1. Problem - Critical to state a solid 'what's the problem' statement with specific examples including costs associated with it, as it's the filter for decision makers to accept or reject your proposal - 1:33
2. Vision - Directly tie your project with long range goals and organization strategies - 2:55
3. Benefits - Expand on the Vision statement: What will your project deliver, cost to avoid - 3:28
4. Deliverables - What will users receive? - 3:50
5. Success Criteria - It has to be specific, measurable, realistic, achievable, and time bound - 4:15
6. Deadlines/Plan/Approach - Detail what'll the project use as means/tools to achieve results. It'll use an Agile approach, or a more traditional Waterfall method - 4:45
7. Cost/Budget - State the funding plan for the project based on the above listed items - 5:17
Be specific and concise. It has to logically flow. But mainly lobby for your project before and after presenting your proposal.

Good stuff, but there's another tactic which I've used with success over the years. Without being too overt, it's important to give the decision makers a picture of how this project could benefit their own careers. When people get excited about what the project will do for them, the funding is pretty much guaranteed...

Nice job. One comment on SMART objective: Achievable and Realistic basically mean the same. Good alternatives for the "A" in the acronym can be: Agreed-upon (by top management) or Aligned (with company stategy).

This was great, thanks, I have been researching "how to write a project management plan" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Tannilara Stupendous Transcendence - (just google it ) ? It is a great one of a kind guide for discovering how to getting 7000 plus project management and business templates minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my brother in law got excellent success with it.
I like to change the A to actionable. This is where you figure out the specific actions that need to be taken. and Then R (realistic) is where you figure out what problems may show up. Where your weaknesses and strengths are, and then solve those problems before you get started. If you can’t solve the problem now is the time to re-evaluate if you can realistically complete the goal and change up some strategies.
Going to write my first proposal. This was definetly a big help. Thank you.

Devin, thanks so much for the well outlined video! I am, however, still a bit confused on the difference between the "Benefits" and "Deliverables." Are the benefits more abstract, such as "as a result of this project we're able to provide better, more efficient service as a result of..." And, the deliverables are more concrete, such as a list of items needed to provide better, more efficient support?
Deliverables would be the product/service end, tangibly. The benefits is how those Deliverables are of use & what good do they do.
How different is "benefit " from success criteria?

Quick question. Is it ok to start with 'problem'? won't it sound like a negative start? Would it not be better to start with vision and then come to the topic which talks about what's stopping it from happening?
It's not really a problem, rather, it's a problem statement. This defines in simple terms the challenge that you are trying to solve and why solving it is quite important. So, it's fine to start with the problem statement.

Actually, I watched the vedio many times, and I found something needs your respectful answer, in the vedio, it is not mentioned why the decision-,makers have to choose the project proposed not else, what I mean is don't you think that we have to make like an alternative analysis so that we can cite and prove that what we have proposed is the best choice for the decision maker. thank you.

I have an interview for a business proposal writing position on Thursday. I am praying that I get it. My degree is in English (professional/technical writing), and I have a minor in communication. I have a background in social media management, librarianship, and I am currently an area manager for Amazon. I don’t have any history writing business proposals. But I’ve written many proposals for during undergraduate years. And I’m confident in my ability to deliver. I’m just worried about the interview process and nailing it. Any advice?
