Choose The RIGHT Consumable! ⚔️New World

  • There are a variety of consumables currently used in New World. Many people prefer using Infused Fire Absorption Potions, but some opt for Powerful Oakflesh Balm or Powerful Gemstone Dust, which other think are too weak since the Fortify changes. For some armor weights, certain choices are definitely better than others, so we're going to compare them.

Absorption potions duration, with lasting consumption on all bags is flat 40sec, with 90 sec cooldown (refreshing toast needed) flat. so around 50% uptime. Gemstone dust/Oakflesh gets used up really fast by taking dmg 15 times (attunement, chain, (runeglass)-dots and aoes included). in war gemstonedust gets used up in clumps in like 3-5 seconds, due to all that chipdamage. Playing a disruptive healerhunter and getting shot at pretty much only by firestaffs, of course i will be using absorption potions all the time.

Yeah Duke forgot to talk about uptime altogether which is a huge factor considering how different they are. I would say oak/gem is better overall for avoiding getting burst down when focused by multiple ppl (which happens mostly to light armor so it fits with the conclusions in the video).

Actually last 45sec with 3 bags, and u have 40sec cd after you fire potion ends, to use another one :)

It's important to verify information before making claims like that. I just watched 2 full bruiser vods from this week, with both using Gemstone and tracked the duration of Gemstone. The scenario you're describing of Gemstone getting used in 3-5 seconds didn't happen a SINGLE time throughout both vods and these are bruisers who are deep in clumps. It is very likely that many of the effects you assume count as sources of damage for Gemstone simply don't and instead it just factors in primary hits. Or you may be thinking that since the buff bar prioritizes debuffs, the Gemstone buff is no longer active when it's not visible. This is not the case. Often, after the bruisers got out of clumps and their debuffs got removed, the Gemstone buff would appear on the bar again. In fact, I only found a single instance of Gemstone actually expiring on the bar before its duration and that was after 18 seconds instead of 20, which honestly may have just been lag anyways.
On top of that, defensive consumables are usually not used to sit in a clump forever. They're usually either used to engage into a clump or survive incoming burst. After that when your kit is used, the usual plan of action is to get out of the clump, not to make it a challenge to find out how long your consumable can last. The main sources of damage hitting while in a clump are also absolutely not fire dmg.
Playing healer hunter who isn't in clumps, your concerns of Gemstone/Oakflesh expiring before their full duration due to hits are virtually zero. I can't speak for your wars since war meta on every server is different, but most servers I'm aware of use more than just FS to counter healer hunters: Bows (now often using ele gem to counter falloff), IG (especially Pylon) and sometimes VG are all relevant sources of damage. And so is any melee with ele gems that may turn on you. If your only goal is to maximize uptime, constantly chug pots and reduce chip damage for longer, then sure, by all means, go for Fire Absorption. I can't imagine many scenarios where you're getting pelted by FS for 40s nonstop and haven't either found cover, killed the FS user or died. If you want to survive burst in situations when it matters, Gemstone will likely benefit you a lot more in medium or heavy.
If you're running light, I don't know why you're bringing this up in the first place. I specifically mentioned MAYBE using Oakflesh in light as a secondary consumable in arena IF you're running Shadewalker/phys weighted. I never suggested running Gemstone in light.
