    You're right, Ni definitely isn't the more "scientific" of the two. As a Ni dom, I often find myself making assumptions and leaps of reasoning and generalizing based on passive observation and hazy "vibes" (i.e. fairly little hard evidence), and yes, I nearly always take the shortcut. Si doms are the ones who have the naturally detail-oriented, meticulous and methodical approach that fits far better with the "scientific" descriptor.

    • @ashraf6435
      @ashraf6435 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Ironically, your use of 'Scientific' and 'details' are very presumptuous. Neither function is not 'detailed', your criteria for 'detail' is the problem, you're applying a universal criterion/standard to both functions. All functions are necessarily 'detail'-oriented, Ni & Si are incommensurable. To use logic, Ni is an inductive function, it hones in on 'motifs', those are its 'details', both functions have a tendency to generalize, what's 'undetailed' about Ni from an Si dom's perspective is mirrored by the Ni dom, I think it's much better if we look at the functions 'In action' rather than the conclusions/'judgements' that may or may not result from them, as the guy said in the beginning.

And in the end, I have to go back all the way to explain to them step by step why I choose that answer. Or I just let they do all their way and fail, and then they can consider my answer. Hi, I think we have similar views of Ni. This is how I categorized the functions.
    Pe - photographic perception. Observes information at the moment, like a static picture.
    Pi - chronological perception. Observes information overtime, continuous perception.
    N - perception of essence; absorption of underlying meaning that encapsulates the details. Absorbs information in low detail, making them appear vague and ambiguous, making it more open minded to incoming information. Ne is photopgraphic, a low quality image that sees the essence of something. Ni is chronological, a low quality gif that perceives the essence formed overtime like Jung's archetypes. In general, intuition tend to be slower to act since it requires associations with new/old information to capture the essence.
    S - perception of details; absorption of sensory input by the five senses. Absorbs information in high detail, making it clear and distinct yet heavy enough to be closed on new information. Se is photograhic, a high quality image that captures exactly the details they saw in the moment. Si is chronological, a high quality video recording that captures the sensory input they gathered overtime. In general, sensing is faster to act since it only makes realizations based on the sensory input given.
    I'm still working on my descriptions. Feel free to correct me :)

  • @pigdev
    @pigdev ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The best way I'd describe Introverted Intution, and perception functions in general, is:
    How do you gather data and how do you draw conclusions?
    Si-Ne is the most scientific: you come out with idea(gathering ideas through intuition, Ne) and you test it so draw a conclusion about it through your senses: "Would a pineable + ginger juice taste good?" someone with Si-Ne would make the juice and taste it and would make their conclusion through their senses.
    Se-Ni way less scientific and is more principle based: let's gather actual sensory data to come out with an idea, and then through our intuition we will imagine how will this look/sound/taste...like: ginger is spicy, neutral, and can be smooth on the tongue, while pineapple is punchy, sweet, and acid. So mixing these two may cause these sensations on the tongue.
    The thing why we fail HARD is that we are always on this "may/might/based on/guessing" mode. Without enough Se to gather data to build accurate assumptions, we will always miss something in our guessing. But we can guess really well with few information because of that. Since we have this weakness of "needing sensory data to draw conclusions" we workaround it by understanding the underlying principles. For instance, people with high Ni tend to make investments and be more future oriented because they understand the principles of a stock company, or the consequences of time in, let's say, interest rates. While people with high Si will make more conservative movements because they've seen how, based on other's experiments probably, how to invest. They've **seen** while Ni **understands**.
    People with low Si will make bold moves even tho THEY'VE SEEN it going wrong in the past, but they had NEW IDEAS of how it can go right this time.
    People with low Ni will make bold moves even if they UNDERSTAND that something has a pattern and behave in such a way, but they aren't SEEING this pattern in the moment.

    thank you, I needed this. Laziness has been my biggest problem, and it can be SO easy to give into "short-cuts" with pre-mature generalizations/out-of-reality conclusions. This is especially easy when you have a higher functioning Ni-Fe (infj) where you think you know everything about people when in fact you dont... and assumed conclusions HAVE to be challenged - wow this can be difficult but it's so needed. High functioning Ni can be a gateway for valuable wisdom or great naivety. When I don't want to be conscious of my life, be it heart-break or the pain of healing, it can be so easy to forget about learning and exercising of Ni. And so easy to believe a false conclusion without Si-ing again to refine it. Appreciate the work.

