I am a Certified Veterinary Technician & have been in vet med for 23 years. ALL hospitals should let owners visit at some point during the day. It’s better for the owner and improves healing & mentation in the patient (pet).

I lost my precious Buster 2 years ago Nov 26th 2021.He had to be put down suddenly two days before Thanksgiving. He had a Saddle Thrombus, fine up untill it happened. Was totally devastated by his loss. His loss has been my biggest loss in my lifetime. I have lost both my parents and a sibling, he was my guardian angel 😇 and now he is a true angel 😇. I can't wait to see him again at the Rainbow Bridge .I have had two kittys pass before him and have two new kittys now .And I don't think I will ever feel that connection again in my lifetime.

I’m so glad Fergie is home! I take low dose antibiotics everyday for my autoimmune arthritis. Antibiotics can act as an anti-inflammatory. I have no idea if this is the case with Fergie, but some antibiotics do in fact regulate the immune system. No one, animal or human wants to live on antibiotics, but some of us need to, to live a happy and healthy life! Good job, Ferguson! ♥️

I just found your videos starting with Chloe, the paralyzed kitten and now Ferguson whom I feel a kindred spirit with! I had renal failure when I was 12 which started with a kidney pelvis infection. It took the months to figure out what was wrong with me. Finally one physician figured it out and I was put on an experimental medication versus dialysis. They asked my parents if they were willing to let me try the meds and they were a huge success! I feel for Ferguson so much and he's the cutest boy! I love you guys doing what you do! It heals my heart when I see so much cruelty in the world. You're a very special group of amazing human beings and I'm so proud to see your work and care. Thank you! Thank you for eveything!😻😻😻❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇

I teared up many times during this, because its so eerily similar to our case😭
My 1 year old kitten got in hospital with 13.57 creatinine levels, and very high BUN, and IV wasnt doing anything for days, they were like lets try antibiotics, even though there's no sign of infection... It worked😭 he went down to 3.3, so he could come home. By now he is 1.7 and i am so grateful to have this baby back😭♥️
I wonder why antibiotics work this way for kidneys with no apparent infection, but weirdly high values🤔 because apparently it happens. I really wish there was a study done about this!

My cat has stage 1 CKD and has stayed at that point for three years because he is also taking a monthly antibiotic for a tooth. He is elderly and has a heart murmur and a funky tooth. We are avoiding sedation so the tooth stays and the antibiotic is treatment for it. I do think that the antibiotic is what is keeping his illness from progressing. He will turn 15 in two months and hopefully old age will take him peacefully before his CKD progresses.

    • @tethergobrrr
      @tethergobrrr ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Erin-unsalted I made so many excuses to keep my kidney patient cat on antibiotics after the vet who recommended them for life retired. I would be angry about my inability to keep it going and the subsequent progress of her disease if her health wasn’t swamped by several other conditions by the time she passed at 21. There is definitely something in this antibiotic/kidney thing even though it’s not fully understood.

That "little moment" of Fergie's Momma throwing the Clavamox idea into the wind. Allowed this to turn into a bigger moment. The moment Fergie got to go home and be with his momma. There was nothing little about what you did, or said. Or what those amazing doctors did or said. YOU worked together as a team, and once again saved that baby. Based on a hunch, or intuition, your gut feeling or whatever you want to call it. You guys saved him for the bigger moments. I am so happy Fergie is still here, teaching us all new things.

Ms. K.L. I had a cat that had kidney failure several years ago, and I think that we were doing this dialysis at home. The vet trained us to use small Lactated Ringer bags full of fluid ( saline? ) , with a line attached to a slender needle that we inserted in the tented skin, ( sub -Q ) in the back of her neck. It was a painless procedure, it took only about 15 min. and she sat on the kitchen counter while we did it. She was a persnickety kitty but while we did this, she was always calm and she didn't seem to mind. We took her in every couple weeks to the vets to get her BUN rate and her numbers were good and held steady......and she lived another 2.5 years with us doing this for her. I am not sure if this would even apply to Fergie, but I wanted to tell you about this...this was a very easy procedure, and it really made a difference in her life. She made it to 18.

39:57 I get the impression from this and the Instagram live video that Hannah already knows there's going to be diminishing returns for keeping Fergie on Clavamox / broad spectrum antibiotics. It's good to know it's somehow helping to balance Fergie's kidneys microbiome, but it would be good to get a better understanding of how it does so (without harming him in the process of learning). We have to remember that the necropsy of his poor sister was something that brought a lot of clarity into what was going on in Fergie, and informed the vets' advice to get him on antibiotics when he was still baby.
It's good to hear that they're talking to researchers about furthering research into kidney disease in cats. Perhaps Fergie's 'bonus life' has a purpose; to bring about better outcomes in kidney care for cats, and maybe even other species as well.

