I've got a 30 micron pre filter it is great for catching water and large particulates. The Toyota filters with their smaller micron catch the smaller stuff. My pre filter has a clear bowl you can see the quality of the fuel, you can see water, sediment and catch it before it does damage. With Toyota's filters it's a closed system, you dont see the fuel coming out of the bowser, or the state of it when it's in your vehicle.
Also just because Toyota have done it a certain way doesnt mean it's the best, maybe good enough to keep service costs down so it looks more attractive at sale time.Maybe good enough for overseas cleaner fuel types. Who knows, but i love having a window i can see my fuel and sediment and drain the water out of the system on the spot instead of playing guess the state of the filter at 40,000km when you pull it.

This is why on hilux and hiace 1kv-ftv vehicles have a drain on the fuel filter housing as the bottom is a water separator and should be drained every service.

*Many 2KD-FTV users in my region install a Pre-Filter / Water Separator from Medium Truck... it has clean glass bowl which u can see the diesel fluid inside it.*

Great video mate, my MN Triton has just clocked 350k, at 300 I had diesel care pull the injectors and test, all still in spec. I did replace them anyway but my point is, no second filter, regular maintenance. Keep up the good work

I have a 2008 HIlux 4x4 155000 ks due to water in the fuel i need a full fuel system replacement and fuel tank clean quote 8500 to 9000. No filter stops water so i will fit a water watch with a alarm this is not a second filter its a water separator with very little restriction western filters has the same but it is a filter as well with a water warning light.

I change my factory diesel filter on my LC 200 every 15k .I cut the old element open and regularly find large particles of crap, no way the fuel bowser filter is 30 microns. I used fill in Brisbane inner city and the diesel bowser filter hasn't been removed for years the thread and securing clamp hasn't the paint cracked. The filter assembly was painted many years ago.

If you travel the outback a lot then a pre-filter is good insurance

Have heard that putting an extra filter on will cause more stress on the pump to drag the fuel through.

No filter will separate water from fuel. You need a water separator with a clear bowl so you can see when it needs emptying.

If you've got a car with 3 filters that's still getting water through, you can't just say that the aftermarket one isn't doing its job without also saying the other 2 "super well engineered" factory ones aren't doing their job either. They're either all guilty together or there's another separate issue there somewhere. No system is perfect to start with, and there's always room for improvement...it's just whether the cost is worth it to the individual

Aren't the factory filters designed for European fuel which to my knowledge is cleaner fuel than what Australia gets?? So there for factory filters aren't engineered for Australian fuel??

Funny how toyota spent millions yet we have to put a 10mm plate in it to stop carbon.
