I just saw it now. It’s great to see. I was lucky to meet Tom at a meet and greet at a Sound Warehouse store in Plano Texas in the early 90’s. My late older brother was lucky enough to get his favorite Members Only jacket signed by him and some of the members of the band Testament
Here is a formal English translation of the maxim inspired by Stoic principles, based on the song lyrics you provided: "In the somber theater of war, where blood and tragedy blend into a dismal tableau, it behooves us to ponder the transience and futility of conquests and defeats. Like a shadow stretching over humanity, each conflict reveals not our greatness, but our fragility. Thus, in reflection and contemplation, let us seek a profound understanding of our own nature, recognizing that true victory lies in self-mastery, not in the domination of others. For in every heart lies a battlefield, and it is there that the most important struggle is waged: against our own passions and illusions, in pursuit of the true peace that transcends the vicissitudes of this world."
I've ALWAYS loved how Tom stands there chanting lyrics all nice and calm. Out of the big 4 Slayer rocks the hardest, the fact that Tom's neck is all screwed up from years of head banging, alin3 proves that you don't hear any of the other 3 bands saying they can't headbang anymore ,ALL HAIL THE GREAT SLAYER!
I used to party with these guys before they got any gigs… cool dudes .. they worked hard to become who they are and deserve the appreciation that they get..
I saw them only 1 X, & it was w/all original members in 2010, & I will never forget it! They played 'Seasons' in its entirety as it was the 20th anniversary of that masterpiece of an album! I am sorry you never got to see them live, but, they have released many Live DVD's & BR's though! It's not the same as actually being there, but, at least you can enjoy what they sound like live to some degree! It is a shame the Live concert they filmed of "Decade Of Aggression" was never actually released, although they claimed back in '91 that it would be! Sucks when bands mislead their fans!
I was at this show. Clash of the Titans, Wembley Arena 1990. The filmmakers wanted it to be a one-to-one mime with the album track, but Tom wasn’t having any of it! Neither were the crowd, who stated booing, so they played it live anyway (twice if I remember) and let the filmmakers piece it all together later!
I was a huge Dead Kennedy’s fan back in the early eighties even though I was a young teenager. I loved Slayer from the first time I heard them. I was at this gig. The feeling amongst the fans waiting to get in was one of extreme camaraderie. We were all waving Slayer banners and sharing what our favourite tracks were. There were two American chicks there that had followed them to England for their gigs here. It’s very hard to find words to describe what the gig was like. It was an assault on the senses. It was so loud and brutal. I’d taken speed before going in, so I was full of energy and it all sounded so good. I remember my ears ringing all the way back down to Portsmouth on the train. The dawn came and I had sore legs and a sore neck, but I was still buzzing from the gig. I sneaked in a dictaphone to make a bootleg tape of the gig. The sound quality was terrible but people still bought it.

My fav Slayer track is Spill the Blood. I love the fast stuff but they have so much of it, all kinda blends together. The heavier, slower, creepier songs stand out. Opposite case with Black Sabbath where gems like Paranoid and Children of the Grave are shining between gloom and doom.
I remember playing this song in Highschool, and trying it out for our airjams, the teachers immediately rejected it, they said it had too much kill in it! My buddy at the time, that was pretending to be the guitar player Jeff Hanneman, was headbanging so hard, he couldn't make it into school, the next day, he said his neck felt like a spaghetti noodle when he rolled out of bed! Lol!
To be fair "Slayer" means "stab your loyal drummer in the back, take his money and fire him" in Swahili. Dave should have looked it up before giving them his best years
I would say Dave got even better after leaving Slayer. His drumming on all the Grip Inc albums were top notch and his drumming on The Gathering (Testament) was also mind blowing.
Saw em live for the first time in 1994, and left with a bloody nose. Saw em again in 2018, and left with even less hearing. Both concerts were fucking amazing.
Slayer was first metal cassette more than twenty years ago.Slayer is my home.I go out and turn back home for years.Whatever they say Slayer is number one.
This song reminds me of my state history class, my teacher was a coach and a pretty big fan of Slayer. There was one time he let me put this song on in class because some girl wanted to know what the hell we'd be talking about. That was a damn good class.

South of heaven is the best
I went to this concert tour for Seasons in the Abyss in California in 1990. It was easily the loudest concert I ever went to and couldn't hear for 3 days, just hissing and ringing. Best concert ever.
I saw them in NY and it was loud as hell just like you are saying. I remember my ears crackling when I was there. I was only 15 and it still is easily one of the best days of my life.
Man I love Slayer.
The last time I saw this was in the early 1990s, just watch it for the 1st time here in YT. Brought tears to my eyes!
Slayers sounds soo much better when you can actually hear bass
so Always?
@@dooterscoots2901 Their tone's bass-scooped, I think he means
Yeah, but that was in the first albums or so. Later you couldn't hear shit. I also believe Araya's playing was kinda sloppy. So...
hmmmm, you know you got a point, this version sucks. needs bass.
@@djohanson99 I agree. We need a bass enhanced version
They barely show Lombardo, what a shame. He is annihilating the drums.
That guy is not human….
I was thinking the same thing and now we see some of the issues we missed way back when and why he's no longer with them. Seems they treated him like shit for a while
He's the best musician in the band.
He's the best drummer of The Big 4! Hands down by a landslide
It's ok. We know it's Dave playing. Best record ever.
Pure Metal 🤘I've been listening to this song since 1990 and still love it like the first day. Slayer Forever.