Ferguson’s case reminds me of something I read at university. I did a little bit of research into an unusual genus of bacteria called mycoplasma. These are much smaller and far more difficult to detect, but can be sensitive to generic antibiotics. But what I learned from the literature was that there’s a lot of bacteria out there that we know so little about, and we can’t grow in cultures - it’s actually a really small percentage of bacteria that we can successfully culture. So even if you have a negative bacterial culture, it doesn’t mean there’s no infection - it’s just as possible there’s an infection with a bacteria we just can’t grow in the lab. It certainly makes diagnosis so much harder.
Whatever the case with Ferguson, I’m glad you’ve found something that works and he’s home again!

I have a 3 month old kitten going through very similar kidney issues and we have not yet found the cause. During his multi day stay in an emergency hospital, his kidney values were through the roof as was his potassium. As a result of the pot being so high, he was having arrhythmias and eventually neurological signs! We almost lost him but he turned the corner thanks to the amazing care he received. We have no idea going forward what to expect as it was not a toxic exposure and more likely malformed kidneys (we have not been able to get an ultrasound yet) people kept sending me your videos about fergie thank you for making them as there is no information about this online! I worked with my vet AND farrier a lot on my horse's feet to ultimately get them back to normal after half a lifetime of them being wrong. It's complicated and this is not the place for this discussion but it IS relevant. My vet and farrier were a pair of those brilliant minds of which you speak and a formidable wall of knowledge. However, when it came to a horse's feet, they ALWAYS said ir was the triangle of care than made the whole difference. They were each an important point on the triangle of care but the owner/caretaker was the most important corner of all. They are the one with the history/timeline and they know when something's wrong or right the most sometimes. Even if they don't necessarily know the proper terminology/words, they know things. Kudos to the vet(s) that let your voiced observation of the past count. It's true they know lots of things that you may not ever fully understand and they know what usually/logically solves the issue and in the face of defeat they heard you! In the end, you were, once again, his best advocate!

Then I noticed discharge... took her to the vet, she had a 104.5 fever and was "the healthiest cat near death" the vet had ever seen. Also had the biggest pyometra he'd ever seen (SPAY EARLY, like right away, you wouldn't think a year-old cat would be at risk, she just hadn't been spayed YET). She come through with flying colors, and is five years old now.

I also had a fur baby with said kidney issues. She was 16 when we said “see ya later” to each other. She was my everything, every day, all the time. Salt was a no go so it was looking at the ingredients of her food and we only gave her filtered rain water. She went into the clinic regularly and antibiotics was also the best stabilizer. Punkie never had a bad life with us and she was so so loved. Never doubt your love as the best remedy. Love really carries kids like Fergie far.

He's such an amazing little cat and a proper miracle on four legs - I was surprised at how big he's got too since I last saw him. He should have a book written about him. 💖

I am so happy that Fergie is home. I am so emotional invested in this baby. Everytime I see a notification for him I tear up because I'm afraid. Too many times I have cried on the bus on my way to work. You are such a great human being. Thank you for being you and for Fergie updates. GO FERGIE GO!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

I’m so incredibly happy he’s home with his favorite humans! I completely get what you mean about it being hard to give up control of taking care of him and making sure he’s okay, I’m the exact same way. I’m so glad you were able to get him in some of the best possible hands. Sending you, Andrew, Fergie, and all the other critters so much love 💜

So happy you're sweet Ferguson is home with his loving family again! Hannah, you are the reason this sick kitty is alive! You've also made his life worth living! You're a phenomenal kitty-mama! I knew it when I first saw you several years ago and began following you! I've learned so much from you that your lessons have enriched my relationship with my very anxious and formally feral cat. I don't have the words to thank you or to show my admiration for you!
You're a special soul and so is Andrew. Thank you both for your amazing contribution to the lives of kittens and cats (&cat lovers) everywhere! Much love being sent your way!

I foster elder and fospice cats. I have a lovely boy with kidney disease right now, an orange boy just like your Fergie, but 14 years old. And take it from me: It's going to be okay. That overwhelmed feeling at all the elder-cat medical stuff you're going through with Fergie--that fades. You learn. You become steadily more and more competent. You learn from your mistakes. You're going to do exactly what little Fergie needs, I can tell. I don't know how long he has, and I don't suppose anyone knows; but the time he has is going to be happy and loved and free of pain, just as it should be.
