ascap/bmi are performance royalties organisations , songtrust is a publishing administrator , of course you have to register to a pro (ascap or bmi etc... depends what country you live in) , so they collect the performance royalties , BUT there is other royalties they DONT collect this royalty called "MECHANICALS" (streaming , micro sync youtube etc....) thats why you need a publishing admin to collect all these royalties and songtrust have tools to do this work , its a complicated and long work to collect all these mechnicals from all over the world so when you sign with songtrust they they take a percentage i think its 15% on what they collect and pay you the rest, BUT you keep 100% of your publishing and this is the most important thing , you are not signin your life to a label or a pub deal
with any of these collection societies, you'd only want to register finished songs over your beats... unless you're releasing instrumental albums and songs like lofi

songtrust is different from BMI or ASCAP. ideally, you need both, but most ppl think u just need BMI or ASCAP.
