There were all sorts of little changes with combat and dungeoneering I was not aware of before now. Thanks for shining a light on these changes, they seem to make a noticeable difference.
The fun starts immediatly. In P5 for instance, the tutorial literally was like 8 hours and i was bashing my head against the wall waiting for something to do. This game does much better at being a video game
AAMMMAZING Preview/Review. I have off and on played P3 FES for years now and never finished. The tower and the tiring out mechanic just threw me off. I'm soooo excited to finally get to experience the full story here. The QOL improvements all look amazing. And the graphics! Ugh Seeing it in its full moving glory, they outdid themselves. The models, textures, reflections, fog, blur, it all looks so stunning. Can't wait for my copy to arrive. Thanks for the fab review as usual. Keep it up!
I actually really appreciate that most of your comparisons for P3R are related to the other iterations of itself. Obviously like you said, there's a clear, if possibly overwhelming design ethos taken from the success of Persona 5, but remakes like these always exist not just in relation to their contemporaries but to their legacy, and I think highlighting the differences between the iterations helps to show the value of the remake beyond a nifty coat of paint. I've had a few times where I've been really excited for a remake of a game that I adore, but struggle to justify going out of my way to go through a story and universe I've already thoroughly explored and lived in.
I've been having such a good time with it! Other than that 1-minute announcement trailer, I've gone in totally blind; and so many things have blown me away!! It's clear that Atlus put so much love into this release~ So many things to simply admire while I vibe to the OST. They really outdid themselves.
@@magicalpj Of course, the original is my favorite Persona, actually! I think that's why I've been so blown away by this remake~ It's like reliving my first PS2 playthrough in Ultra HD, haha. Not even afraid to admit that hearing "Want To Be Close" again after all these years made me cry a little.

So hyped to revisit P3.. I think the way the OG began as well as when you sign the contract with pharos, it was more ominous and mysterious than what they did here. Also think the OG music was mixed better than the covers. But I am also glad they improved the gameplay this much.
Listen ill always chose the animed cut scenes over the in game ones BUT I dont think the in game ones were bad waaay better than portable ill yell you that much.

I’m hoping they’ll make the original an option or as DLC. I thought Atlus did a really good job with capturing the look & feel of the original Tartarus. And I definitely get what you mean about it feels a little TOO “Persona 5”. I’m pretty sure also that we are going to see “The Answer” and a FeMC as DLC eventually. (Which I’m okay with. I would choose the FeMC route over “The Answer” if we can only get one). I’m hoping to actually beat Elizabeth this time around! She kicked my butt so many times in “P3P” I think I just finally gave up. (To be fair it was my second “SMT” game after “Nocturne”, and Elizabeth is frickin tough! Man, I havent played a persona game since ages ago back on the PSP days started out on 3. It sounds like the updates they gave it makes it a enjoyable experience again. Also since I'm slowly getting back into jrpgs all thanks to sea of stars. I plan on getting P3 again down the road again. fire video. im not gonna sit here and act like i grew up on persona, my first was royal and P3R is my second. p3r is the greatest game i have ever played and has made me look and research OG, P3P and FES, and god i wish i grew up with those. but i am amazed how well they did P3R. granted ive seen a lot of comments on how P3R is "persona 5-ified" basically, and i can see how people may not like it as much because of that i think it works really well. i personally like the voice acting of reload more than the original cast, i think your review is pretty much spot on and P3R is now and forever more my baby. ATLUS PLEASE GIVE US THE ANSWER ON THE NEW ENGINE I WANT TO EXPERIENCE IT.
My only complaint so far is the music. Specifically the new versions of songs. They don’t all hit. It’s not all on the new vocalist, it’s mostly the instrumentals for me that are hit or miss compared to their originals although the old vocalist is a bit stronger for most of the songs. But on the flip, original songs particularly It’s Going Down Now, Full Moon Full Life, and Color your Night are AMAZING. None of,the music is bad, just some doesn’t equal the original. But I’m massively in love with Its Going Down Now. I actually might love it more than Mass Destruction, and that blows my mind.
Man, I'm so glad P5 went and used SMT staples for their enemies. The Shadows have always been bland monsters. Seeing them upscaled in P3R is like seeing turd painted gold.
I can’t get enough of Persona 3 reload! I really wish they would have added the female protagonist! I want to play as a girl in the modern personas SO bad!!
3 reload is hands down the best persona game for me. 3FES was already top tier but with reload peak is still peak. Also we ARE getting the Answer as dlc

have t finished the game yet just made it to mid september but I miss burn my dread 😭😭😭. Been enjoying the game and grinding tartrus can get a bit boring sometimes but shit I hate one of the floor deigns it kept confusing me where the stairways was and was worried I would overstay my welcome on the floor and get the reaper to show when i cant beat him yet.
Was just gonna say this feels very p5 royal haha. Its almost lost its unique charm but the added stuf helps for a smoother ride for new fans of the series. Gonna wait to see what they add later or its royal esque version

