    Hey Gabby! This video was extremely helpful for me, and I too love your energy. This is my first time on your page, and I'm excited to see more! I have zero experience in wedding planning, and had never considered it as an option for a career. I've spent the last 5 years juggling different life choices, and finding a career path that fits has proven to be nearly impossible. A couple weeks ago, I was in the backroom at my coffee house job, and a coworker of mine was talking about how she plans to be a wedding planner for Disney when she graduates college. Immediately, it felt like it made sense. I love organizing, I love creating a space, planning events or vacations, having the control over something and making decisions. I enjoy budgeting, I enjoy crunching numbers. It seemed like planning events, even if it wasn't solely weddings, was a perfect fit for me. Ever since that day in the back room, I cant get this idea out of my head. With other career options, I seem to loose interest, or talk myself out of them. So, I've started to look into what it takes to get into the industry, which is what brought me to your video. I do have a couple questions that I'd like to run past you!
    1. Do you believe having a degree would assist someone in working their way through the industry? Or at least, help them get started? What degree would you recommend if so? I am currently in the process of signing up for a communications degree.
    2. Obviously, a big reason for having a career is to make an income. Do you feel that the income you've worked yourself to is enough? Does it allow you to live comfortably? I'm not worried about having an over the top luxurious life, but hoping for an easy simple life, and to not have to live paycheck to paycheck. Is this something you feel you've achieved in your career?

    • @GabbyPinkerton
      @GabbyPinkerton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow thank you for your kind words and sharing this story! I love hearing how people stumble upon this career because it's not what people grow up talking about you know? But when you know, you KNOW!
      Here are a few answers to your questions:
      1) I'm torn on this one. I have a degree in Marketing and it definitely helped me know how to promote my business, brand myself and think strategically. However, I have absolutely no degree in event planning and I don't think you need a degree but rather you need to work in the event industry by assisting others, working as a catering server or even a floral assistant to truly understand how events work.
      2) Yes! I started my business as a side hustle as most of us did so that I could keep learning while making a steady income at a corporate job. One day I told myself that if I can make the same salary doing events than what I make at my corporate job, I would allow myself to quit. That same year I made $5000 over my salary and knew it was time to move into event planning full time! Now I have a team of 3 full time salaried employees. We all make a living from doing events!
      I wouldn't trade this job for anything. My biggest piece of advice is to work in all sorts of different parts of the event industry to see what you like and don't like and then start specializing in something after that!

    I have an events management degree and have interned assisting in fashion shows in London and weddings in the Caribbean (these were in 2013-2016). Since coming back from Antigua in 2016, I couldn't afford to move back to London so I went back to my parents in a small town down south where, back then there weren't any event planning companies at all! So, I eventually went back to my first job as a carer and got another degree in Nursing and I love my job, don't get me wrong but now that I'm planning my own wedding, I miss the feeling of being in control of a lot of things, using my little spreadsheets, checklists, I even created my very own wedding planner and on-the-day-of-event planner (which I then thought of selling digitally on Etsy). I googled about getting back into the industry and I just felt like my skills are so outdated and with my current situation, I wouldn't be able to afford getting an internship.
    Sorry for the long comment, your videos are super helpful and what an awesome story! I'm really hoping to get back into doing event/wedding planning again in the future! May be one day!
