@@billybonkers94 waddell was good but then just went on about the lie of the darts or stacking every single throw which became very annoying , Gwynne was ok
I think there was a "challenge match" night at the Circus Tavern in 1997. One of the matches was Eric Bristow vs Alan Evans. Lanning, Gwynne and Waddell all commentated. All five of those people are sadly no longer with us.
Love watching these older matches. Every time i find it so unbelievable the difference in the crowds. No way in todays game would have they been this quiet or hearing the crowd shh while the darts are being thrown lol great match
I got'a hand it to all the camera men for such a fine job covering the spectators. Great experience to watch this again. Thanks for this posting once again. Taylor must have believed he was cursed to go cold after a decent start of this game.
With the money the PDC has, I can't believe that they haven't read digitize some of these old games. So the videos are better. Because some of these old games are great to watch.
I bet Mardle & Painter still have nightmares about losing in the Semis in 2008. A world title was there for the taking with Kirk "Shite" Shepherd making it to the Final.
Well considering Painter lost to Shepherd in the semis not sure why he would be kicking himself because Shepherd was in the finals. Lmao not a very bright comment there.
at the time kirk sheperd was playing good darts, i saw him at the hampshire open before this world championships and he won the event with a pretty solid field, part was there, painter, wade and others. i remember it well because of how well he was playing, i dont think he threw more then 15 darts a leg all day. he still has a tour card to this day, so its harsh to call im shite. he just hit peak form this year and others took him for granted
wow i first watched the other pdc replay from the final of 2007 between van barneveld and taylor and i did notice that the croud was only concentration about the match. I first thought it was because it was a final and in a smaller room but then i watched this clip and still 95% are their for the darts. It makes me very sad that nowadays after 5 minutes the croud isn,t really watching anymore only if their is a 180 or a 9darter opertunity only 5% is now their for the darts it makes me very sad because this atmosphere makes games more exciting to watch. I was born in 1997 and i don,t think this atmosphere is ever gonna come back but we can only hope.
Aside from the dartsmen playing the game now-a-days, Wayne Mardle is the personality that keeps people watching the sport on Sky. He's done as much for the game as what Crafty, Power and MVG have. Hawaii took up the mantle Syd left when he passed away.
1:57:32 sometimes having that connection with the crowd feels nearly as good as being world champion. Magical moment. I don’t know but I feel like they speed up chase the sun nowadays compared to this.
Any chance we might get to see the entire 2nd Round match between Phil Taylor v Michael Smith from the 2014 World Matchplay (featuring The Power's 10th TV 9-darter)? It WAS up on TH-cam but was taken down later.
Fun fact: this was the first pdc world darts championship at the ally pally I think they've updated the building after the incident between James wade and Adrian Lewis with the breeze on the stage thing
During the walk on, when WM shouts come on into the camera, does anyone think he looks like the guy saying I'm home as he is about to blow up the alien ship in Independence Day?
There's a mistake there on the scoreboard. In the last leg Mardle starts with a 70, so 501-70=431, but the scoreboard says 416 (that can be achived if you throw 85). So in fact he was 15 points ahead the real score.
You're right I thought that too but Bruce spendley (the referee) called out 85 whether that was his mistake and the second dart landed in the five I'm not sure
This happened when Phil was going through hard personal times, Phil his darts were falling short of the treble and his finishing was terrible, however this doesnt say Wayne didnt deserve to win it was a fantastic game he never gave up and Phil was gracious in defeat.
1:53:05 “Folks!!! Will you stop being silly!!!” You can see Bruce just had enough of the crowds keep playing up and people just have no respect to dart players whatsoever…..
I'm reasonably new to the darts history, but not to darts,The internet was still very young, when I played in clubs & pubs in competitions , for fun.Ive recently caught up a bit with streaming ! I wonder whether 🤔 this Victory was Wayne's Finest Hour ? , He played the match in commendable & remarkable spirit ,& perhaps 🤔 was ahead of his time ? ,tell me, but his walk on was so similar to Snakebites antics ? , Well done Wayne 👏 ✔, World titles don't divine eveything ,in life, You beat Phil Taylor, who was sat on 13 World titles, still had 3 to go ! , Phil had no problems 😊 with congratulations for the winner because I think he appreciated your bubbly spirit ,no matter how each leg went ! 😀 I will enjoy your current match commentary all the more, Your well qualified 👍 to make the call.
Mardles greatest achievement, beating Taylor to get to a semi final. Crying as if he's won the thing only to get blasted out again in the semi's by a one hit wonder. God I hate Mardle.
Worst commentator in modern darts. Criticises everything that players try to do during games like going for unfavourable checkouts and such, despite never winning anything himself. He talks like he’s some kind of darting god because he beat Taylor lol
Phil Taylor has spoken very highly of him as a young player. He got wound up too easily I think but he's good and certainly PDC material. AND he beat Phil this match
What a fantastic match, Mardle enjoying the audience the whole match, no matter how the situation was.
it was great
Too bad he choked in the semifinals.
Sid Waddell and John Gwynne, the legendary commentator lineup
The classic duo
Legendary my arse, they ruined the game with their pathetic ramblings
Darts is better off without them
@@billybonkers94 waddell was good but then just went on about the lie of the darts or stacking every single throw which became very annoying , Gwynne was ok
Agreed, darts wouldn’t be where it is today without Sid Waddell

Mardle is just awesome on stage. Love it.
Brilliant charisma. I've watched this so many times. 1 of my favourite matches of all time. The underdog and 1 if my sporting heroes.

Tim Ockeloen stupid comment
@@dp5142 he is right
Yea, especially the crowd favoring players and start booing players is the most disgusting development we've seen over the past few years.

A golden (short) era of darts. Special nights. 🎯 ❤

Wayne's 180 celebrations
Brilliant
7:35 pure athleticism
I like Mardle, a great character
He really is!!
I miss wayne in pdc today, he was a great karactär in dart sociality🎯
RIP John Gwynne
Last leg was a miscount. Mardle scored 70 first 3 darts, yet they left him on 416. This will forever haunt me now 😂
I couldn’t believe Mardle lost the semi, he was clear to the trophy after that
1:12:36 - Mardle steps on Phil's foot :)

Taylor had a real bad day at the office here.
Wayne make his day bad, because he never give up the match!
Would make my day if you could upload Wade Lewis 2012 semi final or 2011 final thanks very much
People mock mardle yet he performed in every big game he had other than that semi final against shepard.
Wow. What a match! Has to be one of the great ones?
This was a historic moment, as it marked the first time that The Power had ever failed to reach the World Darts Championship Final.
Incorrect, he didn't reach the World Darts Championship Final in 1991 (Priestley vs Bristow) or 1993 (Lowe vs Warriner).
