If this video helped you, you can support the creation of more such videos with a *SUPER THANKS* 🙌❤ IMPORTANT: Solution 6: A few of you mentioned that this video didn't solve their problem and I looked at the documents and saw what the issue was. When you have an image on the following page, that is anchored to the paragraph which starts on the previous page, then this image will drag the paragraph (or part of the paragraph) with it onto the next page. To solve this, you will either have to move the anchor of that image to the next paragraph, or simply move the image itself further down a bit. Like that, you release the connection between the image and the paragraph and that image won't pull large chunks of text with it!
I appreciate you walking through all of these steps because every other video and Microsoft information for fixing this problem did not fix it. The kept saying it was a page break problem but my problem was not that it was actually in the layout section that you described at the very end where it was not lining up to the top of the page it was set to center. THANK YOU!
I'd like to take my hat off to you and thank you very much. No other video covered this issue. The 5 different reasons gave my issue an actual chance at being addressed. Of course, it was option number 5. But thanks a ton. This was breaking concentration for weeks now.
Thank you for making this video. I didn’t see my issue in this video but was able to solve it because of this video. There was a large space between the text and the footnotes. This was solved by clicking on the layout tab, and then clicking on the arrow in the page setup section. From there, simply change the number in the footer section. Thank you again! I likely would not have discovered this without the help of your video.
Your last suggestion, vertical alignment, caused a large mysterious white space to appear on a document I was working on. I could not believe that setting when I found it. Thank you for this methodical video which helped me catch a problem I spent a long time trying to figure out.
Very very useful video..I have removed all the video I watched earlier about this problem..and I kept only yours and subscribed..really, thank you for this clearly explained video. Greetings from Algeria, an Arabic country.
Very useful context! None of those helped my case though, because what I finally discovered happened was that I had 2 footnotes close in text to each other with large text in each, so word didnt fit both on the same page and split my text instead to put each footnote on different pages. I had to place one of the footnote texts inside the main text. Thank you anyways!
You were so thorough with your explanation🙏🏻 however I am still struggling with space at the end of the pages :(( … the text just does not end at the same level in every page, I checked everything you mentioned but everything was in place… i don’t know what to do anymore😩 it’s not like gaps or huge spaces, it’s subtle as if the program tries to keep paragraphs together in the same page as much as possible. It does not do that with every single paragraph tho, some paragraphs are broken fine to end at the margin and continue in the next page while others are not, and so i have pages ending 1 or 2 lines earlier than the end of the margin and it’s driving me crazy 😩😩😩 any idea how to solve this?🙏🏻
That might be due to Widow/orphan control (in the advanced paragraph settings). Also, keep in mind that it's tricky to have each and every page end at the same vertical position. This would only work, if you don't have any paragraph spacings and if all the lines have the same font size (so no headings in between).
thanks for the video, unfortunately, still unable to solve my problem, and I have watched several videos, read several articles on how to fix, and still unable to fix my specific issue or figure out what caused it all of a sudden...
Hi Karen, I posted a 6th solution in the comment section. If this still doesn't help you, feel free to send the document over -> youtube@leonrenner.com.
Hi! Someone add me a word file which was changed my cursor to starting bottom of the page... and when i open a new document, the cursor starts also at the bottom of the page instead of at the top like and should and if i press enter, no additional page adds. I startig to write and lines goes up, not down. What happen? Can you help? Thank you!
Sounds to me like your vertical alignment is set to bottom of the page (one of the topics in the video). And since this also happens when you start a new document, this setting is likely implemented in Normal.dotx file, so you'll need to change it there.
I've checked all the paragraph options you outlined but still have the problem with the random page break. I'm at my wits end! No boxes are ticked in the "paragraph options" box. Any suggestions?
I have a serious problem can you please help I am working in a book and the problem I am having is that there is a gap between the text at the end of a page and the footnotes. How can I remove this gap? Thank you
Could be multiple things. Maybe a too large footer, maybe something in the footer settings (th-cam.com/video/H1EbUAqVH-M/w-d-xo.html), maybe something else.
No. You didn't say how to get rid of a large gap that happens after I insert a picture and try to wrap the text. When I do that, it makes a page break above the picture, when I am using MS Word online (the free version).
I don't belive that choosing text wrapping will insert a page break. Maybe you will see additional space but I still don't believe that Word will insert an actual page break. And in case you are only talking about additional space, please see my pinned comment where I explained what can happen with images.
Great suggestings, but sadly this did not help my situation. I have a paragraph that continues onto the next page, but an unreasonable amount of space is left on the earlier page. I checked each of your suggestions, but none applied.
@@kathleenspracklen6849 When you open the header & footer area, any chance that "Different First Page" is activated? If yes, what changes if you deactivate it?
@@LeonRenner Thank you for continuing to work with me on this. I turned off "different first page" and the only impact what adding a page number and page header to the first page (as expected). Page 29, the problem page, was not impacted. I also noticed that "different odd and even pages" was checked. So I tried unchecking that. The result was to toss many of my graphics around into strange places on the pages, but it had no impact on Page 29. (I hope that turning odd and even back on will realign my graphics, but I somehow doubt it. The document is 70 pages in total length.) Thanks for your efforts.
Well, turning "different first page on" converted my cover page into Page 1 of the document. (Sigh.) And my former page 1 now has my even page header. I think I'll revert to my last backup copy.
Nice clear video but absolutely none of that solved the problem. I am using styles and in one or two places in the document it absolutely refuses to put the paragraph under the heading.
Any chance this happens when images are somewhere nearby? If not, feel free to send me your doc at youtube@leonrenner.com. I’m always interested in new reasons why something like this could happen.

I just don't understand why the hell would they put gaps like thats it is not necessary at all lol and should not be the default
Typically this isn't default. In case every document of yours has these "quirks", you might want so implement the changes in the Normal.dotm file

Yes too large footer!
None of these are causing the gap, I've followed all instructions and I still have a gap I cannot get rid of. Have you encountered any other reasons?