    Your explanation is the best I've seen. Perfect description of normal Ni. But in my opinion, your explanation doesn't go far enough to explain the "woo woo."
    As you say, Ni is a diffuse, peripheral look at things within the mind. You know what else uses a diffuse, non-tightly focused form of vision? Are you familiar with "Magic Eye" illusions? An image that seems like a repetitive jumble of nothing significant until suddenly a 3-D sailboat or something pops out? One second, you're looking at this seemingly pointless image without really focusing on it. The next moment, there's this completely unmistakeable, incredibly vivid 3-D image.
    That is what Ni at its best can be like. One second, you're idly, diffusely surveying bits and pieces of stuff in your head. The next moment, a completely unmistakeable, incredibly vivid construct has crystallized out. That kind of insight only happens occasionally, but the times when it does are what get called "woo woo" moments.
    This also explains the occasional compulsive need to do frantic research. Sometimes you get just a partial image. Your internal data set is missing parts that you need in order to be able to see the entire Magic Eye image. Research is needed to fill in the gaps to see what the image is (or to see if you're just deluding yourself).
    This also explains why intuitive insights can be so hard to explain. Ever tried to explain a Magic Eye image to someone who just can't see it? Same thing. And at least with a Magic Eye image, all the data you need is perfectly laid out right in front of you. With an intuitive insight, the person who can't see it might not have all the necessary data or might even have some bad data in their head that scrambles things for them.

    Ni- laser focus.
    Interesting video, you add the nuance to the subject. That Ni is that, but also so much more.
    To get the full story requires more digging.
    Reminds me of the BLIND MEN & ELEPHANT PARABLE:
    In a distant village, a long time ago, there lived six blind men. One day the villagers announced, “Hey, there is an elephant in the village today.”
    They had never seen or felt an elephant before and so decided, “Even though we would not be able to see it, let us go and feel it anyway.” And thus they went down to the village to touch and feel the elephant to learn what animal this was and they described it as follows:
    “Hey, the elephant is a pillar,” said the first man who touched his leg.
    “Oh, no! it is like a rope,” argued the second after touching the tail.
    “Oh, no! it is like a thick branch of a tree,” the third man spouted after touching the trunk.
    “It is like a big hand fan” said the fourth man feeling the ear.
    “It is like a huge wall,” sounded the fifth man who groped the belly .
    “It is like a solid pipe,” Said the sixth man with the tusk in his hand.
    They all fell into heated argument as to who was right in describing the big beast, all sticking to their own perception. A wise sage happened to hear the argument, stopped and asked them “What is the matter?” They said, “We cannot agree to what the elephant is like.”
    The wise man then calmly said, “Each one of you is correct; and each one of you is wrong. Because each one of you had only touched a part of the elephant’s body. Thus you only have a partial view of the animal. If you put your partial views together, you will get an idea of what an elephant looks like.”

    I've always used the example of a supernova vs a black hole.
    Ne starts from a singularity until it exploded outwards from that initial source of inspiration, gathering concepts, ideas, theories, ect.
    Ni starts from the outside, gathering concrete data in order to compress it into a singularity.

      Does this also mean that an INTP who is attached to their Si via their codec could be very attached to whatever logical system they have? Because I can be very married to my logical conclusions and ideas, but I'm also very good at picking out the logical details pertaining to someone's arguments. One of my most infamous arguing points with people is "but what if there's THIS factor right here? We need to take THAT into account?" Though I can certainly dip into generalizations and simplification, I also have a debatably better grasp on my fine-tuned "scalpel" of perception. If I see a TH-cam comment I disagree with, for example, I'll often skim over it to find a point in which I can point out the flaws in, despite my overall poor track-record with externalized details.
      I know that was kind of a mess, and I know I continue to spam you with questions, lol. But if any sort of meaning is gathered from this, what would you say that lines up with?

    hello! I saw this video is 2 years ago, I'm an INTJ person and when you said about Ni being like a floating view until there is sensing for focus, that made a lot of sense. I feel that Ni is like an ocean and to live with it is to sail in this ocean, this ocean would be full of glass bottles and as I pass by it, sometimes a bottle catches my attention (sensing ), I pick it up and open it and this bottle there is a piece of paper and when reading what is written on the paper, sometimes the text on the paper is linked to another text that I have literally seen before, other times the pattern in that text reminds me of another that makes me want to anticipate or fill in those gaps of text and I collect these bottles, many times because they resonate with me and with what I feel useful. And it is a continuous and unending act, often exhausting and sometimes focusing on the physical world and the sensations that my senses can provide me makes me leave that ocean / mind, but inevitably I always return there. I don't know if Introverted Intuitive Dominant Function types are more like that, but that's the general way of how my mind works.

