Turn Every Cell On | Dharma Talk by Thich Nhat Hanh, 2005 11 12

  • Dear fellow practitioners and friends on the path. In this talk we learn of the joy and the happiness of the practice. The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh offered this 107-minute dharma talk on December 11, 2005 from Upper Hamlet at Plum Village (France) during the annual Winter Retreat. We are reminded of the basic practices of walking and sitting followed by a deeper teaching on the Five Dimensions of Reality.
Touching paradise. When you practice walking, you involve your body with your practice. We can walk in the ultimate dimension. You turn on every cell in your body. Being completely free with the energy of mindfulness. Each step brings healing and nourishment to you. We use the techniques of mindful breathing.
We apply the same techniques to sitting. We turn on all the cells in our body to arrive in a unified state of being. All the cells will sing in unison and we are in a state of concentration. This is the foundation of enlightenment. Thay comments on sleepiness during sitting meditation. We have to make our sitting interesting. There is so much to enjoy. This state of being gives us the capacity to heal.
The Sutra on the Full Awareness of Breathing offers us exercises to touch all the cells of our body.
Thay offers some reflections on neuroscience and consciousness and how the Buddhist tradition sees things quite different. The elements of the human are: Form, Feelings, Perceptions, Mental formations and Consciousness. The Five Skandhas. Perceiver and the perceived. We train ourselves in seeing the object of our perception. What is the object of our perception? Our consciousness? The Five Dimensions of Reality in Buddhism.
Thay offers a deeper teaching on consciousness and mental formations, including technical terms from Chinese and Sanskrit.
One lesson from this talk is we practice with body and mind together.

This is positive power of the Internet. It means I can watch a talk from a Vietnamese Buddhist monk in a French monastery recorded 16 years ago, while tucked up in bed late at night. The sharing of incredible wisdom from a master of his field. And its completely free.

That idea, that people who have been in hell are lucky because they have the capacity to recognise when they are in paradise, is really beautiful.

Some r afraid of hell, some aren't, because they've been there, and survived. When it's your turn, may it pass quickly.

Makes all the new age fools of todays internet marketing shams look like fools with his simplicity and total lack of hype ! Just very simple answers and direction.

I've looked at a fair few religions and I think my beliefs line up the best with Buddhism. I believe there is a sanctity in everything and the only true way to become closer to the divine is to recognise and respect that by truly understanding it and seeking out more about the universe and our world. No religion should negate humanity and life to focus on god but it is through our respect to all life that we unknowingly dedicate our lives to God.

This shows the great lengths to which we have gone to deny our sin and damnation, and the gift of salvation by faith in the only begotten Son of God who shed his blood to redeem us from sin, and rose from the dead as death could not hold him, giving eternal life to all who believe on Jesus from the heart. You must be born again, born of God. John 3:16.

    • @greenthumb8266
      @greenthumb8266 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Please don’t stay in the wrong perception that your upbringing or religious teachings have brought you to. Don’t you see that the very teaching, that you believe is from God, separates you from others and from God. Do you really want to worship a god who would create all life and then like a child, condemn it all to hell, and then, like a narcissists, claim that he sent his son to die so we (that it created) could beat death? Why didn’t this god create us perfect to begin with, not with bodies that age , that require consuming other living things to continue to live, that suffer pain and death?
The Creator is loving and flows through all of us if we allow it. We are here to experience life in these bodies, with all their shortcomings, difficulties, pain and ultimately death, so that we can understand and appreciate pain free eternal life.
PS the Creator doesn’t mind what you call it, it answers to all who seek a genuine authentic relationship with it. And it loves you so much, and wants you to love others without discrimination.

That person shouldn't have attempted all these talks. There ain't a single one without coughing. Its mind boggling

Hi, I would like to participate helping with the translations, but I am confused when I get to the site you suggested in the comments. How can I do it?

Dear Beatriz, in order to use Amara you need your own Amara account. It's free and easy to set one up. And then you have to go to the Plum Village Amara page and add subtitles under the video you want to translate. amara.org/en/videos/create/
If you decide to go for it, do let us know if you need further assistance after setting up the account. Thank you! 🙏

could someone tell me the name of that bell he is ringing at the start of the talk?

It's called a singing bowl. Either a Buddhist singing bowl or a mantra singing bowl or an ohm singing bowl.

The kind of bell is insignificant compared to the mindfulness it generates.

I feel like I'm auditing a philosophy class taught by a Zen Master.
