Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us! I've been thinking of getting a bunny and your research and personal experiences are incredibly well thought out, thorough and so so useful :) Hope you're taking care of yourself after all that stress, really appreciate your videos
Very interesting. My bun is having the same issue. I’m distraught that there are no bunny savvy vets anywhere near us. The regular vet admitted she was unable to help. I feel so bad for my little elderly gentleman. Glad your bun is doing well.
Aww sweetie, I could see how upset and stressed this made you. I was near tears. I hope he, Bunmi and you all get through the rest of the after care together, sending you good energy from another lop bun mum.
Thank you so much for sharing. I'm so glad Turbo did well with his! My Snoopy has been battling ongoing ear infections and abscesses since he was 2. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and another condition aged 1, meaning he could never have GA or major surgery. This is the surgery I wanted for him too. I just wanted to comment to say, if your bun isn't able to have surgery, it's not the end
Your thoroughness and explanations are really helpful. I've been a bun mum for five years, watched a lot of videos, and yours do the work! You tell the viewer and show so much of the process in detail I find it to be very educational unlike many other videos I've seen. Thank you!
You are a good bunny parent. I have 2 guinea pigs and one got sick with a tooth infection. I had to clean it everyday for months and it stunk like nothing I have ever smelled before. But its strange that the love you have for this little creature makes it all worthwhile.
Poor turbo! Our late lop boy Augie had a similar issue, he didn't havr an infection but the during a regular check up the vet felt the pocket of wax by just touching the base of his ear. The vet said lops are prone to wax build-up because their ears are not straight up so wax can't easily come out like other breeds. Vet suggested to monitor and manage by feeling the base of his ear every few weeks and try to push the wax out gently and clean up. It was a terrible experience for him, it was painful to him when we had to push the wax and he hated being held. We also felt his mood worsened as the wax built up, meaning he was probably in a bit of constant pain. Eventually after a year of doing the management ourselves, he had to have the same surgery like turbo (it actually took two surgeries, the first one didn't open big enough so still more was built up), luckily after the second surgery he was a much happier bunny, the wax didn't build up further. So fingers crossed for Turbo! Edit: on vet bills, to give you a heads up, dental would be quite costly and I really hope your buns don't have to go through it. But both our late buns (a lop and a Rex) both passed away from dental related issues - if they have an abscess built up usually behind their teeth, that tooth is likely have to be taken out to remove the abscess, and it's fairly random whether they will have another abscess behind another tooth. We didn't have any big vet bills in the first 4-5 years of their lives, then once they are more seen as the senior age we became regulars at the vet, cost quite a few grands and sometime just running diagnosis is expansive. We didn't cut back on any vet appointment, they both passed away because of goddamn long weekends (and the most experienced bun vet was on holiday and other vets didn't want to do the surgery despite us asking for it, then it was too late). We have two young bunnies now I don't think it's worthwhile yet but our plan is to get pet insurance after these guys turn 5. Signs of dental issues: picky and don't want to chew hard hay, sometimes having a hay in the mouth then backing it out because of the pain
Thank you for sharing your story about Augie. I did see a similar thing happened to another bunny I was reading about where they needed a second surgery. You're right, it could still be worth it for us as lops are prone dental issues too..
Great trick to put the medicine on the leaf! I loved when you said "oh god damnit" because it shows that even you, who is so calm, can get frustrated but still handle the bunny with love & care & gentleness
Thank you. This was really helpful. The vet has just suggested this for my bunny. I am booking his CT next week. I go overseas for a month in 3 weeks so really bad timing! It is reassuring you did the injections for a month before his surgery. That is where I am at the moment :) I dont feel so bad waiting until I get home before doing the surgery.
Just came across your video. I'm a huge animal lover, but I don't have bunnies or know too much about them. I really enjoyed this video about your pet babies! It was very well put together and extremely informative! I've just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more of your content.
my lop just had this surgery 2 weeks ago on one of her ears. thanks so much for making this video, it was really helpful especially since i was looking everywhere and not finding a lot on the subject. so many videos exist about spay/neuter surgeries but my own vet told me a lot of people don’t opt for the ear resection & bulla osteotomy surgery because of the cost and it being a more major surgery with long term care involved like the flushing of the wound 2x a day for weeks. I did not have pet insurance and had to pay out of pocket as well, wish i had the foresight to get pet insurance 🥲 now after having a lop and being aware of their abscess problems with their teeth and ears, it’s a good idea that everyone should get pet insurance when they take their bunnies home. glad the surgery worked for turbo and hoping that my bunny has a good long term outcome as well
You have a golf R and buns also! Still trying to bond mine every few months...Thank you for the great videos, I can relate to the expensive rabbit vet bills
Aw poor turbo, it must’ve been such a stressful situation for both you and buns. Bunmi is so sweet for grooming him tho and I’m glad he recovered well. I was also wondering what hay the buns were eating in this video other than the oaten and what stock feed or supplier you get ur hay from?
hello!! Yeah it was very stressful at the time so I'm glad we're out of the woods now and things are going back to normal 😊 I've tried a few different suppliers, the quality really varies. The hay shown in this video is oaten and teff from Kensington produce, as well as oxbow and burgess brands of timothy hay x
I'm sorry for replying to an older video, but I just have to say that your love and care for these bunnies is a wonderful thing to see! I'm so invested in Turbo and Bunmi by watching your videos too ^_^. But I'll stop fangirling for now, haha. Did this experience put you off from wanting to adopt any lop eared bunnies in the future? I'm thinking of adopting Holland lops myself, but I do realize that they are more prone to having ear problems
Is Oxbow Organic Bounty pellets the same as Oxbow Garden Select? do you recommend the garden select? Thanks alot! I love your channel and it is great to see an aussie bunny owner with awesome tips!!!!
hello! the ingredients are different. Organic Bounty has more organic wild ingredients but nutritionally they are very similar and either is fine to feed!
Thanks for the info, I had looked up a few covers for my rabbits but found none that covered rabbits so shall look up the one u said. I had a bunny (Squishy) years ago she had 4 operations on her ear & I had to drain her ear weekly for the rest of her life which she did cope with quite well. Lop bunnies unfortunately are prone to this problem. Hope your bun does ok.
Bless his heart my little three year old english lop 3 yrs has white pus draining out of his ear and they gave me baytril 14 days and he said that its gone about 75 percent but they want him back on it another 2 weeks he really hates taking it and its stressing him.... I sorry yours had to go through all that but glad hes getting well and better.. Mine hates the syringe.
My bunny is having mild external ear infection but I'm considering the surgery as he is sooo young and I want him to have a more comfy life!! Can i ask which vet Turbo did the surgery at?
Hi, my rabbit is due to have the same surgery on both ears next week and wondering the same things you did. Any chance you have a photo of his CT scan?
thanks for this!! its super helpful. could you do a video on the re-bonding process? im trying to bond two rabbits, one is a bit aggressive just like bunmi and i would love to know your advice... i may have to re-bond them in the future as well after a vet appointment.
Thank you soooo much. One of my vets incorrectly dx my bunny w/allergies also he has been scratching ears but they checked his ears and said they looked fine… out of nowhere he had head tilt, nytagmus etc had to take him to the ER and another exotic vet who said it’s likely an inner year infection. He is eating and pooping a lot but has only peed 1x today… he is not interested in water. I keep trying to reach out to my vet and they are not answering I have tried everything do you have any suggestions anyone please
I am so glad that you promote bunny adoption. Is there any way to promote healthy genetics? Lops and pugs are cute but they suffer for this? And we say we love them.
Hello, thanks for making this informative video! I recently adopted a holland lop, so this type of problem is pretty common in their breeds? I just want to be prepared for issues that can come up in the future! Thank you!
poor turbo :(( i hope hes okay and recovers well!! also I'm hoping your wallet can recover too like girl, exotic vets in sydney are not one for the poor. Any vets you know who can do bunny spaying for under 200? i wanna get my bun bun spayed!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us! I've been thinking of getting a bunny and your research and personal experiences are incredibly well thought out, thorough and so so useful :) Hope you're taking care of yourself after all that stress, really appreciate your videos
Thank you for your kind words Amy 🐰❤️