    I remember a few years ago I came to the ‘unfortunate’ conclusion i was likely an INTJ despite thinking i was an ENTP. But it was the study of the Ni function that really swayed me to the truth. I don’t know how to explain Ni dom, and you did amazingly well. But the feeling when your Ni dominant function takes over is so...it can feel otherworldly. I get so laser focused on what I want - what i want to achieve - that I ignore everything else and am laser focused on the big picture/end goal. Eventually, the minor details come into play but i’m always (unconsciously) looking for the fastest way to get to said goal/achievement. At my worst, it can get to the point i become blind to everything around me, leaving a trailblaze, either unaware or indifferent to the possible destruction I may have caused due to my own ambitions.

I don't make this mistake nearly as often as I used to, but he never made this mistake to being with. After studying a topic for a long amount of time I will have a lot of objectively correct knowledge on the topic, but I often also have knowledge that I assumed to be correct for no particularly good reason that I have to then disregard. Kind of frustrating. It is as if I honed in on a specific detail that I was not able to immediately get an answer on, so I speculated what the answer could be and chose what I thought sounded the best.

    Harry, I've been trying to find a way to describe the process of Ni lately in a way that others can understand. Since it's such an irrational process, it is one of the most difficult concepts to explain.
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on it...
    Have you ever used crayons to color a picture when you were younger where you completely fill up the page with some image in lots of colors, then color over the entire page with black?
    Imagine this black page as an Ni canvas before Se gathers any data or knowledge.
    Removing the black exposes understanding of objective reality, so as Se gathers sensory data, it is like scraping small lines into the black, revealing slivers of the rich, sensory picture behind it. These slivers are data points. Ni users don't interpret or attempt to consciously keep track of these data points. Once Se has revealed enough of the picture to understand what the picture is, we have knowledge.
    Now imagine multiple, parallel glass walls out in front of you, one after the next as you look through all of them together. Each of these walls are covered in similar pictures, representing the procession of time, showing the revealed reality through time, uncovered by Se and projected with Te and Ni.
    Now turn out the lights and instead of seeing all of it with your eyes, you just kind of feel it, or "know" it. There are some who say they seem to experience visual representations of this knowledge in some symbolic form... But not in an objective form.
    When Te needs answers, and if enough of reality is known, we can attempt an answer. We can see how this moves through time almost instantaneously. We even utilize our thinking and feeling functions with this knowledge to play out scenarios and make decisions about what is possible.
    Ni hero types are much better at this than others because of practice.
    The downside is, if we get cocky, we can jump to conclusions before we should. We respect expedience and can act on too little data unless we start to pay more respect to hard data over our personal but subjective "certainty".

    It's the eye. It senses impressions of things, that gets stored into your mind, automatically. That's how it builds awareness like people say. Hence it gets the processes that happen behind the scenes. Thats actually where the intuitive mind connects, with Ne this process is targeted directly on the external world,a real time process, for Ni it happens internally, i believe,as it sifts through the impression it accrued. Then suddenly the click happens.
    At least that's what I have seen it as.
    The sooner Ni has conceived the connection,its role probably ends there. Me personally, I get high on those moments.

      @Tified96 Yeah, I literally talk to myself out loud to have another way of exercising that way of thinking/monolog. The way we think our thoughts out, write our thoughts out, and speak our thoughts out are 3 different froms of thinking that activate different parts of the brain, i.e. vocal cords, hand, hands (body language while speaking), mouth, etc... . The subjective mind treats them differently, also. Your subconscious knows that when you think your thoughts out, no one else hears it, when you speak your thoughts out everyone hears it, and when you write your thoughts out you can pick and choose who hears/reads it (like a middle ground between the other 2). Knowing that I have 3 separate tools to process the same information, I want to use them all because 3 tools are better than 1. Thanks for replying!

It makes me think that I might be an introverted intuitive with low Si dip but it’s really frustrating to not be able to tell for sure what type I am. I think it's a common assumption that Ni-doms are good at guessing games... I actually never win those because the Ne-doms are bouncing all over every imaginable hypothesis and they often wind up accidentally arriving at the right answer before I have even opened up my mouth (yes, very annoying).
    It's true Ni can be naughty about knuckling down and getting invested in present things that matter when it's so much easier to generalize, judge from a distance and stay un-involved. I'm glad I work with animals as much I do because it forces me to (sometimes literally!) get my hands dirty and, well, care...

