Aww too cute. My basset hound is almost 2 years old. Hes not all that friendly with strangers but is sweet as pie to the family. Cries and runs behind your heels all day long. Hes a lap dog. Loves belly rubs and stubborn as he wants to be but he's my baby. I love my basset!
My aunt's basset had 10 puppies, me and my mom helped care for them and I can confirm that they are clumsy little buggers and often have trouble staying on their feet at this age, especially when they're this excited. They're just fine lol
Its very normal. Those pups are only a few weeks old. Dogs don't have total control of they're legs when they are so young still. Especially with this particular breed of dog. Bassets have very short legs to begin with and are not considered to be one of the most graceful dog breeds. But they are very gentle and make a great dog for a family. Theses puppies are so darn cute.
Hi Cindy, I would say an absolute yes to everything above! We have only been doing one litter a year. We screen very carefully and do home checks. This upsets a lot of people but our prime focus is the health and welfare of our babies and our adults. We only select homes for our babies that we feel we can have an ongoing relationship with. We even organize reunions here at home for our babies. Thanks!

I have bad news everyone. My mother in law and my wife owned a Basset Hound named Bubba he was 13 years old and last Saturday July 15, 2017 he died. He had to be put down. He was having liver failure and was vomiting some orange substance and he also had Cushing's Disease. Which made him pee a lot. My wife and mother in law is still devastated on the loss of Bubba. I am still sadden and shocked he died. He was a beautiful boy and we will miss him. I loved him as well They had him since he was a 5 week old puppy. He was the runt of his litter. His mom Kimber and dad Ollie had 3 litters. Bubba's litter was the last. Just wanted to let you know. If you reply thanks.
I am so sorry as I lost both of my Labrador Retrievers back in 2003 almost back to back which devastated our family, especially my late father who passed away not long after. My deepest condolences to you and your family! Bubba will be in your hearts forever!
Well lets see... Noble, the daddy in this video is 70 lbs. he is very active and not over weight. Noble is 75% European bloodline, which is naturally heavier. Kelly, the momma is 55 lbs. She has American bloodlines. Our other male Elvis is smaller at about 45 lbs. So you really have to look at the parents to see how much they will grow. Good luck and hope to see some videos of Greta!

Oh yes, you bet! We have three with allergies! I carry Benadryl with me all the time. They get hives and swelling so I give them the Benadryl and things get better. We always observe them for about 20 to 30 minutes after they come in to make sure they are ok. "Noble" the dad in this video gets it. He had a sister die from allergies when she was 1 year old. 1 mg per pound is safe. Sometimes we use children's liquid as well as the tablets.
You can tell this dog is like "Oh, shit, this little bastard is gonna cost me a fortune to feed & send to school!". It's like a bad version of Maury: "Test results reveal: You ARE the father!"
I dunno much about baskets but my dog tullie and his son are so grumpy looking and they are daushund jack Russell mixes. And their faces and mannerism are so like Bassett, so I'm guessing this is total hound personality! Wow Bassett are so lovable, thank you for sharing except they must have a wonderful temperament cus my mama dog would have attacked any dog including papa dog if they got so close to the puppies that young!
Aww this video is killing me. I loved it. My litter of pups were raised with their daddy right beside them...well they were in a whelping box and papa was on the outside but he would look in on them every now and again. At about 3wks they were moved from box to under our kitchen table and and full range of kitchen so every time he came through kitchen to go outside he would be attacked by 8 beauties trying to nurse off him.
They are great hunting dogs, The only dogs that have a better scent of smell is the blood hound, Bassett's also have the cutest face though so they're the best dogs ever:D

What's sad is actually alot of dads see there sons as threats and try to kill them or are rude to them this one dad dog broke killed 3 of his pups by breaking it's ribs before it could grow up or get stronger then him cause he saw it as a threat to his dominance
I had a basset hound for over 14 years, and she was very active, a great hunter, and loved to chase balls and run. She was certainly not the stereotypical, lazy basset that cannot walk. I think it's the LAZY OWNERS and not the dogs!

