    What an entertaining and fun video with hilarious mishaps that definitely occur if you just use Duolingo! I have been on a Spanish journey for quite a long time. Tried many of the different systems and while I learned lots of individual Spanish words, I found it difficult to understand and converse. Dreaming Spanish is the first program I have run across that is so much fun and easy to learn. I have the premium subscription and it is worth every penny! They use a comprehensible input style of learning, similar to immersion-- how we all learned our primary language as a baby. I am such a fan of the various teachers--Andrea, Alma, Augustina, and Shel. The videos are wonderful and my Spanish comprehension is increasing by the day! Bravo, Pablo for creating such a wonderful program!

    I just started using Duolingo to brush up on Spanish and begin learning Catalan. In my case, it's not las manzanas, instead it's how specific they are about the location of the bathroom. In Catalan, they are always saying "el lavabo del tren" or "el lavabo de l'aeroport" (still learning the use of articles in Catalan). I think people would think I'm nuts stating the obvious with what mode of transportation. At least, when I'm on a plane or in a specific building, I don't include the place when asking for the bathroom as I'm sure the person I'm asking knows where we are.
    Also, it does not help with pronunciation as it will accept a complete butchering of a word. I know the pronunciation of most beginner-level words, however, I'll stumble over a few of them when they are paired with certain words.
    I'm glad I found Dreaming Spanish to use as additional input. I've already spent an unknown amount of time listening to Latin music. I see expanding my knowledge of conversational words and topics as being key to helping with the confidence to practice speaking.

Ven a las misiones españolas de California y haz un recorrido en video a pie y conversando. Hay dos excelentes, que están a una distancia de 25 millas una de la otra. Una es Santa Ynez en Solvang y la otra es La Misión de la Purísima Concepción de la Santísima Virgen María o simplemente Purísima. What has worked for me is to definitely try NOT to translate but rather focus on the sounds of the words in Spanish. When sentences get longer and/or faster you will not have time to translate so now is the time to get into the habit of focusing on the Spanish sounds and letting their meaning "come to you." If you want to be more "deliberate" about your learning, figure/find out the meaning of words after viewing and then watch again. Then the Spanish words will mean something to you without the translation step. This make take several listens but eventually the Spanish sounds will immediately have meaning for you without translating.

    I thought this was going to be pedantic. But I laughed way too much. When I was speaking with Mexicans learning French, they said Duo focuses on pizza. Lol.

    So I wanted to add this to my list of things to help me learn Spanish. The problem is that I noticed that you're speaking Spaniard Spanish and I'm trying to learn Latin American Spanish because my wife is from Ecuador and I'm from Miami. She tells me that she fully understands Spaniards despite the slight differences in conjugation, but she's not sure if learning from a course that teaches Spaniard Spanish would help or hurt me.
    I really liked this video and I'm interested, but I don't want to screw up what I already know and scramble my learning. Has anyone had a similar scenario? Are Spaniard Spanish and Latin American Spanish really THAT different?

    • @angierodriguez5830
      @angierodriguez5830 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, and there are plenty more dialects within Latin America alone, just so you're aware. The cuban accent is not like the mexican accent, for example. Even myself coming from a Mexican family, my accent is a mix of my family's influence, my education and other experiences, so I don't have a Mexican accent really. Andrés is from Spain, so he has that spanish lisp accent and he uses 'vosotros' (you all plural, informal). That's really the only different conjugation ADDITION, I'd say, because Spaniards also use 'ustedes' but purely for more formal instances, for the most part. But Andrea is actually from Mexico. She has a different accent and doesn't use 'vosotros'. It doesn't matter though, you just focus on whichever dialect you're more exposed to (in this case it sounds like ecuadorian per your wife) and then you'll recognize the differences, over time, with other dialects. And all the teachers on Dreaming Spanish are from different countries which helps with the dialect diversity. They have videos solely on this topic alone, where the teachers literally teach themselves words they know but are said differently outside their native countries (like the word for pool: 'alberca' in Mexico, 'piscina' in Spain, etc.). I wouldn't overthink this if I were you, but if you really don't want to sound like a Spaniard, then just try not to pronounce words like the Spanish. It's not that difficult, and I think developing your own accent is one of the last things you start to care about. At the beginning, I'd focus more on vocabulary and learning how to communicate. Saludos y buena suerte.

      Thank you for the explanation! I did notice that it only seemed to be coming from him. So many teachers are from different countries and speak in their own native version of Spanish. That's actually really cool, as when you begin to advance, you'll likely be able to tell accents apart easier.
