  • After a month and a half of boat projects in the marina, and two and and half years rebuilding our boat on land, we are getting close to being ready to travel on our sailboat. But we still aren't ready... and getting ready is about to get a lot more complicated.

    Oh I feel for you being kicked-out again. We just finished a similar nightmare from the Mosquito Creek Marina disaster. But now we are in Maple Bay Marina, we drove there last weekend to prep the boat and we are flying with Harbour Air tomorrow from Vancouver to MBM and we will enjoy s/l Laysan from 12 days! (of course we have a to-do list as long as my arm but just being on the boat will be a blessing. I hope you are happy to be on your boat even if on a mooring ball.
    Cheers,
    a.

    Great to see the work progress so well - each little thing is a big thing. On moorage, the future is uncertain on the southern BC coast. As another example, Mosquito Creek marina in North Vancouver recently closed putting even more pressure on local anchorages and limited dock space. That kind of change, combined with the housing and jobs crunch, has really distorted the economics and availibility of moorage in the lower mainland area, and one has the feeling that this is just the start. But on the positive side, I like your bilge blower and have started to plan one for Q.

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it seems to be an issue everywhere from Campbell River south to Seattle 😞 really frustrating. And yes the bilge blower is working great!

    Stressful feeling when you don't have a slip! 😒 When I went thru Nanaimo last summer I was able to get a transient/guest slip easily in the middle of downtown, it was like $50/night, but it works for getting something done (in my case laundry and provisioning).

    2:31 i honestly can’t imagine considering a mid 30°c day as anything but a mild spring day, that’s not an insult, it’s just a reminder of how freaking terrible our heatwaves get here in West Australia, multi days over 46-50°c are not uncommon, that’s when you start sweating in places you didn’t know you had, and swimming pools become too freaking hot..

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Perspective is everything hey? 😂 the real question is what do you consider cold?

    • @trevhedges
      @trevhedges 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WaywardLifeSailing in winter it gets down to around 6°c which is pretty cold, my refrigerator is set at 6°c doesn’t get much colder than that, but remembering the size of Western Australia, 2.5 million sq kms roughly, so it depends on if you are north or south, it’s so large they have different tropical seasons, when it’s summer in Perth, it’s actually the wet season up north, it’s a ridiculously pretty place to live, but is just as hostile, especially north, it’s ancient land and it will happily Amaze you or kill you with equal ease.. actually the channel “slim & Sophie” just did a whole adventure of Western Australia from a sailing boat if you want to binge watch?

      @@trevhedges we watched free range sailing when they were circumnavigating! Looks both beautiful and terrifying

    • @trevhedges
      @trevhedges 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WaywardLifeSailing yeah i can be both, “free range” actually live about 150kms south of me now, Northern Australia especially the Kimberly region is honest ancient lands, it has cave paintings that date back thousands of years, so it’s kinda magical and for the aboriginal people a place of abundance of food & water and life, and respected will easily support skilled adventuring, it really has a timeless almost ominous feeling, (I’m not the first person to say that) where people fook up, is they forget they are not longer the Apex predators, far from it, and the vastness is overwhelming to the majority of people, eg they (tourists) look at a map and see “towns” and assume there’s shopping centres and medical facilities ect, when in reality there’s a fuel station if you’re lucky, or roads that appear on a map, may not even be passable, But generally speaking it’s okay nowadays with modern technology.
