I'm about to do the exact same custom, great job. The only critique I have is on black customs I always put a couple coats of black leather dye before I put down the black paint because over time when the paint cracks it will still be black underneath instead of the original color of the shoe, if that makes sense. These still came out bangin. Thanx for the vid
You talk about how good the toe box on these are. I concur 100%. They shape of the toe box on these are as close to the OG '87's as they can be. Also the actual height of the elephant print is spot on, just like the OGs. I don't know about you but I got a pair of these in 87 when the came out. I was 13 years old then. I do not understand why it's so difficult in all the retros to get the overall shape and design the same as the OG's. It's always disappointing when a new retro drops and they don't get the shape of the toe right. A lot of the retro toe box's kind of have the shape of a steel toed boot. They never seem to get the sleekness and/or the aerodynamics, or even sometimes they don't even match the color too well. Lets hope this continues on future retros as we move on. Peace

I'm not the greatest artist either and I couldn't draw a stick figure if I tried, so I'm with you. Lol. I've used black leather dye as a base coat for a few of my customs and it definitely works, especially on boost midsoles. I usually went with a couple of layers.

Make sure those areas are prepped for sure. Use a deglazer or acetone on them so that the paint will adhere to it. If you need to, wet sand those areas or use a finishing grit sandpaper to prep them.

What paints would you suggest using for those parts? Appreciate any help you can give me and this video.

I did mine and it took three coats to get it right for me. I used a toothpick that really helped with being precise.

The grey on the tongue is more of a light grey, which Angelus has in their product lineup.
So in the video to me it kinda looks like regular black and the link is for flat black which one did you use so I order the right one thanks

I would use Angelus’ Matte Finisher actually. It gives you a more flexible finish.

I do sometimes, depending on the shoe and what the shoe is being used for. It'll definitely makes the paint a little more durable.