Ni a machine that notices them, wants to make one good thing out of them and Te is the machine's arms. The arms make nice knittings out of the clouds. Am I onto something? I like to think as a divergent ENFJ I have the best of both worlds: NiTi-, NiTi+ & SiTi+. I'd actually attribute any originality I have to my high specificity of SiTi & the exploration this engenders. I can ask the questions at the behest of a rational agenda with TiNi+ & explore and 'hunker' down utilising SiTi+. What Harry is basically saying is that Ni can make erroneous overgeneralisations which lack Si specificity & Si can be too tunnel visioned & miss the bigger picture, thus falsifying it's Ti or Fi conclusions without the broad scope of Ni. I actually attribute much of my growth to 'developing' or rather consolidating my SiTi+; it really helps to be able to extrapolate from my vast swath of NiTi- theorems. I hope to contribute in some way academically in the future (I've had a meta analysis published before but of course it was nothing original) so a girl can hope!

  • @brucebruno842

    I describe Ni being like a magic-8-ball. It's round like a head You ask it a question, flip it over; which is like zoning out or into your head, and you wait for an answer. Like the MBTI answering part of the questions, you can get a variation of answers. They come floating up from the depths. You don't necessarily need to word your query in question form though. I usually just pause then wait, and some of the time it just butts in. It will even reveal things to me in the form of a rhetorical question that sometimes I don't realize is rhetorical. The black and white symbolize the conscious and unconscious mind, and the figure 8 or infinity symbol symbolizes the infinite or continuous communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The magic-8-ball was definitely created with Ni in mind and is a great visual metaphor for Ni. I say that my Ni is always right, but I'm not. Not even close! My interpretation of my Ni can be wrong, and over time I get better at understanding what it is trying to tell me. Hindsight being 20/20 helps me understanding how I misinterpreted my Ni and as I get older I get better at interpreting what it is telling me and I tend to listen to it more instead of pushing in another direction thinking that I know better. I now surf more with the wave instead of against it. My Ni is more in line with my true nature. In the past, my interpretation, more of the time, would go in the wrong direction or I just didn't want to hear what I know it's telling me and a mixture of both would happen. My interpretation gets better over time because my Si/conclusion of my Ni has more to go off of.

      An interesting quirk with Si users and other Ni-unconscious types is a tendency to use an element of 'chance' to essentially 'spark' an unconscious Ni into motion!

    • @brucebruno842
      @brucebruno842 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CognitivePersonality What I am describing doesn't involve chance. It is very accurate. I see it as a Ni-Si combo with PoLR Te that gives a set of potentials when dealing with people; which is my main focus. People have the potential to behave in different ways. Growing up around a lot of children at a very early I developed the ability to predict potential behavior patterns. I'm not super great at it. It almost feels like something that's accurate/Ni-Si, but also very weak/Te and/or has a subtly to it. It presents the answer or answers in the form of potentials that range from most likely to least sometimes, but rarely. Most of the time the potentials are in an equal spectrum of negative, neutral, positive or vise verse positive, neutral, negative. The spectrum and range of potentials remind me of a magic-8-ball. I realize that the visual metaphor seems inaccurate for just Ni, but the way I use it with Ni-Si and Polr Te has this spectrum effect like the answers to a magic-8-ball, and they appear from the depths/subconscious/unconscious/right-brain. It also has a predictive quality to it. I developed this so well at an early age that when I was in my mid-teens I would sometimes actually get angry at the other person for a moment, in my head, for not responding the way I predicted. Almost immediately I realize I shouldn't be angry with them. 1w5 on the Enneagram. I learned to not have such rigid and unrealistic expectations; which actually helped me get better or more realistic with this ability. It's also a poor metaphor in the sense that this isn't how my mind works the majority of the time; which is probably why it sticks out to me. It's a here and there thing, but a constant of sorts.

    • @AnyaAnnika67
      @AnyaAnnika67 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What your describing sounds like unconscious Ni or Ni in oppositional position. I'm typed by CPT as a divergent ENFJ. When conscious, experiencing Ni is not like a revelatory unconscious force, it is rather very conscious. Remember the INFJ is primarily an abstract rationalist with convergent Ni-Ti consistently formulating new theorems from Ni-Ti substrate built upon Se-Fe observation.

