWhat's the limb diameter rating for 1/2x18" to wrap around safely without kinking? The description only says limbs as small as 6".

    I thought the friction saver was protecting the rope

      What beats up a rope isnt friction of the limb its the friction in a hitch when decending too fast

    I have a few huge white pines on public land in a couple of nice spots. Getting a throw line in them is tough. I was able to get a couple in back in late March. I bought a Herbol friction saver from WesSpur for these setups. The 4' length for doing a girth hitch up. I climbed the 🌳 & tethered myself to the 🌳 just below where I was going to put the preset for the Herbol. Then I put the Herbol over the branch I used to climb up with my rope & a branch on the other side of the 🌳 to use it as a girth hitch. I made sure to put the paracord over those branches since it leaves the heavy strap over both branches parallel to the ground. The rings are about 5 inches apart since the 🌳 30' up is not much smaller than @ the base. U would need to set this up for an afternoon hunt & leave the Herbol up there if u planned to come back to hunt it in the morning. I wouldn't recommend leaving it up any longer than that. It works pretty slick & is very quiet.

    What do you guys think of just using some tubular webbing instead of buying a friction saver? Has it been tried? I make a lot of webbing products, so I may try it out.

  • @Trozar
    @Trozar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I actually just bought a ring to ring. I'm gonna test ways to make it more quiet. Maybe electrical tape. Maybe I'll end up getting a tube style for hunting. I've gotten into recreational climbing since I started watching this so thanks for that! Lol

      How has that ring system worked out for you? I've been looking at the same setup and then came here to see about finding more info.

    why don't you guys show us how you get the rope up with the "SCOUTING" ropes you guys said you set up pre season ?
    I think you need to explain how you use that rope to set up quickly
