- This is already up on TH-cam but it sounded a little thin to me.
I guess this is the Osbornes covering Webb Pierce unless someone else i'm not aware of released Pathway of Teardrops before Webb cut it in 1960.

22 years old discovering bluegrass music and goddamn i love comming accross those songs that really hit and this is on of them! Its better to have loved and lost than to never loved at all, but its hard to see it that way sometimes!

I love these fellows I could listen to them all day everyday.
Hard to beat the Osborne Brothers' harmonies. That is really what made them - Sonny's banjo playing as good as it was. And nice photos uploaded with this . I still have the DECCA DL 4602 album released in 1965. I think I bought it in Montreal in 1966. I think my favorite Osborne album is "Blue Grass Music - The Osborne Brothers" 1962 MGM E4018
This post was from my Decca DL 74602 stereo vinyl that I burned to a home CD player burner in 2001.
It was pristine at the time,, I still have it too.
I like the MGM stuff but the early Decca cuts are my favs.,, 65' - 71'..

I have a few of them .DECCA : Voices In Bluegrass 1965 / Yesterday Today & The Osborne Bros. 1968 /Up This Hill And Down 1966 and The Modern Sounds Of Bluegrass 1967. There are also wonderful examples of their harmonies on Country Roads MCA DL75321 issued 1971 . We talk the same language. Cheers. Nice to be able to share with you.

Thanks for sharing, I've just recently discovered them and I can't believe I never heard of them until recently and I'm 60 but I'm from the UK so maybe they weren't as famous here. IDK. ❤

When I first got this album 30 years ago I played it for DAYS ............
You can never go wrong with those brothers.Webb had it going on pretty good as well.I just listen to "There stands the glass" and "In the jailhouse now" This was cut in 65 on Decca Records. Great taste my friend!

One of the best cuts by the Osborne Brothers - ever!! Amazing harmonies and the banjo break is outrageous, considering the year it was recorded.
Sonny was a monster player. My personal favorite. He never really delved into the melodic/chromatic styles, but that's ok. His playing fit the O Bros playing perfectly, and his level of innovation and improvisation are unmatched in bluegrass.
Jim Dubya Thanks Jim. I totally agree. Sonny was one of the most creative banjoists, of only a few to successfully incorporate sounds from other instruments (e.g. pedal steel). As a banjo player myself, I especially admire his backup techniques (although his lead playing was not less amazing).
Ron Deckelbaum I discovered the Osborne brothers about the same time i discovered Webb Pierce, the early 80's.
I loved high voices, high harmonies.. Webb, Kitty Wells, Roy Orbison, Bobby Osborne, etc.
The ONE thing i loved as much as the harmony of the Osbornes was the totally unique brand of banjo Sonny played.
I had never heard anyone play a banjo like that! Mainly I knew Earl Scruggs, Roy Clark, and Grandpa Jones and that was about it.
I didn't know technically or musically how to describe it but it just sounded GREAT ( and a little funky) and it made their great records even better.
QUESTION :
Is there any contemporary working banjo player these days that plays in the Sonny Osborne style?
2packs4sure As for contemporary banjo players who play show a heavy Sonny O influence, I would give a big nod to David Talbot, the former banjo player for The Grascals. I highly recommend the first two Grascals albums. Dana Cupp, who played with Monroe and the OBros, is also an excellent banjo player who was heavily influenced by Sonny. The guy who taught me to play, Al Osteen, mainly encouraged me to study three players when I was first learning back in the late 70's/early 80's - Earl Scruggs, Sonny Osborne, and Alan Munde. I don't think any banjo player can go wrong incorporating ideas from those three guys into their playing.
@@2packs4sure I first heard these great bros in the early ‘70s when my husband & I were dating!! We saw a lot of the live shows then (even Elvis in ‘72)!!! We got married in ‘75 & started a family, so for the next 20 yrs we raised 2 sons, 24 months apart!! They were our life!!❤❤ Of course, they grew up, married & now I have 4 grands ages 20, 16 yr old twins, & 12!!! Those 2 sons are now 47 & 45; my hubby & I were married for 40 1/2 yrs.; he passed away in ‘15.
My boys live close by so they can help me!!! I’m really tired of COVID; last yr I had a hip replacement; this yr so far I’ve had pneumonia & tested positive for COVID….was in hospital 5 days!!! We loved country & blue grass music!!! ❤️🥰🌈

The first thing that drew me into the Osborne brothers was Sonny's funky jazzy banjo,,,,,,,, totally unique to this day !!

Good coverage , still Webb just suits my listening better.
I haven't heard Webb's version although it is probably on TH-cam somewhere. I do remember his " There Stands The Glass" very well. Heard it as a kid on Country radio in Montreal. Did you know that song was banned from air play for quite a long time ? Times have sure changed eh ? ( Canadian for huh )
@@bluegrasscannuk Yes I knew there stands the glass was banned by a lot of reading stations, also know that Webb's Record producer of told Webb that it would end his career , shows what he knew. I fell in love with Webb's music first time I heard Wondering 1951.