    • @brucebruno842
      @brucebruno842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Tified96 Yes, the part where I described me "interpreting" my Ni wasn't a fully formulated/processed thought. In the past, I was actually deliberately ignoring or trying to reinterpret what my Ni was telling me because I didn't want to hear what it was saying. Like when I was 11 years old, it would pose a question, "Would you ever think about becoming a priest?" I wanted to get married and have children, and at the time, the 2 were in conflict, so I would purposefully ignore it or try and assign a different interpretation. Even though I knew better. Ni is a consciously subconscious cognitive function, so the magic 8 ball metaphor is the best I have, metaphor wise, when describing how I use my Ni. I surely can't explain how I experience it since it is an abstract and unworded process. I can only use a metaphor to describe how I sort of use it and sort of experience it. As an INFJ, I see my Ni as lens, my Se as a nuanced filter over that lens (like reading nuanced body language or being good with esthetics), my Fe as the information that I focus on through the lens with the nuanced filter over it (encoding), and my Ti as the tool I use on (decoding) the information coming through the lens with the nuanced filter over it. It's not that straightforward or completely accurate, but it does capture some of how I use and/or view my functions. Thanks for reading my long comment and replying! I wasn't expecting anyone to actually read it, lol. I was just trying to process what I was thinking in a different way by writing/typing it out.

      Hi I'm an Ni dom and thought you might appreciate my snapshot view of what Ni is from my experience at this point in my life. If not, no hard feelings.
      I think that a key concept, if not the key concept, concerning Ni is....perspective. The other conceptual foil I identify with is "a need and ability to get to the heart of the matter at hand". Now that last one may in fact be something that you as a Ti dom also identify with. Keep in mind that as an INFJ Ti is my tertiary function. I often think of the relationship between my Ti and my Ni as that of a research assistant to a tenured professor. But I don't want to get long winded here so in short let me conclude by stating that I like to look at a myriad of perspectives on a certain issue, topic, problem, etc. So looking at one thing from as many angles as possible to get at the core or essence of that thing. Sometimes I can do this reflexively ie rather quickly. Other times I need time to quietly, or subconsciously, ponder it until the insight arrives. In alchemical terms it is very much like a distillation process with the goal of hopefully attaining the quintessence of whatever happens to be under consideration.

    I don't know if I agree with this analysis. Since introverted intuition is paired with extraverted sensing in a function stack, I believe that extraverted sensing gathers data while the introverted intuition narrows down/arrives at an abstract conclusion based on the broad sensory data. Based on my interpretation of his analysis, he made it seem like introverted intuition both gathered the data and arrived at the conclusion which doesn't make sense to me.

      Ni is actually adjoined to a codec so either Ti or Fi but yes Ni & Se are on an inextricable axis. For the INFJ for example, Ni-Ti act at the behest of data gathered by SeFe. Two perceiving functions can't evaluate anything (ie Ni Se). He did say explicitly that you need an adjoining codec to evaluate that which is perceived.

    I think of Ni differently. It was put together with careful thinking process and conclusions, but losing the details of how that conclusion was reached in the first place. This makes it more efficient to use the conclusions right away to derive more conclusions without back tracing from the beginning. The user will forget how they got these conclusions in their head but they know it's reliable because it exists in their head with a reliable tag. Ask them how they got it and they can't find the answer without recreating the path of which they walked through to get to this conclusion and it is difficult to remember all of it. Ni is like a library of solutions to problems without the steps of how they were solved before. Ni is efficient thinking to build up more solutions on top of eachother, or composes solutions from other solutions.

    There is a sort of manifest trade-off in biological optics. To see better in the dark, the eye must have more rods (light/dark contrast receptors) and the immediate trade-off is less space for cones (not just color but also detail). So you have the owl, that sees incredibly well in the dark, but in fuzzier focus. Versus the eagle or even pigeon, with relatively greater cone density and higher visual acuity in the day. The analogy can go deeper when you extend "seeing in the dark" to the "unseen world," as in the abstract and further when you consider contrast signals play a major role in motion detection.