@PelvicGaming I mean. With how Retro Studio handled Metroid Prime Remastered or Hal did for Kirby: Nightmare into Dreamland, Super Star Ultra & Return to Dreamland DX, any remakes can be better than the original.
Tbh even if I wasnt put off by how its getting hit with the "everything new Atlus makes in the past almost decade has to heavily resemble p5 stick" from trailers, the $70 tag and them asking for paid DLC on top of that for content that WOULD have made it the definitive take on P3 if in at base is new never before seen levels of Atlus pulling an Atlus. Yeah I'll be skipping personally. I used to clamor for 1-3 to get remade but now I'm good. But I won't rain anyone else's parade, if Pelvic's happy then props given lol
I think the thing that has always stressed me out playing SMT/Persona games is the "ability is about to evolve" message because they never say what they're gonna evolve into. Is my persona who I've been using for Agi going to get agilao or is it going to become some other random skill and make them useless for agi spells? Only the game knows and chastises me via knowing that not letting it evolve has hurt the persona.
Im still really put off and salty by the fact that they didn't remake the FemMc route. If any version of Persona 3's content deserved the remake treatment, it was P3P: the version that didn't already have a fully realized version. Also, I just dont want ANOTHER Persona game where i can only date the girls. This remake looks pretty and is an improvement on the basegame for sure, but im not interested in playing through it again without the FemMc.
I get that. I'm not even gonna attempt to change your mind. It's sad they didn't include her. But I cannot ignore the work Atlus did for this version. Sure it's male only, but they address soooooooooo many grievances of past versions of P3.
I'm with you on this. I can acknowledge the great work they've put into this, but I think there's not a small amount of women gamers who are simply disappointed to not even be an afterthought. Again. God forbid we expect small indie studios like Atlus to make remakes that contain all content released previously

And to be completely honest, I'm just being really salty and dramatic about it. Im probably still going to buy it anyway. P3 is one of my favorite RPGs. Its just really, really disappointing that they've been baiting and dropping the ball with a fem protagonist for over a decade now (Marie in P4Golden's hype promos, and Kasumi for P5Royal) ...and now, when they are remaking the literal only game in the franchise that has a femMc who can date the dudes, ...they cut her out. It just sucks. And makes me have less faith that P6 will finally deliver on that front as well.
A reliable Persona leaker has said that they’re making The Answer as DLC but ain’t doing Femc. I can understand them not doing FemC since they would essentially be remaking the whole game again.
@@Oldernator yeah, but it being too resource consuming to do after release isn't really an excuse for it to not have been designed in there from the beginning.
They made some of the areas less vibey with the new lighting system way to bright in some spots ruins the atmosphere also alot of objects are just missing shadows from the original
Boy, lemme tell ya. Blasting all the way to floor 21 on your first Tartarus visit, running on nothing but six soda cans, whatever healing items you can scavenge, and a single clock recharge? No other feeling like it. Atlus cooked.
SO I am of the mind that 90% of games don't need remakes, like at all. No game is too old to be played and enjoyed, a player should meet the game where it is not the other way around. It has the flaws it has and we should as an industry strive to move forward and simply learn from our mistakes instead of remaking the same thing over and over again to meet some idea of whats "modern" HOWEVER, I also think that if you're going to have a remake, it shouldn't be made with the intention to replace the original, but be a compliment to it, it should encourage someone to want to play what its a remake of. And I've only experienced a handful of remakes that do this and justify their existence, the best one being Black Mesa, the remake of Half Life 1 and one of the very very few others is this. I think reloaded should make you want to play FES. Its a rare good remake, that isn't a replacement, but a way to see a great game in a different way. Like the opposite of FF7R and RE4R.
In line with your comment about it feeling very Persona 5-ish, it's a small nitpick, but I'm kinda sad P3R loses out on the signature toned down colors of the P3 / P4 generation. Hopefully, someone makes a mod for that.
Kinda sad that P3R doesnt seem to have tactics gameplay as an option for that real fes feel. Although tbh tactics stress was about the only thing that kept tartarus interesting in fes so guess now that its a lot better it doesnt need it now.

Oh it's more than "SEEM". It's EXCELLENT. I'm FLYING through Tartarus and leveling up so fast it curbs the grind and I love it!

fire video. im not gonna sit here and act like i grew up on persona, my first was royal and P3R is my second. p3r is the greatest game i have ever played and has made me look and research OG, P3P and FES, and god i wish i grew up with those. but i am amazed how well they did P3R. granted ive seen a lot of comments on how P3R is "persona 5-ified" basically, and i can see how people may not like it as much because of that i think it works really well. i personally like the voice acting of reload more than the original cast, i think your review is pretty much spot on and P3R is now and forever more my baby. ATLUS PLEASE GIVE US THE ANSWER ON THE NEW ENGINE I WANT TO EXPERIENCE IT.
My only complaint so far is the music. Specifically the new versions of songs. They don’t all hit. It’s not all on the new vocalist, it’s mostly the instrumentals for me that are hit or miss compared to their originals although the old vocalist is a bit stronger for most of the songs. But on the flip, original songs particularly It’s Going Down Now, Full Moon Full Life, and Color your Night are AMAZING. None of,the music is bad, just some doesn’t equal the original. But I’m massively in love with Its Going Down Now. I actually might love it more than Mass Destruction, and that blows my mind.

