I'm so happy you decided to pursue your passion! I left a stable career in law to pursue food, and it wasn't easy and definitely scary, but at the end of the day, we have only one life to live so live it as best as you can! So happy for you!

Red Lily hi red lily, I saw your comment that you left school to pursue a photography career. My daughter has decided not to go to college and wants a photography career as well. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations that helped you begin to get jobs? She's quite talented but doesn't have a lot of contacts or resources to start moving forward. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 😀

I'm kind of in the complete opposite boat but going through the same judgement. I switched majors and a lot of the classes didn't transfer over so I have to go for an extra semester. (I couldn't stick with my first major because of health reasons). A lot of family (not so much friends) are so judgemental about not finishing in 4 years but again, I have health issues so I didn't want to stress myself out with an overload of classes each semester. Sorry about the rant, but I support you 100%, do what makes you happy!!

Your such a great influence on young viewers such as myself. I love your channel and all the content you share and post! Stay true to who you are and keep being the humble, down to earth person everyone knows and loves! I hope everyone can feel and sense the passion you truly have for inspiring people on a social media platform. There are so many people that just choose social media for attention and money and I can honestly say I see how much you genuinely love doing this. Like the quote by Marc Anthony "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." and that is the exact statement your expressing in this video. With that being said, Kudos to you girl and all that you have/will achieve. You're such a beautiful soul and just know that you have 100% of my support! It's hard to find social media influencers who are as modest and pure as you and I just wanna say that I think we'd be bff's if we were to ever cross paths... JUST SAYING :) lol love ya! #fangirling

My dad was paying my tuition. (His dad paid for his). But I was barely passing my classes when I returned to school. So I told my dad I wasn't going to continue. If I were younger I may have gotten through it. But I'm 37 now, and I just didn't want to study. That's the other thing, I was under way too much stress in school. I'm more relaxed now too, without a vocab test every week that I wasn't prepared for.

Caitlin! I did my YTT at discovery yoga in st. Augustine and I think you would LOVE that program. Deva, the teacher puts so much emphasis on the mindfulness of yoga, but also goes so in depth with anatomy and the physics of yoga. I truly believe I received one of, if the not the best yoga training in the country.

I just came to a crossroads myself. I've been in school twice pursuing an education degree. First secondary and then early child hood. I've been passionate about holistic living and some past trauma led me to finally getting my Yoga Teacher Training at Sky House Yoga in silver spring md. It's a donation based yoga studio and apothecary and they gave me a scholarship.
After my YTT I plan on pursuing a certificate for kids yoga and then going to IIN to be a health coach.
Super excited and grateful for the clarity and for listening to my intuition and soul that was telling me to move on because I wasn't passionate.
I like to work on my own time and I like kids but wasn't about that 9-5. As a yoga teacher and health coach I can help clients privately with both and contract myself to preschools for weekly kids yoga!
Hope everything works out for you. By the way have you thought about yoga therapy as a career?:)

Loved listening to all of these responses to the questions! It's really interesting to discover how truly independent you become once you leave a whole system that pretty much gives you a set pathway. You no longer have to work at the expense of others. Well, you technically do work at the expense of a whole audience with a blog, but to SOME degree. However, it's still drastically more independent and self-serving than just following a whole curriculum of courses!

Omg I relate to this so much. I just graduated high school and I decided that I wanted to do what you do while in grade 12, so I never actually went to school, but I am still having the exact same questions from adults (always asking what I'm going to school for.... ugh) and I have the same feelings about my friends who are away at school currently. I am still so happy with my decision and I feel like I'm doing exactly what I'm doing. As you said, I still don't know how the heck to answer the question of what I do. I'm always like well.. I'm working on my TH-cam channel and Instagram and I'm trying to start my own business based on health. They're always like .... okay. And then when I say I'm not sure if I want to study nutrition and become a nutritionist or offer coaching or something, but once I figure it out I'll go to school for whatever certifications I need, they go "oh okay, that's great!" (even though that's not really my plan). It's interesting how somehow school is the only sort of validation out there for some people. I also find I get a lot more praise for mentioning naturopath (which I don't think I would ever do) than nutritionist or health coach.

People who make patronizing comments like "Oh good luck with that" when it comes to another person's career choice pisses me off. Like its not their life, why do they have to look down on you for choosing to follow a career path that could actually make you happy? I bet you 99% of those people are people who once had a dream career of their own, but failed because they never tried, and are probably envious and most likely unhappy with their own life. Keep doing you, Caitlin. Always. :)

You should absolutely do a teacher training. Definitely do it with a teacher who you really connect with. I would advise against doing a 3 week intensive program in a glamorous tropical location. It's a lot of information to absorb and I think programs spread out over several months are more effective. Even if you don't end up teaching it's a great opportunity for self study and to make great friends.

You made me feel pretty horrible for waking up at 11-ish most days. My sleep cycle is different from most people and I get the best sleep between approx 7 and 11 in the morning, and I can't fall asleep before around 2am, that's how my body works. I've had 9 to 5 jobs but I could barely functional and I felt really sick and horrible, that structure does not work for me. Sleeping 2am till 11am works great for me, but most people view this as a failure on my part, and I am self conscious about this every single day.

I'd love to hear about your experience if you decided to do yoga teacher training! Though I'm very happy with my current area of study (I'm an art student), I have considered that I may not want to go the traditional route with my degree. I'm not interested in "the institution" (dealing with the traditional gallery space blahblahblah) and I want to pursue art/fashion photography for a while for sure. But some day I may just want to have a private art practice and teaching yoga, since I'm very passionate about yoga, may be a nice way to support and enrich myself at some point in life :) sorry this was so long-winded and probably unnecessary, but it just goes to show that even people with specific passions can recognize that life is a winding path with more than one opportunity to take along the way. Good luck and I can't wait to see more from you!!

GIRL! i loved this video and have been meaning to watch it earlier. You said everything i would say! Firstly, when i first quit everyone was like wow your dumb... what are you gonna do? Just youtube? you dont even have that many subs... etc. etc. I'm so happy i listened to that voice in my head bc now i am really making deep rooted dreams come true. not once did i think i was gonna be poor out on the streets or any of that lmfao (my mom definitely thought that was my future - shes carib, and only believes in corporate america as the way to go) i make more money than at my old corporate job i quit earlier this year in march, and most importantly i have wayyyyy more time on my hands! the problems i face arent ones i thought i prepared for. I'm taking on all kinds of actual real life adult things lol. How to handle finances, and budget... i burn money on food so much. When to take a break and that they ARE mandatory, realizing even though im getting alot of passive income i still need structure to my day, setting goals and keeping up with them and marking them off. Just taking care of me and my business in a healthy way. Its like living a whole new life in a whole new body. Like, it really is so different then working a reg. 9-5 its a totally different lifestyle and i love it. Best decision i have ever made in my whole life..... now im gonna start traveling in 2018! Jamaica in December, Thailand in Jan. and India in Feb! So, to anyone that made it to the bottom of this long comment, GO FOR IT!! Now!!!!!

A college education is invaluable, but a Masters Degree is icing on the cake. Unless you're going to devote your life to physical therapy and keeping up with your license and credidations, LEAVE and follow your heart. I wanted to be an audiologist, but I would have had to get a doctorate degree - too much time. I taught hearing impaired kids instead, and quit after 8 years to teach exercise classes(Jazzercise). I became certified and lived happily ever after. I'm a 65 year old woman who's been vegan for 5 years! I'm type A as well, and thrived at being self-employed.