Thrash metal in a nutshell
Absolutely one of my fav Slayer tunes. Something so pure about it, and energizing. When this came out when me an my buds were teenagers we completely lost our shit. Amazing album.
I don’t usually comments on metal videos because I am a huge metal fan and all that and stuff, but my god do you listen to those riffs? Those riffs are just afuckingmazing!!!!!
will be a fan of this band till I die! 🤝🤟🏻
Still blown away by daves drumming on this track 🤌 after all these years,my first slayer album purchase in cassette form
You might think the singer Tom would be an intimidating person, but if you have met him you know he is actually the coolest dude!
Have you seen the video of Corpsegrinder shopping at Target? All these metal guys are chill dudes, lol.
I just saw it now. It’s great to see. I was lucky to meet Tom at a meet and greet at a Sound Warehouse store in Plano Texas in the early 90’s. My late older brother was lucky enough to get his favorite Members Only jacket signed by him and some of the members of the band Testament
Right every interview and video I've seen of him he is always smiling and laughing, seems like a genuinely happy person.
Regardless of his religion, John Travolta is an amazing singer.
CelticTerrorizer And Samuel L. Jackson is an amazing guitarist.
Canadian Metalhead Indeed. Especially on "Divine Intervention".
Le Communard don't forget Uma Thurman on drums
Lmao..😂
Tom Arya and John Travolta; look alikes? Nah
One song, one video, completely sold me on one band. Never looked back.
Slayer is the most listened band for USAF pilots. The early Slayer that is.
Is there statistics for that? lol

Here is a formal English translation of the maxim inspired by Stoic principles, based on the song lyrics you provided:
"In the somber theater of war, where blood and tragedy blend into a dismal tableau, it behooves us to ponder the transience and futility of conquests and defeats.
This is of course a musical masterpiece, but also the lyrics seem everyday more relevant.
woah slow down buster we ain’t even got to the civil war yet.
@@Salomon_G Thanks dude.
Dave's drum sound on the 'Seasons in the Abyss' and 'South of Heaven' albums is at its best! No other Slayer albums come close drum-wise!!
I dunno, man. Reign in Blood, now THAT'S a drummer's album! 🤘🤘
@@JamesinAZ, was just referring to the drum sound quality! Reign In Blood has a much more raw sound than South and Seasons. 👍

One of greatest metal bands
Slayer, la mejor banda del Thrash, auténticos y respetando siempre la verdadera esencia que siempre han tenido
Yeah, i use to think Slayer rocked the hardest, but Metallica takes it to the next level!! Both bands are great!!
@@greatriffishere Metallica have extreme ups and downs, Slayer are always consistent but a bit samey. Both are legends.
Seen them in the 90"s & still listen to slayer in my 50's
I’m with ya. I’m 52 and still love them. South of Heaven came out when I was in High School.
Favorite Slayer album.
Seasons In The Abyss is one of the best metal albums of all time. If you don't have it, you should get it now!

Im a pre-teen who loves metal, thrash in special, and i got to say that Slayer is a masterpiece, its sad that im never seeing them live

Crappy pop music videos have 10 times that. :/
Slayer is a timeless band
I was at this show. Clash of the Titans, Wembley Arena 1990. The filmmakers wanted it to be a one-to-one mime with the album track, but Tom wasn’t having any of it! Neither were the crowd, who stated booing, so they played it live anyway (twice if I remember) and let the filmmakers piece it all together later!
slayer, one of the grandfathers of Thrash metal I wish they didn't retire

I've seen Slayer live twice. Moshed in the pit to them both times. Just a completely surreal and awesome experience.
Timeless piece...
Every time i hear this song it's like I'm back to age of 20 , although I'm 47 now.
Me too my friend. 50, and still crank this going to work.
Lol!
We played this is high school but we got away with it. Lol
poetry
To be fair "Slayer" means "stab your loyal drummer in the back, take his money and fire him" in Swahili. Dave should have looked it up before giving them his best years
I would say Dave got even better after leaving Slayer. His drumming on all the Grip Inc albums were top notch and his drumming on The Gathering (Testament) was also mind blowing.
"BE dead fiend from above..."
Damn those lyrics kill.
This is one of the hardest heavy metal songs to play.
Currently learning this masterpiece for a tribute to be played in a couple of days. Playing and singing....this is nuts!
