      You're very welcome! I think more people need this stuff but creators are scared to do it because when people screw something up they point fingers if something goes wrong. ( Hens the reason for all the disclaimers😅) but even the budget aside if you can fix it why pay $$$$ to have it done.

      I'm so sorry. I'm a college student and also broke. Took him in from someone and he has 2 large accesses in about a month. One on the neck and one on his upper lip. Poor dude. Checking all the things and cleaning extra good. I feel so bad that this happened because he literally lives indoors. In his own room...lol. I have a 1 bedroom but use it like a studio. He has the bedroom all to himself. What is going onnnnn. Lol. Taking baby steps as he's still not very fond of me flipping him over to shave him. 🥲

    Hi Leah! I am currently having the same problem with my rabbit. In the past I took him to the vet and unfortunately I can’t afford to take him again. I am concerned that he might bleed more since his abscess is a lot bigger than your rabbit. But I will definitely try this out and thank you for making this video, very helpful!

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He probably will and it might be unnerving at first. Make sure to push the lump of infection all the way to the surface before you make the incision. Once you get as much as you can out check it again in a few days to see if you feel a lump again. You may but I find that their body tries to get rid of it and will "push" the infection to the surface.

    Thank you got the content on this video. This is just what I’ve been looking for.
    My house rabbit/mini lop has an abscess. I noticed that the abscess was infecting her ears and discharge is making her ears sore from the abscess. It’s a small ball around the same size as this bunny here who had the incision on this video.
    I took her to the Vets yesterday and they prescribed me antibiotics, ear drops and ear cleaning flush however, the vet said to me its very rare a rabbit naturally heals their abscess or heals their abscess with the mediation either because of how fast their metabolism is.
    I have noticed that she is in pain and a bit more distant with us but she is still wanting her foods and water which is a good sign 😊
    I was absolutely heartbroken last night worried she may pass away. She’s two on the 6th June and I have so many more plans for her to stick around and enjoy her life. I can’t afford the operation at 2000 pounds here in England. The best I can do is love, comfort, ear flushing, ear drops and antibiotics until i saw your video, and I wonder if I could pull this off.
    When it’s an abscess under the ear and its showing signs of infecting both ears with discharge/infection is it too delicate of an area for this?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So what concerns me about is it sounds like your saying there is discharge from the ear as well not just the part with the abscess. The vet is right in saying that they don't heal up infections with just antibiotics. You have to clean it out if you want to get rid of it. They normally have a few months before it goes to the bloodstream. If you're trying to decide if you want to try it yourself as yourself if it's worth the chance of trying and having more time with your rabbit. Or letting it go and probably not making it much past 6 months if you're lucky. It's a hard thing but you have to pull back from your emotions to think logically in order to find the strength to do what needs to be done. If you want to email me pictures you can do that at hello@leah-lynch.com hope that helps.

      It is. You just have to go at it with confidence and don't hesitate when you make the incision. And making the incision a little bigger than the abscess it will not hurt them as much if you aren't trying to cram a lump through too small of a hole. Hope it works out for you.

    First, thank you so much for this! So many bunny parents are stuck on vet visit being the only answer. I have an adopted trio, adopted at about 1 year, have had the 3 boys for 3 years and they're still so skiddish and don't appreciate affection from us humans unless treats are involved of course! But I believe the stress of the vet doing this over myself would be horrible for my guy with the abscess. Also, they'd likely want to anesthetize him to do it, also terrifying but for me! It seems like a 50/50 chance they'll come out of anesthesia.
    I've been treating since the day after I noticed it with oral baytril for last 2 weeks and last night he started scratching at it. Its in the cheek/jaw area about marble sized. This afternoon came home to the horrible smell and saw that it ruptured. Freaked out, then found your video and breathed a sigh of relief!
    Have you ever tried using manuka honey to fill the abscess space? I've gotten it because of reading others stories about using it, but noticed you didn't. Any advice is so appreciated, but just the vid and comments about people doing this successfully have been answered prayers!

    I just found one that seems connected to the lower right jawbone on my 5 yr old holland lop, about the size of a standard marble and very firm with almost no mobility when trying to move it around, would you consider that to be feasible to cut out this way?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Humm, that's a tough one. Considering he is older for a rabbit you have to ask yourself what your options are and what can you live with. If it's not bothering him and your ok with letting it be then do that. If you want it off so the infection doesn't go to his bloodstream but high vet bills arn't and option then maybe consider lavender which is a natural antibiotic. You could feed him about 5 inches of the fresh plant a day for a while or add a teaspoon of dried to his food.

      @MBChic-yl3uz those should work well. If you end up with gunk sticking to it with the antibiotic ointment you could switch to lavender oil. That the main reason I don't use ointment is because EVERYTHING sticks to it. But just watch it and do whatever works for you.

