2024 is the year I finally made a complete switch to Linux on a PC for desktop use. No more testing and playing with it in VMs or dual boots. It has the complete run of a machine. And it's working great.
@@balsalmalberto8086 That's partly why I did it this year instead of waiting for Windows 10 EOS - so if any friends or family needed assistance, I'd be much more ready to assist.
I changed to Linux this year. Never looking back (Came from windows 10/11). I use my PC to game and so far can play all the games in my Steam/EA/Epic/GOG libraries, also can emulate everything under the sun. The switch was seamless and overdue.
And for almost anything that doesn't run, there's cloud gaming. (Almost. Moddable games you want to play with mods that aren't on Steam Workshop are the exception.)
Thanks Michael for all you do. I feel like your channel is criminally unsersubbed. Thanks for the great Stream this last Friday, had lots of fun. Glad to see the second part I missed turned out well. Have a great new year my dude!
@@LightningSnake 2025 will give us a perfect storm for desktop Linux adoption, and we'll see a significant influx of new users, but also I think most will just get new PCs with Windows 11 or new Macs, or continue running an unsecure Windows 10.
I've used Linux for years however I do use a browser, Librewolf, that reports itself as Windows 10. So if your data is browser based, there could be many more Linux systems than reported.
This was the year of NVIDIA and Wayland on Linux. Also if you include "Unknown" as Linux and FreeBSD which at least in part many do, then Linux/FreeBSD market share is much higher.
Alot of windows people will be moving to Linux this year, me included. Tired of the invasive windows experience and my perfectly fine computer can't upgrade
Having physical access to your computer is the biggest threat to security, isn't it ? I find it kind of weird how people tend to exaggerate these threats.

RIP my 100% still working 980 Ti I understand, we have to move forward, but almost all the games I play run fine on it. If I switched to a distro that supports older Nvidia drivers, I'd lose all the gaming-specific optimizations in Nobara. Cloud gaming won't work for all the moddable games I play. Can't win, except by buying a relatively new GPU. Fortunately, the 50 series is upcoming, and that'll push the prices of the 30s and 40s down a little.
its far too early for valve to do that, though maybe they can start with games which work in linux but have broken anticheat which prevents linux usage?
there is nothing to support except of whitelisting anti cheat. but since one is from Epic Games and actively sabotages the steamdeck with it, the other is microsoft sponsored... we need a platform agnostic open source anti cheat engine or it will never change.
May Linux Gods keep the Linux ecosystem from growing into the Binbows hell! may all MS devils prevent the human race from discovering the beauty of Linux.

Same. I plan on switching some long term Bindows user family over.

Can't wait for This decade in linux.
I started this show 8 years ago so it’s actually doable fairly soon in that sense lol 😆
This video lifted my spirits. Happy New Year everyone.
A great year for Linux indeed. Thanks for the recap!

This Year was The Year of Linux.
As will the next be
very true, I do hope that it will keep getting better and better
No, it will be next year when people have to decide what to do with their computers after Microsoft drops Windows 10 support

Good stuff, Thanks Mr Tunnell.
Great job this year Twilly Wonka. Thank you for your service.
A CNA is not a "certificate authority" (CA) - it's a CVE Numbering Authority.

One of the biggest software milestones, the Sagrada família of FOSS projects - GIMP 3.
GIMP 3 was not included in this video because it’s still not released yet. They did release candidates but we haven’t had a full release just yet
I wonder how many XZ style back doors have gone unnoticed. (Not just in Linux but other OSes too)
