This was the movie that proved to me that Brad Pitt wasn't just another pretty face and could actually act. That final scene where he becomes "Wrath" was nothing short of excellent.
I always thought his pacing around, head movements and the delivery of the "Whats in the barx" line seemed a little , I don't know, hammy ? . Just my thought anyway.
A truly eye-opening look into actual police work. Most serial killers are caught through dumb luck or their own arrogance. Very rarely do cops/detectives actually apprehend someone through rigorous investigating. But seriously, why hasn't a 12 Days of Christmas slasher? On the first day they find one body, next day they find two and that's when they realize just how bloody this holiday season is going to be.
I have watched this movie I don't even know how many times, and I somehow STILL never caught that gerbil headline on the newspaper or the fact that Pitt wore the same tie the whole time! LOL

This movie is amazing! One thing that didn't make sense though was how it constantly rained in the city but then a 30 minute drive away and they're in the desert. It's kinda trippy the movie never mentioned any state or city location.
I think the point was that the city was supposed to feel like an isolated bubble that just completely sucks. That's why when they got out of the city it's different. It's pretty crazy though
I wonder if Fincher was inspired by Blade Runner? I know that's the future and implied to be pollution, but the contrast was really neat, and I think the atmosphere is what mattered there and here... .... although the director's cut of BR had come out by the time this film was made, I think? No Kubrick-supplied mountain B-roll there. But still, growing up watching the original release - that could still have had an impact.
The city is Gotham. I never thought about it but it occurred to me when he started describing it in the beginning of the video. You really can put Batman in there and it would totally work.
When my girlfriend and I walked out of the theater after seeing this, she looked at me, and said "I'll never forgive you for this." I could only smile.
and the opening credits were like nothing we'd ever seen before. Those in particular had a HUGE influence on movies and tv shows for years. They also cleverly did not include Spacey's name in opening credits. Going in to see the film with little prior knowledge... it was an impressive shock (at the time!) when the actor showed up.

He had shot Usual Suspects and a few other movies and knew his profile was growing enough that if they listed him at the beginning it would be pretty easy to figure out he was the killer. "I'm the third-billed actor in a movie where the top two billings are trying to find somebody and they don't find that somebody until the last reel, then it's obvious who that somebody is."
This movie disturbed me so much that it was only through repeated viewings I was able to appreciate how well it was crafted and desensitise myself to the content a little. But only a little. I totally get avoiding it, though. That was my approach to Irreversible. Everyone has their limits.
i was obsessed with this when it came out, i loved it so much. and to this date it's one of the few high-concept serial killer chases that aims for something a little more interesting.
"Se7en" is a great film, and "Burn After Reading" is also one of my favorite films - thanks for bringing up both of these awesome flicks in one Honest Trailer. Definitely know what I'll be rewatching later this week/next weekend.

Finally someone else notices that Doe’s plan for Envy really didn’t make a lot of sense and relied on the fortuitous last minute coincidence that the cop investigating his murders had a hot wife
Doe likely had a plan for someone else for the final 2 sins but when he investigated those who were investigating him, it was too good an opportunity to pass up, or he figured there were good odds one of them would have a partner
John clearly was picking random people who he thought fit the crimes apart from like Sloth. So him just randomly choosing David or whatever isn't all that surprising at all

4:30 funny thing, in the opening they pan over a whole bookshelf of notebooks, supposedly written by John Doe. They were supposed to be in a later scrapped scene but in the name of 'authenticity' someone actually wrote like 10 notebooks worth of serial killer ramblings, and in the end they were just shown in one passing shot for the opening.
The John Doe line "I didnt do that" in response to the dead dog was a brilliant adlib from the always awesome Spacey! Also the sloth victim becomes a bit less scary when u notice he has two left arms lol

first time i saw the batman i realy struggled to see past the se7en pastiche. i feel that reeves outh to have acknowledged it but i guess fincher borrowed from 70s cinema and so did reeves. and i love that he took a template like se7en and gave it a more hopeful ending.
This is a great movie, and like most great movies, it makes a bad honest trailer. I really don't share your conclusion that anything was destroyed here.