    It seems to me that the Ni or Si both serve to store and organize the data that we gather from our external world. There is a bias that Si is more concrete and grounded in reality than the Ni. But how can this be when data stored by the Si comes from the Ne, a wide impressionistic lens of the outer world? In contrast, the Ni gets its information from Se, focused and detailed lens of outside reality. True, what the Ni infers from its collection of data is impressionistic, a broad brushstroke of the data stored. So, whether we begin with an impression (Ne) or end with an impression (Ni) both pairings (Ne-Si or Se-Ni) are susceptible to gaps in reality.
    As an Ni dominant, I view the Ni storage as impressions of all the external experiences (Se); however, in order to communicate these impressions to be in accordance with accepted logical rules (TE), a Te dominant with an Ni must 'dip' into the weaker Si function in order to recall specifics and bring a sense order to the Ni impressions. In contrast, a Si dominant must dip into its weaker Ni function in order to bring the lens back out and see the bigger picture once again.

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ni and Si store relative to the codec (Ti; Fi) to which they are assigned - if it is more sensationalistic the codec is Fi, whereas if it is more detached and cerebral the codec is Ti. Si-XX will tend to miss details outside of the small picture, whereas Ni-XX will get the big picture but be blind to all the details involved :)

      Cognitive Personality Theory
      Let me try this again.
      I am an INTJ. I view the Ni and Si as libraries and data organizing facilities. While Ni might drive the overall direction of how I see my life going (Ni-Fi), on a day to day basis, the Te is in the driver seat. Te needs to solve an existing problem. It does this by collecting external data (Se). That external data (Se) is stored in the Ni (the main storage or library of an Ni dom). However, when the problem that I’m trying to solve is something that I deal with on a day to day basis, the information is stored and organized for quick access in the Si (smaller and more organized data storage). However, larger or longer term problems/equations that need to be solved happen in the Ni. The issue with the Ni is that the answer is received as one giant “a-ha” or impressionistic image that is difficult for the Te to effectively communicate without first breaking up the image and organizing it in a way that can be communicated. This is when the Ni must pivot to the Si.

      For instance I feel in some cases Ni can be localized. For example as a musician I believe Ni helps me to truly develop and write in ways that really capture the depth of nuances of my feelings. Yet when asked to describe why I chose to write something in a such an odd way I can only say it more accurately gets the "point" across. However after a time I can go back and analyze what I've created and connect the ideas in the music to my feeling states. Yet this happens in a flow state. How can Ni store so much subjective/objective information and in an instance connect ideas and patterns across such a broad landscape of ideas, patterns, and feelings? It seems as this function will never be able to truly be pinned down.

    Harry, is it possible that the reason that Ni is often an "unconscious" function could be attributed to how difficult it is for a Ni dom to be aware of the function itself. I feel like a lot of so-called "Ni" doms are codec dominants that have a convergent Ni (or are actually Si doms), and many real Ni doms think that they are Si doms because they are more aware of the Si they dip into than the unfocused Ni. Ni seems to be unique due to how awareness of its existence decreases as the conscious employment of it increases.

    Paraphrasing a little, Ni is the realm from which the deductive method is possible (from the general to the particular through reasoning), typical of philosophy and mathematics, while the direction from Si to Ni is about the inductive method (generalizing from the particular to universal laws), at the base of empiricism.
    The scientific method by the way is a synthesis of both deductive and inductive method, since it has mathematical models to satisfy and philosophical delimitations)

    Te-rrific Cognitive Personality Theory.
    my keyboard is wonky so allow me to add Jung 's description of Introverted Intuition to your content.
    (14:16 ) I am curious about what you find to be the difference in an ENTP's Feeling Function and my Feeling Function as an INTJ.
    the ENTP's seem to be so emotional sometimes.
    "Introverted intuition apprehends the images which arise from the a priori, i.e. the inherited foundations of the unconscious mind.
    These archetypes, whose innermost nature is inaccessible to experience, represent the precipitate of psychic functioning of the whole ancestral line, i.e. the heaped-up, or pooled, experiences of organic existence in general, a million times repeated, and condensed into types.
    Hence, in these archetypes all experiences are [p. 508] represented which since primeval time have happened on this planet.
    Their archetypal distinctness is the more marked, the more frequently and intensely they have been experienced.
    The archetype would be -- to borrow from Kant -- the noumenon of the image which intuition perceives and, in perceiving, creates.
    Since the unconscious is not just something that lies there, like a psychic caput mortuum, but is something that coexists and experiences inner transformations which are inherently related to general events, introverted intuition, through its perception of inner processes, gives certain data which may possess supreme importance for the comprehension of general occurrences:
    it can even foresee new possibilities in more or less clear outline, as well as the event which later actually transpires.
    Its prophetic prevision is to be explained from its relation to the archetypes which represent the law-determined course of all experienceable things."

