    If one is not comfortable putting assets in a charity where the board controls them, they could make a foundation to own the building, land, whatever and a separate charity to operate it.

    I have a 16 year old son that has a severe intellectual disability. He's non verbal and needs quite a bit of daily care including bathing, feeding, changing poops, etc.... When I die, he'll be in the care of the State. The state pays minimum wage to people who would care for my son after I'm gone. I want to start a non profit or foundation for parents like me that are absolutely terrified of what will happen to our children when we're gone because we're not rich. I teach 5th grade so I make nothing. I wrote both the governor's office and my state senator and have gotten no response. Please help me! Donovan

    • @Ashlee_Tate
      @Ashlee_Tate  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Donovan, I think you should start a TH-cam channel or a blog and start educating people about the dangers of how this works, create awareness and create your tribe with others who feel the same then start focusing on changing legislation. Baby steps! You can do this immediately without starting a nonprofit. That can come later when you have a solution working alongside other parents

    So for now I want to feed the homeless once a month or every other week. Of purse as time goes on I’ll do more. But what’s the best non profit approach here ?
    Also I’m doing this because I pay way too much for taxes. So I’m looking to those benefits as well.
    Thank you

      Best way is to just start! You can start with a fiscal sponsor or as your own nonprofit with my Start your nonprofit in 30 days course at unleashyourpurpose.thinkific.com
      As a caveat, it doesn’t directly help with personal taxes. It helps your donors that give to the organization. Just wanted to clarify… let us know how things go!

    So what's my best course of action if I want to donate from a business I own to a foundation I run...my goal is to run my business and donate to my charitable organization instead of handing it over as taxes so the government can misappropriate it....so when I take the winter off I can fund humanitarian endeavors myself...I feel like I'd be able to help more people then my government will tbh...plus all employees would also be donating to it and help....

    • @Ashlee_Tate
      @Ashlee_Tate  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can donate from your business just like donating to any other organization. Just be sure that they are in separate accounts and going from one separate account to the other. With receipts and all.

    So I got my articles of incorporation last year & soon after i received a credit card application under the articles of incorp name. Can I open that credit card up under the name before I make it to 501c3 status? also too will this affect my personal credit score if i do so?

    • @Ashlee_Tate
      @Ashlee_Tate  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Frenchie! Congratulations girl!!! I honestly would not open any credit cards for your nonprofit. They will send them to you just like they send you personal ones. Opening a credit line under somethiing that is so in flux is potentially disastrous. I would just focus on raising funds and moving forward that way! Rip it up, shred it and throw it away. And yes anything you do under the nonprofit related to credit will affect your personal credit.

    Ashlee if I wanted to start a nonprofit would you recommend to enroll as LLC or corporation? I

    • @Ashlee_Tate
      @Ashlee_Tate  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Keny, personally I always recommend a corporation. While I don’t have a legal answer for you because I’m not a lawyer, my understanding is that 1. It’s most common to be a nonprofit corporation in the eyes of the irs and 2. I only know of llc’s as pass through entities. Lastly, my understanding is that all members of an LLC must be tax exempt organizations in order to form a nonprofit llc. Definitely fact check this one! After a quick search this is what I found from the nonprofitlawblog.com “While technically, there is no such thing as a nonprofit LLC in the vast majority of states (Minnesota, Tennessee, and Kentucky being notable exceptions), there are tax-exempt LLCs, and these entities are commonly referred to as “nonprofit limited liability companies” or “nonprofit”
      They just aren’t we’ll known and I’ve personally not seen or heard of one! If anyone else has anything to add let me know! I’ll have to make a video on this though!