Basset hounds were built to be slower, but only so they could last longer on the hunting trail in order for hunters that hunted on foot to keep up with them. So all basset hounds should be capable of having a great deal of stamina and endurance. Yet because unknowledgeable or uncaring breeders choose to prioritize aesthetic (and not the breed standard aesthetic) they are messing up the basset hound. Breeding basset hounds to be heavier than they typically are does nothing but put more strain on their long backs and give them more health issues. When you examine the ideal basset hound standard set by the AKC the basset hound is supposed to be well proportioned with a large head carrying loose skin, a beautifully arched neck, long ears, a deep chest, powerful shoulders, a straight topline, strong wrinkled front legs, long smooth ribs, and well rounded hindquarters. All of these features were designed to encourage the basset hound to do what it does best which is sniff out a cold trail lasting over 12 miles if need be. Deviating from this standard, by packing on MORE weight and wrinkles or SHRINKING the dog into a mini package does absolutely nothing to improve the breed, it ruins it. Yes, tiny basset hounds are cute and so are heavily wrinkled ones, but those dogs will be predisposed to certain health issues than a dog that was carefully bred with the breed standard in mind will be less likely to have. (Note: Health and temperament are more significant than appearance, but appearance is still pretty significant as a basset hound puppy should come out looking like a basset hound and not a beagle.) Furthermore, because of ignorance and the appearance of certain basset hounds the stereotype of the "lazy" basset hound persists. Like you said, john white, basset hounds are not lazy. They usually have a lower indoor energy level and owners who don't want to put in a ton of time exercising their dog are attracted to that attribute and obtain one of these dogs and then the basset hound inevitably becomes morbidly obese and suffers a shorter lifespan because of it. A LOWER ENERGY LEVEL DOES NOT MEAN A DOG BREED DOESN'T NEED EXERCISE. IT JUST MEANS THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO CHILL OUT AND TAKE A NAP INSTEAD OF RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES IN YOUR ABODE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PLAY A FIFTH GAME OF FETCH! One basset hound breeder said that a well bred basset hound should be able to go twelve miles in one setting. To me, that's unrealistic, not for the dog for me, but it demonstrates the extent of how much farther these dogs can go then people give them credit for.

When you examine the ideal basset hound standard set by the AKC the basset hound is supposed to be well proportioned with a large head carrying loose skin, a beautifully arched neck, long ears, a deep chest, powerful shoulders, a straight topline, strong wrinkled front legs, long smooth ribs, and well rounded hindquarters. All of these features were designed to encourage the basset hound to do what it does best which is sniff out a cold trail lasting over 12 miles if need be. Deviating from this standard, by packing on MORE weight and wrinkles or SHRINKING the dog into a mini package does absolutely nothing to improve the breed, it ruins it. Yes, tiny basset hounds are cute and so are heavily wrinkled ones, but those dogs will be predisposed to certain health issues than a dog that was carefully bred with the breed standard in mind will be less likely to have. (Note: Health and temperament are more significant than appearance, but appearance is still pretty significant as a basset hound puppy should come out looking like a basset hound and not a beagle.) Furthermore, because of ignorance and the appearance of certain basset hounds the stereotype of the "lazy" basset hound persists. Like you said, john white, basset hounds are not lazy. They usually have a lower indoor energy level and owners who don't want to put in a ton of time exercising their dog are attracted to that attribute and obtain one of these dogs and then the basset hound inevitably becomes morbidly obese and suffers a shorter lifespan because of it. A LOWER ENERGY LEVEL DOES NOT MEAN A DOG BREED DOESN'T NEED EXERCISE. IT JUST MEANS THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO CHILL OUT AND TAKE A NAP INSTEAD OF RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES IN YOUR ABODE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PLAY A FIFTH GAME OF FETCH! One basset hound breeder said that a well bred basset hound should be able to go twelve miles in one setting. To me, that's unrealistic, not for the dog for me, but it demonstrates the extent of how much farther these dogs can go then people give them credit for.
