I'm Ni dominant and loved this video! Subscribing and going to watch the other 7 functions! I have never seen a better explanation of Ni, so I trust the others will be just as informative. The way I see my own Ni play out all the time is - 1) take in sensory information 2) filter down to only the information that is relevant to the idea currently dominating my thoughts 3) bounce that sensory information off my big idea to see if it validates or challenges the idea 4) modify the big idea if needed, and discard the sensory information once fully processed (my memory of how I arrived at certain conclusions is always awful) 5) after the big idea has stewed in this sensory-powered crock-pot long enough, a "truth" is churned out, and I use it in combination with my secondary function Te (I'm INTJ) to bring it out into the world
Thank you for the comment Eric, I appreciate it. I've tried to explain the other functions as best I could in how I see them manifest behaviorally/cognitively in the first slot of those respective types. The slots are so important. As far as INFJ/INTJ, the dominant Ni will have similar characteristics but for INTJ's specifically it will be supported by Te which heavily influences its output. They are very good at visualizing models and systems in their heads, and I've noticed they tend to be drawn towards anything with a logical structure, especially architecture, science, and musical compositions. Te will solidify the insights on a practice level and want to bring it to fruition.
Thanks for this good picture! A complementary analogy: Using a chunk of info from the external world NI doms prepare an elaborated-spiced meal in the kitchen of their minds... using SE as mid-term check function can help make sense of the end result ... for most of people
If you want to understand NI then look into psychic remoteviewing. I'm an INTJ and once I began investing remoteviewing it became evident that my intuition is in fact remoteviewing. I am opening my mind to the "signal line" and through that process gaining information about the future and the past. Recent experiments indicate that the human brain has a quantum component so don't dismiss "psychic" anything simply because of past association.
@@henryspragge Hi Henry, where Ni is more focused on one scenario what can be and goes into detail to visualize the perfect future, Ne is more like brainstorming and seeing multiple scenario's. Ni, because of it's link the Se reality, is typically looking for a tangible future, i.e. something the Ni users wants to achieve in the real world (can be a real product, or the ideal career, or perfect execution of a sport), while Ne can also ponder about purely theoretical possibilities, and came come across as 'not realistic' to the Ni user. This is valid for NP's. Ne in SJ's can express itself as being creative, learning a new skill, or seeing possible bears at the road. that's why so many SJ's are concerned something can go wrong.
To be accurate : Ni is seeing what will be(they are more in the sure side). Ne is more on the could be because they multiply options which makes them not giving importance and sureness more importance than the joy of possibilities. Se is seeing what is.
I was in that half asleep, half awake state a few nights ago and was able to design several new products right down to the last detail. In my mind right now I can picture those items just as if I had seen them a few minutes ago in another room. I design products with 3D software for a living. These particular products are the results of some ideas I recently had for products to develope to sell on Etsy.
I analogize the "Ni" on the diagram on the right of your chalkboard to quantum physics "quantum tunneling," when energy particles eventually bore through a barrier and unexpectedly, out pops an entire (conclusion) universe! Also the analogy of "quantum time" where Ni (the great Eye!), outside of time and space, views the individual fleeting ghost-like Planck unit events of time -- and sees the past … the present … and the future simultaneously … to make a prescient prognostication. “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” (Winston Churchill) Perceptive Ni-Se, taking in large quantities of data, often unconsciously, then teams up with judging Ti (introverted thinking -- with its classification, categorisation, listing, analysis, etc.), and "distills" an answer (by means of the still's pot boiler gaseous phase and condenser coil), and out drips the truth(!). As an INFJ, my greatest advantage (Shh!) utilizing the above is strategy. I will sometimes dip into the dark side of things (because I can control it) to obtain results.
That's a great analogy Ray. Quantum mechanics/physics is highly conceptual and fascinating, especially Planck. Bohr is often typed as an INFJ on a lot of websites but they really just rely on quotes which I don't think is enough. Dipping into the dark side is kind of like probing, and Ni does really like to do that. It can be quite invasive and intrusive which can put a lot of people off, and it can be difficult to explain how one arrives at a conclusion using Ni because of its subjectivity. Its so important to remember Ni operates on an axis with Se so I'm glad you brought that up. There's an old proverb that goes something like "Knowing without doing is not really knowing" similar to "Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing." -Goethe

@Psychocandy I'm curious, i have learned a lot about my "type" even re-taking several different test and searching and trying to find anything that resembles how i think, and haven't really found anything yet to really put a nail in it. so my question / thought process / inner workings of my mind/ (i am having trouble right here for instance) when i think i see pictures, and ideas and "other things" that form a concept in my mind clear as if i were looking at picture on the wall sometimes. my issue is then i have to "translate" that into words that "normal" people can understand, and even though there are words for "things" there are sometimes no words for what i am trying to convey. which makes me try to string random words that have a "part" in it but are not the "whole picture" like my problem above, my question /thought process/inner workings of my mind, are one ideal and those words do not fully give credit to how i am thinking of it. anyway. it perplexes me and i have no way of "truly" expressing myself through words, which is super frustrating. (i often feel stupid also when speaking because of this.) so i was wondering if maybe you have heard of anything like this? (oh i am INFJ-T)
Your explanation of the Ni/Se axis is very good, Psychocandy. While you were talking and I was listening to your explanation, I was visualizing a stereo system in your car and what you might be listening to and so I imagined turning on my radio to listen to you. Ni and Se are a bit like the stereo speakers in our car, I think. Most people use their Se which is like only listening to one side of your stereo speaker. (and do they still call car radio speakers, 'stereo'? lol sigh, I am oldish now). Anyhow or any woohoo voodoo, our Ni is not woohoo voodoo but listening to both sides of our sensing ability or the sides of your senses that include more than just the 'comes with the car' package of our five senses. If you will turn on both sides of the volume of your speakers or senses then you might hear both your Se and your Ni. However, if you do begin to listen more to your other senses and if you think about the Cause and Effect (Rudyard Kipling did) because you know that everything has happened before, then you will be able to hear your Ni a bit better but spoiler alert, people still won't listen to you, well...until two weeks later when they ask how you know what you know and why can't "we" harness this power for good? grok?
Grok! It always depends on the person, they can visualize a birthday present for a friend, or malice aforethought. The functions are influential, not deterministic.
Being a Self Realized INFJ is both a blessing and a curse. Especially as abrupt, exponential climate change and the 6th mass extinction accelerate. Extroverted sensates comprise something like 80% of the population. Most politicians and the big oil CEOS who are driving our extinction have no clue and can't even begin to see the big picture. It's too late now. The great visionary scientists James Hansen and Carl Sagan delivered a strong warning to Congress in 1987 that climate change threatens the very existence of all Life on Earth. Here we are 35 years later and no one has lifted a finger. 26 COPS and no emissions reductions whatsoever. This would not be the case if the extroverted sensates valued the intuitive visionaries. This produces a conflict for me. My visionary abilities and my intuition inform me that time is running short for homo sapiens. Yet, the sensates won't lift finger because they cannot perceive it until they themselves are directly affected. As human habitat and the ability to grow, store, and ship food and water are destroyed and hundreds of millions begin dying, the sensates will remain in denial, yet their denial will not prevent their deaths.
