Just an individual video I took of one of Great Western's brand new class 800, Hitachi IEP's seen passing non-stop through Didcot Parkway at full speed, 125mph! With the 15:29 from Swansea to London Paddington.

So smooth even though speeding!! Great capture indeed!
Hello from India!
This is diesel power as well since the pantographs aren’t up
And if you listen closely on some coaches you can hear the diesel motors passing by
110 at the very least! First footage I've seen of a class 800 at speed since it entered service 2 weeks ago
I do love these, striking looking train, shame they are replacing my HSTs
They are still around in Scotland and some are now a shuttle Cornwall train
IET SUCK
@@CurvedGD Why do they suck, striking looking trains and more modern.
They are falling apart
@@Great_WesternTVFan Also Cross country,Glasgow to Plymouth.
hi can i use a little bit of this video in my intro i will give you all credit
Now that's fizzy, I feel the need, the need for a carbonated refreshment.
how many are in operation now
They look nice. are they still using the HSTs by any chance
Yes and they intend to carry on using some.
still going to carry on with HSTs,what rouites?
XC HST will carry on but EMT,Virgin East coast and GWR HSTsare going to be scrapped.
How many speed in class800? I'm from Japan.
125 mph which is 201 km/h.
They can go 225 km/h but we would need ATC signalling to allow that.
Is it bad the new train is split in the midde unlike the hst just one continuous train?
I think not, cause it makes the train dividible and if one part fails, another can continue carrying passangers. Plus this allows for more flexibility on not-very-demanding routes.
2 shorter trains together makes 1 longer train. 10 coaches is more than 8.
There are 5-car versions and 9-car versions of this.
Whys it running on diesel power when its under the wires it should be raising its pantograph and helping the environment
Because the wires aren't finished yet and need testing
Why is it running on diesel under the wires?
It wasn't live yet
Like the video very much.Take care.
That isn't full speed. They can go much faster if they are on electric power (125 on the gwml), and even faster (140mph) if they have ECTS.
But if they run up to 140MPH, then an emergency brake will be accidentally apply
@@Great_WesternTVFan not if they are on ECTS signalling
Are they running to Penzance every day yet or just occasionally?
802s have a proper diesel engine with more fuel.
every hour the class 800s leave penzance for london.
It’s not at full speed though because line speed is only 125mph
The maximum operating speed for these trains is 125... So therefore its at full speed.
Train_PlaneHub I thought they could do 140
dennis trident william they can
Train_PlaneHub it's not full speed of the trains are 140mph, it's at maximum line/operation speed, not full speed by the trains capability.
Big Poch they will be permitted to do 140mph (I think) when they fit the new cab software into them.
Thank you
British Rail Class 800 was started in 2016.
no in October 2017 it came in service but was in testing from 2015.
i swear every time i see one its 2 joined up
Yes. But nowadays, especially during rush hours, they use 9 car trains all in one piece, no joints. But due to lockdown and higher tiers, most will be 5 cars and not joint
That is very fast! Faster than a Pendolino and about the same speed or faster than a 395!
GBRfan 66 I don't think they go faster than Javelins
Limited to 125mph o/s HS1, but could do 140mph there. They are relatives of the Javelin.
Silent Hunter They are the similar because of the same company but if the 395s were bi-modes, how fast could they run? These IEPs go up to 140mph under electric
GBRfan 66 nope. The Javelin Hitachi is named the "Olympic" hs1. And Olympic stuff are fast. They run 140 mph and it's more are flow. Bit like Japanese Shape. And Pendolino Runs 130 mph so nope.
The Great Eastern Trainspotter javelins are very very fast. It runs quite fast as the German "bullet" train.
I wish the Trains were longer because they would look better
That train is really quiet
In marcia a trazione diesel ...perchè?
Perché l'elettricità non è stata ancora accesa
IEP???? Thought it was called IET
IEP - intercity express programme. When they were new, when this was filmed they were often referred to as IEP’s. Obviously they’re more commonly known now as IET’s
Me when karolina walks close to me
I thought the diesel power only go as fast as 100mph on these?
No during testing it was. But now in operation they can do 125 on both diesel & electric. They need to be doing 125 to keep to the timings of the HST.
Oh I see. Are these allowed to run up to 140mph on the GWML or is it limited 125mph like the HST?
presumeably limited to 125 apart from maybe on test as no incab signalling
That limitation was lifted when they came into service, it was an electronic limitation
Over 125mph requires in-cab signalling which is only installed on high speed 1.
It’s 802
The train ..not...using...electric..power..
the 100mph limitation was a stunt by railway enthusiasts to make them look bad, they aren't limited they can do 125mph on diesel.
Hitachi probably asked if they could make an electric train and Network Rail said no
The overhead lines weren’t ready at the time of recording
I can honestly say that these new trains are abismal. They don't ride as well as an HST, they are more expensive to run ( and buy) they have less seats, and need double the amount of staff if they are to run them in doubles.
Typical rose tinted love for the HST. It was great but the community needs to grow up and move on.
Lubdhak Das 140mph actually
@@gilesscanlon2586 they can't run up to 140MPH, other wise an unexpected emergency brake will apply
Great_Western 2020 how do you know that ?
@@gilesscanlon2586 xm3 told me
no pantographs up so max speed 100mph
Not true class 800's can do 125mph on both diesel and electric. 100 mph max speed on diesel is a myth!
that was a limitation for testing so many people are confused about this but that was only for testing they are fully 125mph on diesel in service.
Isaac O when the wires are not up, they run 100mph. But when they are up and in service, there diesel mode is 125 mph. And on electric mode, they run 128 mph to 130mph
ON diesel its 110MPH.
@@celovity_747 diesel is 125mph, it had to be capable of doing so and there's proof of them running at 125mph on diesel, in fact this video shows it!
Worlds worst height speed train
Agreed
Pacers and the seats of the 700s: aM I A jOkE tO yOu??
I said HIGH SPEED
It's not though is it? The class 43 "high" speed train is. The world's slowest diesel train...