    Ok, this video was awesome, thank you!
    The discussion of the “laser focus” being a product of the function and not the function itself broadened my empathy for all beings operating from Ni, Ti, or Si. I am Fi and feel proud of all the “work” I have put into self-awareness and emotional/psychological growth. I would rather be validated for the WORK I put in, or the process I have gone through, than be validated for simply “being” emotionally mature.
    This video helped me feel into how the other types feel attached to, and proud of the process of their respective functions.
    A side note: I said it in another video, but I heard it again here. You say that Ne doms believe in blanket statements or one-size-fits-all solutions. I disagree. Maybe it’s just me personally but it’s only about starting broadly, not believing it’s the “solution”.
    If I were with a group of friends and it was time to eat, I might say, “let’s go get food”. I would understand there’s a lot of honing in on details- personal preference, navigating opposing tastes, logistics, etc., until the group was at a restaurant, eating.

    I always thought Ni takes information gathered by Se and forms conclusions with that information. That's why they're always paired together. Same as how Ne forms conclusions about the external world based on info collected by Si in the form of experience. Intuition is just a pattern recognition mechanism that projects past patterns on to the future.
    The best example of this is the super hero Hindsight from South Park. He takes his super amazing ability of seeing past events, and tries to predict what could happen. His hindsight vision ability is an astounding 20/20.

    • @bscott465
      @bscott465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Captain Hindsight is a clear Si user. Si in general operates from a place of homeostasis; it works to bring things back into a state of equilibrium/concrete order. This is what makes them good at maintenance. Captain Hindsight has a extremely developed level of hindsight, meaning he doesn't actually have to be there to experience an event we only see him use his "power" after an event has occurred (and his power is always advisory) . Ni users form a conjecture of what will happen (or of the underlining on-goings of what is) based on observations they've made in real-time. Captain Hindsight doesn't do that at all. He's most likely an INTP.

    • @chridal
      @chridal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wait.. I think I'm finally starting to understand this. Fi: «What do I want», Ni: automatically renders possible solutions, these solutions are brought into Si which contains a collection of things that have happened before, these scenarios/solutions are piped into Te which examines the actual implementation and asks whether it is the «best» solution (given, for instance, efficiency is the parameter «best» is optimizing for). This will constantly happen in a loop where one examination in Te can trigger a new Ni solution, into Si again ad infinitum. Sorry if this is a bit messy.. :-) (INTJ or ENTJ here)
      Edit: No.. that's Ti instead of Te probably.. After writing this it is clear to me that I'm still missing a few pieces. Fun exercise, though. (I hate the thought of having written (extraverted) something incorrect here)

    I hoenstly like to think that the processes are kind of the same in any human, what makes the differnciation within type is more so on what process we focus the most.
    I mean as a general rule I'd say new information is always taken in (yes always), taken in by our five senses. I mean when I read a book I use my eyes, when I hear a noise I use my ears and so on and so fourth. So we eventually all start with se at some point, but the question is If the process is concious at that point or not. As an ne dom, my se is subconcious that means I'm usually unware of the sounds and smells and what not in my surroundings unless I pay direct attention. Se I think, takes in unfiltered information all at once, as a broad sensual scope. Si also starts via sensing, it is just focused on something (in a sensing sense). Also I'd like to describe it as the memory function in a way. It's like you take in the direct information se and it's filtered and stored in the mind and this when the concious process starts for an ne-si user. You aren't aware of every aspect (and change) of the surroundings because for an si user the process starts with an already filtered and simplified piece of information. And ne and ni are basicially just the process of connecting the information. I don't think they are in particualary that different as people make it look but it's more so one starts with the unfiltered information se (a broad sensing scope) and one starts with simplified filtered information si.
    As an ne dom my process could be described with an example:
    For example I saw a red blue flag on a beach, that caught my attention that my mind starts making associations:
    Could be an norwegian flag. Man norway isn't part of the Eu and is really, oh wait I've been to norway once, anyway, they sell oil, oil is pretty expansive, wonder how oil is doing at the stock market right now oh wait didn't the US bought oil somehow and stored it somewhere and this is why it's not that expansive anymore.
    This is why ne is good for brainstorming, I just came up with all this within 2 minutes without really implying any form of logic or any value. Just with what I could think of in the back of my memory. Why I could do that so fast is because I work with filtered information. This information can still be visual, for example I often think in like lineworks or graphs or like an abstract visual pattern. It can be anything really, but it's always in a simplified manner. This why I'm often completely unaware of changes in the environment.
    And yes when being outside (alone, cause when I'm with other people I ususally focus on them and the conversation and such) it's kind of the same, I for example see person and this person reminds of another person and this person reminds of something else, this something else can be anything. It can often stay in overarching topic or frame (for example when talking about an econimic crisis for example) and than my association that come up with are often anolgies to describe a concepts structure or logic. So do make two compare to conectps I try to get to it's essence via ti and then compare them. i see one structure, imply my own logic and compare it to differnet structure or system that uses the same kind of logic. But enough from my own cognitive process as entp tho it may help determing what type you are if you're are comapring yourself to my cognitive process. Also I could go on at lengh about the diffuculty of inferior si and demon se, If anyone wants that, just let me know. It may help you determining if you are an estp, esfp or an entp, enfp.
    I think a sensor just connects infromation less. They may percieve everything in a broad more unfiltered way like an se dom or in a more concetrated focused way like an si dom (or auxillary). But they take the infromation more at face value and do not assiciate it with other things. For example an si dom focuses on a beatiful flower, then on a nice tree and then on the person next to the tree and the reminders of something else just happen less and are more detailed as for a higher ne user. Using ne to change it's focus in a way (my mother is estj, I can only kind of guess how her process works).
    And I honestly can't imagine how the reality for an se-ni user looks like since I'm most of the time so unware of my sorrundings.