    • @LeahLynchBlog

      If you can do it quick then you probably don't need the numbing spray but if it takes more time to clean out it helps keep the fuss from the rabbit down. I have big strong rabbits so it's as much for me as it is for them😅 and no I don't sow it up. Most times you have to clean it a second time so it heals from the inside out. hi Leah, thankyou for making this video. i had the inclination that i could deal with this on my own, so thankyou for helping to confirm this. i wasnt sure what the lump was at first, but now having researched, it is beneath his chin and also, looks as though that it is trying to push itself out on its own anyhow, which makes me pretty sure that it is, in fact, an abcess. i would be nervous to take him to the vet, regardless as, i have heard a few stories where the bunnies didnt wake up from anesthesia...this was in a case where they were being neutering etc...i dont want to scare anyone, but i do wantoo relay what i had heard from a few bunny owners in my life. so for whatever the case may be, please do research. as ,from what i understand it depends on the vertenarian. anyhow, i was of the inclination that i could remove this myself and so , thankyou for the video and information from others. it does help. if more people were honest and worked together and it wasnt a matter of money, we would get more truths out there so people could make better decisions, and of their own accord. however, i do see, the rreeason for proceeding with caution, as at times it may be ego and money, but also, vetrinaris also just want to make sure that every animal is getting cared for properly. (and, yes, it doesnt help, when money is involved, and because of this, you are perhaps getting a mixture of truths as well as intentions when dealing with expensive vetrinarians....just wanted to mention all of this, becasue, i know that anyone here, is trying to make the best decision, and as humans are very much able to be capable and cometant enough to take certain this upon themselves to do, it is always about ;researching, conferring with others, (as well as staying humble) so that we all may be able, to make those best decisions as we can, in the best interest of our fur babies. (another note, to learn from others, whom have a long time working with any species of animals, is a great thing to share, as, things such as thing, where, it does, to my percetion, appear common and if done, carefully as well as correctly, is something someone who is careful and well researched capable and assured of themselves, (especially if well versed and experienced with animals and being outside/working with nature etc.(such as our ancestors of the past, having to have to learn on their own how to deal with such things (pioneers, natives etc.) as it was, the wilderness back then, or farmlands...so, this is, important, to still know what, we are all capable of doing, on our own, for our loved ones, animals (safely) just to keep ourselves aware. (especially, i am more at ease, seeing how you have handled it, how others have commented, as well as, that this is a common issies, and,;this is precisley why this sort of communication and commenting, conferring as well as videos is so helpful, valuable and important, so that we might learn to provide and handle things ourselves, if it is not so serious, but alos, in light of (and until) mainstream society figures out how to utilize money that benefits all, verses being a means too keep us oppressed, and struggling...) so, anyhow, i just needed to say these things, but, as far as my bunny goes, im going to researcch more, but it DOES look like it is pushing itself to the surface, (before it was asmall circle of a lump and fur, but not , dried sort of blood/scab(under chin)...im pretty sure, from thee info, that its an abcess now (from how common and the placement sounds) (i was concerned that it was a tumour, but now having researched, and the fact that it seems to be pushing itself out, it if acting as these ancesses sound(does that sound right to you ms. Leah?)(thankyou, so much, ahead of time, and once again for the video, to show us how, and that it is possible, with care, and in light of your years of humble bunny care knowledge and experience. thankyou.appreciate you. herbal medicine is something that i had educated myself in through classes, books etc (another EXTREMELY VALUABLE way of, our ancestors, nature the earth the past (& getting REAL KNOWLEDGE< back intoo the hands and minds of the people) but, besides the lavender oil(which is really great for A LOT of things related to skin infections and health friends (please research it) but was wondering, if there were any other herbs or holistic things that you have implemented or found useful? i grow yarrow, and the dried or poulticed leaves were traditionally used to stop bleeding in soldiers, i just wanted to mention that for everyone learning about such things (boyscouts use and keep dried yarrow leaves in their first-aid kits) im just wondering what you think about that (although, i know that quick stop is used (as my mother is a retired petco groomer) for successfully stopping nail bleeding incase someone trims an animals nails, but gets to close to the *quick* (the vein that goes into the nail that one must be very careful to avoid when trimming animals nails (god forbid, always praying that we are all carefully~perfect~as~possible~truly~

      Yes I have done this countless times over my 20 years of raising rabbits. With this buck specifically I had to clean it one more time probably two days later but after that he was good. It's almost like the final amount of puss came to the surface and I could get it all. If even the smallest amount of infection is left inside it will fill up again. It's best to check it every day to keep it from going back to the beginning size. There are some easy ones and some that har harder.

I am wondering if I can do this plus antibiotics and/or deworming meds (not sure how to tell if it’s from infection or parasite). Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is an infection like an abscess it would be a VERY firm lump under the skin and often times the fur is still there you rarely know that it's there on the surface unless you see the bulge or feel it. I would treat whichever one is worse first. If she really does need wormed then keep her away from any other rabbits you have. If you don't let rabbits on the ground you won't ever have to deal with pests.

