- Performance TEST issue? - How the Vango F10 Radon UL1 Held Up in Extreme Weather!
I recently ventured into the breath-taking Galtee Mountains for a wild camping trip, eager to put my new Vango Radon F10 UL1 to the test. From the moment I set up the tent, I was met with brutal winds that pushed the Vango to its limits. The gale-force gusts exposed a few performance issues I hadn’t anticipated. Here is my first-hand experience with the Vango Radon F10 UL1 in the rugged mountain weather and what you might want to consider before using it on your own wild camping adventures.

It didn’t do too bad Martin! As you said, pitch direction affected it greatly. I’m in agreement - the ‘inner first’ naysayers don’t get out often enough!! 😂
I love the color though. Wish more tents were a nice dark color like that for stealth camping in Ireland.
What a test mate, pretty exciting stuff! Those high sides seem to be a bit of a down side, but as you say it didn’t rip which is good. Saying that I would be disappointed given they have branded it as their Force10 range. What’s the wee camera you use, looks neat!? Brilliant video as usual, thanks for sharing!
Another great video pal. Great walk on a beautiful mountain. A walk made all the more exciting with that wind. So much fun. Up the Lanshan!!!!!
I recently bought the Vango F10 Nexus UL.. I chose it partly because the side poles also go all the way to the ground.. Definitely a more hunkered down design.. Yet to test in strong wind though.. Subscribed.. A down to earth Irish man does the job well..!
I have a Radon 1 and bought it to use as a lightweight summer tent. I have a Helm compact two if I feel the weather will be bad. That being said its good to know that the Radon 1 is not good in very windy weather. Thank you for sharing
Brilliant video Martin.Like yourself I like the look of this Radon F10 but opted for a similar Wechsel Exogen1 which I've just erected in the garden and im chuffed with. Its slightly heavier and narrower but solid with a fully crossing centre pole so stronger structure.Ive got it as my only inner pitch 1st tent to keep separate when wet for WHW.Inner is also water resistant
Great video, I'd be very disappointed with the tent and how it performed in that wind. It would be hard to have any confidence in that tent again. But let's see what other adventures bring..
Looking forward to a review on the poles and that front pouch
Great video again. Sad to see the radon 1 didn't perform quite as expected! Will reserve judgement until I see a few more videos
Your still not selling camping to me .Day hiking the best hobby ever .Stay safe Martin .
Great video Martin, a windy one. Love watching ❤❤
If you had angled the tent so that the wind was hitting it head on, I'd have been more confident in it. Good seeing you back out again man, great video.
I've got this tent and it's been good in line with the wind, I might try and do a video, although this tent doesn't seem popular at all....
@@Chilternwildcamper yeah, Vango's are usually a no go
I'd be disappointed with the tent collapsing like that.
I have a Northern Lite 2, which also uses trekking poles to brace its transverse brow pole. On that the pole goes inside the vestibule, point downwards (digging into the ground), handle upwards (in a little pocket). I angle the poles so they support the vestibule fly fabric, and they've been rock solid, even when I got caught out by constant wind of 60mph.
Another great video Martin, keep them coming
Hi great filming and a warning to always put my Vango Radon 1 in line with the wind. I was out in strong wind in the Peaks last week tent was fine as had it foot to the wind. It hardly gets wet if pitch in light rain, I love that tent for summer but tbh I have my Helm 1 for mountain tops!
Nice one Martin, great video! On the tent I think it held well, strong wind and no tear or break, centre pole moved to an area it could hold.
Take it you didn't do a video for Tom Crean lol, the visibility was horrendous that day. Best Regards
Ross
To be fair to the tent, pitching in its optimum direction to the wind might have helped, but it doesnt seem to be designed for that speed of wind. I do think the Lanshan would have coped better.
Great video I was freezing
That’s some valley the wind is coming up and hitting you side on, mountain tent , don’t know about that one
For midges, the Smokin' Midge works for me. It looks ridiculous (a cross between a tin of travel sweets and an incense burner) but has worked too often to be a coincidence.
I saw a trick where someone used some guy rope with little loops for the end of the poles, they just ran it round from pole to pole then tied it together. Not sure if this makes any sense. makes it into the shape it should be so you can get under minus the inner (or put the inner up once in).
Nice video :) always expect the unexpected !
Super place for a camp.Jealous. Seems weird to me not to have trees. We don't have mountains in my neck of the woods.
Thanks Martin. Great video. I'm thinking in getting a Vango UL 2 for solo trips (UL1 seem too small to me). After this experience, which one would you recommend: Radon UL2 or Helium UL2? Prices are similar and the Helium is lighter. Thanks!
@@user-jv4co4cy5othanks for the comment 🙌☘️ if I had a choice.. the Helium.. such a great tent. But do look at the Xenon as well. Such a good tent and massive for 1.8kg. have a review of that there as well. Happy shopping. Let me know what you decide. 😁
Great views. Wouldn't be too impressed with the tent and the pole sliding to the side which would collapse on you if you were inside. The pole structure design might be a fault.
Great video loved it.
3 season means 3 season !!
@@johnmccarron good insight thanks.
@@soletrail So you know Martin< I have one lolol.
Never had a good experience with Vango. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired too.
Did you set it up sideways to the wind to test it?