    • @taugamhorrsod8972
      @taugamhorrsod8972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or forgot to add. Why ne needs new information so often is because that same unwareness of constant se reality. Mos of it's processes is by stored information and basicially to the connction of it's stored infromation. But if there is enough infromation stored (si may be inferior) you have to look for new information and then you have to go out to the se environment. You can't braisntorm without having any stored infromation.

    Yeah, you got that wrong. Ni comes up with conclusions on its own. Also "the deepness" is entirely part of Ni. The "big picture" in Ni means that it doesn't apply those conclusions to individual situations (detail oriented) but creates a "principle" or a pattern to apply broadly onto all essentially identical situations. While Si is going to concentrate on the unique reasons for a situation and see it as an individual experience, Ni will see the parallels to similar situations or an underlying theme and draw its conclusions from there. While Si would see a string of just random, individual little conflicts between two people, Ni would see the underlying meta-conflict, the underlying reason why there is tension between two people.

    I was thinking as an intuition more like recognizing ideas and connections, relations. I mean do you HAVE TO employ sensing? With external intuition it’s like that: you see many little clues At ONCE that tell you the person is tense - you dont have to really focus on each of them; your senses altogether tell you there is a danger coming from behind- you dont focus on specific clues, no need to, you jump straight to conclusions. You see a picture and you have this general impression of peace; or of love between people portraited - why sensing? I like the idea of broad and narrow lens, but I quite dont get why not just use the broad one 🧐 you CAN but why would you? I mean I more understand extraverted intuition but introverted should be similar - seeing many things together forming a broad picture - why focus?

      Hmm well if one were to picture a sliding scale, with Ni on one end, and Si on the other, the two far extremes of the scale will very very rarely see the light of consciousness.
      One can absolutely stay on the far side towards Ni and do very little Si-dipping, but information would be extremely vague as a result. Interestingly, the ultra-Ni that you may be referring to often occupies an unconscious space *beneath* Ne, which is why Ne users will often rely more on general impressions and open-ended dialogue :)

      Well okay So maybe the „pure” funstion cannot exist at all. Wouldn’t „pure sensing” be seeing the object just without any connections or broader image, while intuiting seeing just broad abstract image of blur, with no specific objects? When we look at a landscape we see it as a „city” not just a set of separate buildings with some atributes. Ne user will focus on the general aspects - what this city look like, what’s the mood who might live there? But he sees the houses and buildings just doesnt so much focus on them. And Se user will maybe see there is a townhall with funny clock on it, and more skyscrappers than small houses and the houses are grey, but still he is aware of the broad aspect too. When we see a ball we don’t just see round shape with colours which I presume would be „clear” Se, but we see a volleyball, that can be used in soecific ways we are aware of, and this ball belongs to someone we maybe know, maybe to our kids and it lies in the garden where the dog might bite it .... and lots of broader image mixed in the view.Still I have no idea how to transfer it inwards to create an analogy for Si and Ni.
