Lead singer: Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector) Born: August 10, 1943, New York City. Backing vocals: Ronnie Spector-Bennett, Nedra Talley, born January 27, 1946 in New York City, Estelle Bennett born: July 22, 1941, New York City - († Feb. 11, 2009, Englewood - New Jersey)
Supporting backing vocals: Ellie Greenwich (✝26 Aug. 2009) , Nino Tempo, Bobby Sheen (✝), Sonny Bono (✝) , Cher, Darlene Love, Fanita James, and Gracia May-Nitzsche
Band: The Wrecking Crew with Hal Blaine on drums with his famous intro. That famous drum intro was an accident. Hal Blaine said: "I was supposed to play the snare on the second beat as well as the fourth, but I dropped a stick. Being the faker I was in those days, I left the mistake in and it became: “Bum-ba-bum-BOOM!” And soon everyone wanted that beat.
No less an authority than Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys has declared 'Be My Baby' the greatest pop record ever made. The song drove Brian Wilson mad with envy.
Wilson says it is his favorite record, stating in Q Magazine's 1001 Best songs Ever: "This is a special one for me. What a great sound, the Wall of Sound. Boy, first heard this on the car radio and I had to pull off the road, I couldn't believe it. The choruses blew me away; the strings are the melody of love. It has the promise to make the world better."
The Ronettes recorded "Be My Baby" in July 1963, Los Angeles at the Gold Star Studios famous for its echo chamber and was released in August 1963 at Philles Records. Producer: the infamous Phill Spector.
By the fall of that year, it had become a top ten hit, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Top 100. "Our lives were turned upside down," Ronnie later recalled. "All the things I'd ever dreamed about were finally coming true "Be My Baby" turned out to be a huge record for the Ronettes; radio stations constantly played the song throughout the fall of 1963. Their unpolished but flirty voices, and Ronnie’s breaking “whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh” in “Be My Baby,” have echoed through generations of female rock singers.
"Be My Baby" inspired a legion of Ronettes fans, including Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, who wrote "Don't Worry Baby" as a tribute to the group. The song is also notable for being the first recording work done by Cher, who was one of the backing vocals on the song. Cher, the girlfriend of Sonny Bono at the time (who was then working for Phil Spector) was asked to join the back-up singers when one of them didn't show up for the recording that day. " 'Be My Baby' was the first record I ever sang on," Cher later wrote. "...I went out and stood in front of this big speaker and sang 'be my, be my baby' with the Ronettes and all these other singers."Ah huh huh", and "Be My Baby!," Cher became a permanent backup singer for songs recorded by the Ronettes, along with other songs Phil Spector produced for his label Philles Records.
Phil Spector (81 yrs, born Harvey Phillip Spector, December 26, 1939 - January 16, 2021) convicted on April 13, 2009, for the second-degree murder of Lana Clarkson - a blond actress who was found shot to death in the legendary producer’s 30-room mansion. It was a tragic end to a music career that saw as many dizzying heights as it did truly bizarre twists. He was serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life and would be 88 years (in 2027) old before becoming eligible for parole. But Spector died January 16th , 2021of covid19 related complications. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝟭𝟵-𝘁𝗼-𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗲𝗯.𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟯).
In 2007, the Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame introduced by Keith Richards, and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Ronettes were the only girl group that toured with the Beatles.

@@gingerp6631Phil Spector's production of this song was the reason why Brian Wilson regarded it as the best. Brian Wilson obsessed over the entire song - and that part in particular - for decades.

Hal Blaine’s opening drum riffs on Be My baby is unforgettable.* Born as Chaim Zalmon Belsky (Holyoke, 5 February 1929, Massachusetts). He worked as a drummer with the band The Wrecking Crew, a group of studio musicians and was one of the most requested studio musicians from the 1960s. Blaine played more hit singles than any other rock history drummer. His discography includes 40 number 1 singles, 150 top 10 singles and 35,000 songs. *Thanks Hal!*

1965-I was 14 years old. Great music, burgers, shakes- Now it's lousy music and kale salads, although I admit eating healthily is a lot easier now and is the way to go. I was blessed to have my childhood in the 50's and 60's. It's getting mighty strange out there now.

My Aunt used to make beautifull kale soup! No internet then though I love the internet & U-Tube so I can endlessly watch the "Ronettes"!

I was 14 , too . I am still carrying some of those burgers and shakes. I might have been better off with the kale salads.

My Aunt Ruby in Scotland made beuutifull Kale soup. Don't worry Mr Tune it's a killing business slimming and no one ever makes it!
And even if you lose weight,it's true you live longer but only by 4 weeks!
Kale salad eh must try it! I only have one meal a day so stuff it. Bon Apetite!