My buns send love back to you! Thank you! 🐰❤️🐰

HAHAHA I was more annoyed at myself for being so uncoordinated with that syringe. I had my chance and I blew it 😆😆😆
Great job with getting him to take the meds!!! I’m learning so much from your videos. Thank you 😃
Brilliant video, Sandy. Your best by far. Your attention to detail and explaining things is outstanding. Love your work, huge fan!

Adding the meloxicam to the leaf… brilliant. I’m going to try that.
Going thru similar stuff. It's a really really difficult time and the heart just breaks for the little ones going through this.
Yay I’m first! Can’t wait to watch 😃 💕 🐰 🐰
Thanks for sharing, i learned a lot from you! Your bunnies are very cute
Thank you Wendy! ❤
You have a golf R and buns also! Still trying to bond mine every few months...Thank you for the great videos, I can relate to the expensive rabbit vet bills
So happy that he is feeling better.
me too, thank you ❤️🐰
Thank you so much for this. Been really having a hard time deciding which is the best option for my bunny with the same condition. 💖
So cute Bunny❤😍🙈🐇🐇

What vet do you go to? I live in the illawarra but I could definitely drive a ways to find a really good vet
Hi, my rabbit is due to have the same surgery on both ears next week and wondering the same things you did. Any chance you have a photo of his CT scan?
Where I live in Canada there's no such thing as Bunny insurance. Not in Ontario anyways 🤔
thanks for this!! its super helpful. could you do a video on the re-bonding process? im trying to bond two rabbits, one is a bit aggressive just like bunmi and i would love to know your advice... i may have to re-bond them in the future as well after a vet appointment.
Sure thing! I have lots of footage of the ups and downs we went through getting them back together haha
Thank you soooo much. omg noooo 😣 you could try contacting your nearest rabbit rescue or joining rabbit owner Facebook groups to ask about reputable rabbit vets near you??
Hello, can you give some tip..video about your bunny litter train
I am so glad that you promote bunny adoption. Is there any way to promote healthy genetics? Lops and pugs are cute but they suffer for this? And we say we love them.
Au, seing his ears after the operation really hurts. The video is great though - detailed and informative. I definitely am against breeding lops
Totally normal for them to eat their bodily secretions lol.. my angel thumper would eat the crusties from his scent glands every single time!
i feel so bad for turbo!!
Hello, thanks for making this informative video! I recently adopted a holland lop, so this type of problem is pretty common in their breeds? I just want to be prepared for issues that can come up in the future! Thank you!
Hello! Yes sadly Holland lops are at higher risk of ear infections and dental issues due to their skull shape.
poor turbo :(( i hope hes okay and recovers well!! also I'm hoping your wallet can recover too like girl, exotic vets in sydney are not one for the poor. Any vets you know who can do bunny spaying for under 200? i wanna get my bun bun spayed!!