    Hi I have come across your vid
    It’s very encouraging
    I’ve kept bunnies for around 25 years
    I’ve sorted lots probs out and things have healed well
    I have a small lop bunny aged around 3/4
    He has a hard lump on his top jaw just below his nose
    He is eating fine & perfectly fine at mo
    However it has increased in size and I’m sure I could do this procedure myself
    Just need to ask after when there is a hole
    What do I need to give him?
    Will he be in pain ?
    After the numbing spray wears off ?
    Does it heal without anything else you put in vid film
    I have a vet appointment on Tuesday but I keep thinking I could try this myself
    Thanks in advance

      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could definitely try it yourself. I would put some kind of antibiotic on it to help heal but with it being in the mouth I wouldn't bother with the numbing spray. It probably wouldn't work( if it is on inside of the month) he probably poked his mouth on a toy or something in the cage.

    How do you know if it's an abscess or a tumor? I found a bunny and I guess he's living here now because we haven't found his parents, or he was disposed of. But he had a giant lump on his back. He's isn't fixed either.

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      An abscess is WAY more common. If they get the smallest poke or broken skin it's probably 80% likely to get that ball of infection under the skin. It's worth seeing if you can clean it out before it goes to the blood stream.

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awe man. I have never heard of one in the intestines. I've only delt with external ones. As far as how it happened the rabbit probably ate something it shouldn't. Fabrics and things in the house are deadly to rabbits. If it chewed on something wood that could explain the intestine injury. So sorry you have to deal with it.

      You can try treating her internally with rabbit-safe natural antibiotics… grapefruit seed extract, apple cider vinegar, echinacea, etc. Also, NHV pet supply has vets on staff that offer free consultation. Felimm and turmeric have been reccomended to us.

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So Definitely keep an eye on the area. You might find that you missed some of the infection and you might feel another lump after 24hrs. This is when you want to stay consistent and remove the scab and work out the remaining infection. It actually gets easier because the body seems to push the infection out so often if you have to go back a second time you should be good to go. After that just make sure it is healing. Adding lavender oil on it for a day or two after doesn't hurt either.

My metsi has a bit of a lump in that area , and I read online it's more likely to be a tumor in there ?( it doesn't help im paranoid and always expect the worst 😅)I know can't get a medical diagnosis here but any personal experiences would be appreciated thanks 😊

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can work the lump to the surface where it doesn't feel like there is anything between the lump and the skin externally I would give it a try.

    Thank you SO much for making this video, I've been so stressed out lately with my little bun & his reoccurring abscess. The vet I've been taking him too did not communicate a lot of very important information that I was able to learn from your video. Do you happen know if it's true that some abscesses cannot be surgerically removed? My vet popped his abscess both times with a needle and let it drain, never shaved the area, didn't tell me how I could keep it clean, even forgot to give him an injection for the pain, told me as I was heading out "Oh wait! I forgot to give him an injection for his pain." & this is the 2nd time in 3 months that I go to her to have the abscess "taken care of" for $300 each visit.

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't met one yet that I wasn't able to remove. So no I don't think that's true. The draining thing won't work because the consistency is too thick. I have gotten some out that are extremely hard and this guy's was one of them. I did have to go back a second time with this buck but after that he was fine. It's almost like you have to tell their body. Hey send the infection this way and after the first time opening the abscess it's a lot easier.

    Hi Leah, My eight year old rabbit recently discovered the same problem. Her abscess is larger. I would like to ask if the abscess comes again after extrusion, can it be removed again on the wound? Should I remove it at once when I find an abscess comes back(even if it's small) or should I wait several days to reduce the frequency of extrusion for better recovery?I saw several posts online that rabbits who went to the hospital for treatment almost died within 3 months after surgey caused by sudden loss of appetite and heart failure, which they speculated was due to recurring infections and injected anti-inflammatory drugs.I am really worried, she is part of my life for eight years and I cried all night. I am really worried. Please help me. Thank you.(My English is not very good, I used a translator, hope my sentences are not rude, thank you again)

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's very possible for it to come back and most likely it's because there was a small amount left in there that can be hard to see. When I have to work on one I check it every day and clean it out again and add more lavender essential oils to it until it heals up with a nice red scab and no creamy color to it.

      @yobrooo1830 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, does warm water help abscesses in any way?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. You need the essential oil to be an antibiotic or an antibacterial to do what it needs to they aren't all the same. 2. Bandages don't stop infection, the blood stop gel does best for getting the bleeding to stop. But it does nothing for infection. 3. And of course their is risks. There always is. But it's either you pay a vet to do it or if you don't do it at all the infection can get into the bloodstream and eventually kill the rabbit.....

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean to soften the abscess with the water... Not really. I tried that in the early days and they are often to hard to even mix with the water. And it's and extra step and time that's not needed. The rabbit is going to be a lot happier if you just do it quickly, clean out the infection, add the antibiotics and be done.