Man, I'm so glad P5 went and used SMT staples for their enemies. The Shadows have always been bland monsters. Seeing them upscaled in P3R is like seeing turd painted gold.
I can’t get enough of Persona 3 reload! I really wish they would have added the female protagonist! I want to play as a girl in the modern personas SO bad!!

3 reload is hands down the best persona game for me. 3FES was already top tier but with reload peak is still peak. Also we ARE getting the Answer as dlc

have t finished the game yet just made it to mid september but I miss burn my dread 😭😭😭. Been enjoying the game and grinding tartrus can get a bit boring sometimes but shit I hate one of the floor deigns it kept confusing me where the stairways was and was worried I would overstay my welcome on the floor and get the reaper to show when i cant beat him yet.

I’ve played P4G and P5R multiple times, and P5R is my favorite game of all time, with P4G not too far off. I CANNOT WAIT to see if P3R surpasses it!!
I still think P3 is where the story is at for me but P5 dungeons??? Oh, they beat p3 in that regard easily.

Was just gonna say this feels very p5 royal haha. Its almost lost its unique charm but the added stuf helps for a smoother ride for new fans of the series. Gonna wait to see what they add later or its royal esque version

Tbh even if I wasnt put off by how its getting hit with the "everything new Atlus makes in the past almost decade has to heavily resemble p5 stick" from trailers, the $70 tag and them asking for paid DLC on top of that for content that WOULD have made it the definitive take on P3 if in at base is new never before seen levels of Atlus pulling an Atlus. Yeah I'll be skipping personally. I used to clamor for 1-3 to get remade but now I'm good. But I won't rain anyone else's parade, if Pelvic's happy then props given lol

I think the thing that has always stressed me out playing SMT/Persona games is the "ability is about to evolve" message because they never say what they're gonna evolve into. Is my persona who I've been using for Agi going to get agilao or is it going to become some other random skill and make them useless for agi spells? Only the game knows and chastises me via knowing that not letting it evolve has hurt the persona.

Im still really put off and salty by the fact that they didn't remake the FemMc route. If any version of Persona 3's content deserved the remake treatment, it was P3P: the version that didn't already have a fully realized version.
Also, I just dont want ANOTHER Persona game where i can only date the girls.
This remake looks pretty and is an improvement on the basegame for sure, but im not interested in playing through it again without the FemMc.

@@PelvicGaming Thats good to hear. I heard they fixed the transphobic bit in the beach babehunt scene too! Im really glad its good. And to be completely honest, I'm just being really salty and dramatic about it. Im probably still going to buy it anyway. P3 is one of my favorite RPGs.
Its just really, really disappointing that they've been baiting and dropping the ball with a fem protagonist for over a decade now (Marie in P4Golden's hype promos, and Kasumi for P5Royal) ...and now, when they are remaking the literal only game in the franchise that has a femMc who can date the dudes, ...they cut her out. It just sucks. And makes me have less faith that P6 will finally deliver on that front as well.
A reliable Persona leaker has said that they’re making The Answer as DLC but ain’t doing Femc. I can understand them not doing FemC since they would essentially be remaking the whole game again.

This game is fucking absolutely amazing probably my favorite persona I was kinda scared of a shitting version of p3 but I am not disappointed

They made some of the areas less vibey with the new lighting system way to bright in some spots ruins the atmosphere also alot of objects are just missing shadows from the original

Persona is the best persona
SO I am of the mind that 90% of games don't need remakes, like at all. No game is too old to be played and enjoyed, a player should meet the game where it is not the other way around. It has the flaws it has and we should as an industry strive to move forward and simply learn from our mistakes instead of remaking the same thing over and over again to meet some idea of whats "modern" HOWEVER, I also think that if you're going to have a remake, it shouldn't be made with the intention to replace the original, but be a compliment to it, it should encourage someone to want to play what its a remake of. And I've only experienced a handful of remakes that do this and justify their existence, the best one being Black Mesa, the remake of Half Life 1 and one of the very very few others is this. I think reloaded should make you want to play FES. Its a rare good remake, that isn't a replacement, but a way to see a great game in a different way. Like the opposite of FF7R and RE4R.
Doesn't it's going down sound like it would go well with a Bayonetta game. It's a good song and sounds like it would fit with Bayonetta as well.

In line with your comment about it feeling very Persona 5-ish, it's a small nitpick, but I'm kinda sad P3R loses out on the signature toned down colors of the P3 / P4 generation. Hopefully, someone makes a mod for that.

Kinda sad that P3R doesnt seem to have tactics gameplay as an option for that real fes feel.
Although tbh tactics stress was about the only thing that kept tartarus interesting in fes so guess now that its a lot better it doesnt need it now.
