My first concert ever in Toronto 1999 was Slayer. Didn't know much about them. Left the place ears ringing, my jaws dropped for 2 hours. And the crowd was so much fun ñ, metal but friendly. I was the only with buzz cut.
I've been listening to Slayer since 1985, when I bought "Hell Awaits" on vinyl. I was 13 then, and 30 years later, metal is still my first love, & Slayer remains the one band that I can never tire of listening to. They are way better of a band than Metallica, who seem to get "best metal band ever" mentioned entirely too often in the same sentence, but in reality, Slayer is much more representative of the genre, & have released not one, not two, not three, but four classic albums in their career. What's even more amazing is they were released consecutively: Hell Awaits, Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven, & Seasons In The Abyss. Most bands can't muster one or two records of material that will go down as a benchmark in their genre, but this band has, undoubtedly.

Absolutely one of my fav Slayer tunes. Something so pure about it, and energizing. When this came out when me an my buds were teenagers we completely lost our shit. Amazing album.
I just saw it now. It’s great to see. I was lucky to meet Tom at a meet and greet at a Sound Warehouse store in Plano Texas in the early 90’s. My late older brother was lucky enough to get his favorite Members Only jacket signed by him and some of the members of the band Testament
I went to this concert tour for Seasons in the Abyss in California in 1990. It was easily the loudest concert I ever went to and couldn't hear for 3 days, just hissing and ringing. Best concert ever.
I saw them in NY and it was loud as hell just like you are saying. I remember my ears crackling when I was there. I was only 15 and it still is easily one of the best days of my life.
Decade of Aggression was one of my favourite albums in high school. I discovered Slayer after hearing them on the Fall Line Flim's Critical Condition snowboarding vid from '91. My fondest memory of Slayer would have to be the time I got suckered into going to a four-day Christian retreat (not relegious) and on the 12 hour bus ride, listening to Seasons and Reign the whole way. When a goodie Christian kid asked me what I was listening to, I showed him the tape cover and he blessed himself before squealing on me to the elders lol. Despite their disapproval, I kept listening by myself. Best F'n choice I made that whole summer.
In my english class, my teacher put on pandora radio and asked each student what to put on. When it was my turn, i said slayer. She put it on and this song came on. Everyone wanted it off and a few girls were scared of this music and everybody told me i need Jesus. I do go to church and a catholic but they said i need help. I think they need help.
+CARSON FRYOU Hey carson. I am a 45 year old catholic who was a kid like yourself when this album came out and had a similar thing happen to me in school. I still am a huge metal fan to this day. Keep on being yourself man no matter what all the "proper" people say.
+CARSON FRYOU Same happened to me in high school years. Those were the times a few satanists killed cats and all nationwide media questioned the relation to music with many tv programmes... I remember heavy metal fans were hosted and surprisingly they were not stoned like they were devils and the case closed peacefully. However my friends who doubted about me now listens to heavy metal and rock.
I've ALWAYS loved how Tom stands there chanting lyrics all nice and calm. Out of the big 4 Slayer rocks the hardest, the fact that Tom's neck is all screwed up from years of head banging, alin3 proves that you don't hear any of the other 3 bands saying they can't headbang anymore ,ALL HAIL THE GREAT SLAYER!
I was at this show. Clash of the Titans, Wembley Arena 1990. The filmmakers wanted it to be a one-to-one mime with the album track, but Tom wasn’t having any of it. Neither were the crowd…so they played it live anyway (twice if I remember) and let the filmmakers piece it all together later!
I used to party with these guys before they got any gigs… cool dudes .. they worked hard to become who they are and deserve the appreciation that they get..
I was a huge Dead Kennedy’s fan back in the early eighties even though I was a young teenager. I loved Slayer from the first time I heard them. I was at this gig. The feeling amongst the fans waiting to get in was one of extreme camaraderie. We were all waving Slayer banners and sharing what our favourite tracks were. There were two American chicks there that had followed them to England for their gigs here. It’s very hard to find words to describe what the gig was like. It was an assault on the senses. It was so loud and brutal. I’d taken speed before going in, so I was full of energy and it all sounded so good. I remember my ears ringing all the way back down to Portsmouth on the train. The dawn came and I had sore legs and a sore neck, but I was still buzzing from the gig. I sneaked in a dictaphone to make a bootleg tape of the gig. The sound quality was terrible but people still bought it.
I graduated high school in 2010 and I was a full on thrasher. Long hair, skin tight jeans, big white adidas hahaha. Later that year I had the opportunity to go to the Slayer/ megadeth / anthrax tour and couldn't have been more ecstatic. Slayer was playing the whole seasons album and tbh I wasn't too thrilled as I was more into reign and south of heaven. Regardless it was a killer show and it was awesome to see Jeff and Dave. Over the years I've come to absolutely love this album. I may not have appreciated it as much, then but I'm grateful I got the opportunity.

