Wow, .... I was in the 864th Eng. Bn. at the Presidio. We deployed out to Central Americal on several occasions to build airfields, schools, roads, hospitals, etc., on several occasions. And we always came back to wonderful San Francisco. I met my girl there, got married at the chapel by the Eng. Barriacks, and we're going on 25 years together this June. I remember standing in front of that red castle many, many mornings and evenings...so many memories. Thanks for the vid homie!!!!

Fond memories. I was there from ‘87-‘88, last class to graduate from DLI/SF and we were given tickets to attend the premiere of “The Presidio” since some of us (not me, lol) appeared in the first 20 seconds of the movie. *I heard that they had to take all morning to shoot that part because Sean Connery couldn’t tilt his hand down to perform US style salute 😆

I remember my C.O. in Seoul asking me "who do you know" when I got my orders for the Presidio. When I said "nobody" he told me "you are a lucky man", haha! He was correct. Terrific video, brings back many good memories.

I wish you guys had shown more pics of the Officers' Club. That place was awesome. I was in a USAR unit in the Los Angeles area. Whenever we had to drive up to the Presideo, we would make it a point to hit the Officers' Club. The Presideo was prime property which is the one of the reasons why the civilians wanted it.

Great video! At 5:46 "Brian Hutwagner and Crew" that is my Dad (kneeling) with his guys in my backyard at our house on the Presidio on Sibley Road. I remember some of these guys in the picture. They were a close group of friends. I'll have to show this to my dad.

Mom and Dad were both nurses at letterman,me and my sister were both born there and lived on post with our parents. My dad pasted away years ago but we have some pictures of your interested.

I served in the ceremonial platoon in the 80's. I loved my life while stationed at the PSF. I made life long friends who I will cherish for as long as I can breath.

I was an MP in the 170th too...been looking for people I may have known back then! Was there from June 1980 to Dec 81...did white hat duty for a while, hated working the TCP, but I was awesome at it, anyway that's what people told me, they said I scared them, haha! From like May 81 til I left I was in the color guard, we were the best! I went by Colhoff back then!

I was stationed at LAMC and lived on post for a while, then moved off when I made SP5. BTW, I think it's "Crissy" Field, not "Chrissy" Field.

This is where my Japanese grandfather was exempted by Lt. General John Lesesne DeWitt, Commanding General of the Western Defense Command. He was the only Japanese DeWitt trusted to live outside of America's Japanese Concentration Camps and in the city of Los Angeles. 110,000 other unfortunate Japanese were rousted and arrested in these wind blown barracks. I always wondered what the Presidio looked like and where Gen'l DeWitt's headquarters were. You know, sort of a word picture. The full story about grandpa appears in a book entitled, "Pure Winds, Bright Moon - The Untold Story of the Stately Steward and His Hapa Family Beautiful."