Slayer REALLY needs to put out an ''Anthology Album'' for us, True SLAYER fans that need to hear everything from Crionics, Die by the Sword, at Dawn they sleep, and Hell awaits to Chemical Warfare to South of Heaven, Spill the Blood and WAR ENSEMBLE !!!!
My fav Slayer track is Spill the Blood. I love the fast stuff but they have so much of it, all kinda blends together. The heavier, slower, creepier songs stand out. Opposite case with Black Sabbath where gems like Paranoid and Children of the Grave are shining between gloom and doom.
Saw em live for the first time in 1994, and left with a bloody nose. Saw em again in 2018, and left with even less hearing. Both concerts were fucking amazing.
A Brilliant song. Brilliant video. Brilliant song title. And all these three things go perfectly together. The clip is made in black and white, which gives it a darker and militaristic atmosphere (my first associations with black and white films are a WWII and pre-war chronicle of the XX century). This video does not need excerpts of military newsreels from the Second World War, because the video itself is an anti-war protest of the band members. The musical component of the War Ensemble is no less impressive. The reef, reminiscent of a military march during the verse, best conveys the atmosphere of the song itself. At the same time, the song remains quite formidable and aggressive. The murderous solo, that begins after the protracted cry of «War», will not allow you to forget why the song is called the ”War Ensemble”. The lyrics also deserve special attention. No primitive lines, just poetry in the style of Slayer. “Sport the war” is an amazing comparison that is firmly hammered into memory. Every line in the song is imbued with horror. The War Ensemble is a masterpiece, that will never lose its relevance as long as the Holy Wars take place…
I saw them only 1 X, & it was w/all original members in 2010, & I will never forget it! They played 'Seasons' in its entirety as it was the 20th anniversary of that masterpiece of an album! I am sorry you never got to see them live, but, they have released many Live DVD's & BR's though! It's not the same as actually being there, but, at least you can enjoy what they sound like live to some degree! It is a shame the Live concert they filmed of "Decade Of Aggression" was never actually released, although they claimed back in '91 that it would be! Sucks when bands mislead their fans!

Man I love Slayer.
Slayers sounds soo much better when you can actually hear bass
so Always?
@@dooterscoots2901 Their tone's bass-scooped, I think he means
Yeah, but that was in the first albums or so. Later you couldn't hear shit. I also believe Araya's playing was kinda sloppy. So...
hmmmm, you know you got a point, this version sucks. needs bass.
@@djohanson99 I agree. We need a bass enhanced version

I'm an atheist, and I love Slayer and you.
+Quentin Honican Thank you sir.
+mete kavruk Thank you for seeing my POV sir.
+CARSON FRYOU Bassist/vocalist Tom Araya is Catholic.
Yeah, i use to think Slayer rocked the hardest, but Metallica takes it to the next level!! Both bands are great!!
@@greatriffishere Metallica have extreme ups and downs, Slayer are always consistent but a bit samey. Both are legends.
Fucking still and will... Always be one of the most crushing metal songs!
Still blown away by daves drumming on this track 🤌 after all these years,my first slayer album purchase in cassette form

Thrash metal in a nutshell
This song is 28 years old and still better than any of the garbage that’s out now

Timeless piece...
Every time i hear this song it's like I'm back to age of 20 , although I'm 47 now.
I have been a metal fan for the past 30 years and I am very proud of it
I graduated high school in 2010 and I was a full on thrasher.
One of their best songs. Right up there with "Angel of Death", "South of Heaven", "Raining Blood", etc.
I prefer Hell awaits and Seasons in the abyss

My fav Slayer track is Spill the Blood. I love the fast stuff but they have so much of it, all kinda blends together. The heavier, slower, creepier songs stand out. Opposite case with Black Sabbath where gems like Paranoid and Children of the Grave are shining between gloom and doom.
I've seen Slayer live twice. Moshed in the pit to them both times. Just a completely surreal and awesome experience.
Saw em live for the first time in 1994, and left with a bloody nose.
Saw em again in 2018, and left with even less hearing.

Im a pre-teen who loves metal, thrash in special, and i got to say that Slayer is a masterpiece, its sad that im never seeing them live
